I was curious if anyone here has any interest in a Hunt WA chili or BBQ cook off? Sounds like a killer way to have a meet & greet, and get our fat kid on  Ok here is my idea, its only an idea but checking interest.
-- we could do one category, or, 2, such as chili, or BBQ/smoke, and you could enter one or both
-- all cooks / entries buy their own grub,
-- Cooking / entry would not be required, open to all members to come hang out, but if you aint cooking you aint eating
-- each cook should bring enough grub for judges & all other cooks to sample
And it should of course be on a football day somewhere with cable access, so we have something to do in between layers of sauce smothering and staying warm
so, input? interest?
-
Sounds like fun! I would consider pending where and when??
-
for you it might be a drive :chuckle:
I don't mind driving for good food  ;)
-
Or maybe somewhere in the middle for everybody to drive equally? These look worth it to me.....
-

No sauce on these just rub and a lot of love........
Or country style ribs with my wifes potato salad......
-
Oh dear!
My wife accuses me of having an affair everytime I BBQ country style boneless ribs.
I just don't have the heart to tell her she is right, lol
-
Here's some more for you. the 1st is the 3 different phases of my country style ribs.   and then there's the bacon wrapped marinated chicken breasts.....   and then some good ole spare ribs....
-
    Now i'm hungry thanks Plat....... Like I said I'm in if we meet in the middle.
-

-
my mouth is seriously watering after looking at those pics. no, seriously watering
-
I like it...I am not a very good cook but I wouldn't mind judging it.
-
If you think I'm done then dang, you got another thing coming....the 1st is my sweet & spicy with a little kick spare ribs, marinated for 4 days, 2nd is marinated country style with a honey mustard sauce layer and a rub with a kick, 3rd is marinated country style with a sweet tasty sauce that would melt in your mouth....
You guys had enough???? I want to go home now and fire up the smoker.... :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
Good idea but its winter.and lots of distance. But here is an Idea.
Online cookoff. If you can tantelize tastebuds just by pics we should be able to come up with a winner. All these pics look great Butt (pun intended) hands down that Butt takes the cake!
We see a beautiful bark, a deep smoke ring, and what looks to be a very juicy, tender piece of meat!
Plat, your un basted rib looks great! But the ring appears to be one sided and not deep.
It doest compare in a pic but Im sure it does in real life.
Just a thought.
The otter pops win! Lol
-
you should come to the catfish rendevous this june and have your cookoff, it would make that a double treat. Would love to do my chili and my bbq.
Dale
-
This could be fun, depending on location I may be in.

-
Id be down. Im a BBQ freak!!!
-
It should be somewhere in the middle, like here in Vancouver!
-
the mouth of the palouse river at lyons ferry has to be in the middle of something, lol. That is where the catfish rendevous is held. Rasbo says the second weekend of june. Sounds like a great time. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
Oh my gosh, the smell of great food is coming right through my computer....

If we could coordinate that with the beginning of the school year at WSU, I'd be all for it. That 13 hour round trip last week was a literal pain in the butt.
-
  You guys are such a tease!!
-
:yeah: You guys are jerks    And to add a rule...it can only be wild game which would put Kcacker out of the competition :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :peep: :sry: :chuckle:

How about backstrap and a beverage..maybe my boss will let me use my work truck to drive to the get together :chuckle:

:chuckle: i think i may have to sample that tonight
-
all right, I guess I will make time to judge for my Hunt-WA friends.
:EAT: :EAT: :EAT: :EAT: :EAT: :EAT: :EAT:
-
Being a good judge of BBQ our Y.A.R Medicine Man Plateau has the upper hand. Everything he posted looks top notch in my opinion and that after cooking for a big bunch of DU folks last week. I would like to see a Hunt WA cook-off and maybe bring in Bobby Flay as the official judge.
:twocents: :chuckle:
-
I wanna be a judge - just sayin
-
hes too yuppie, sorry i dont eat grilled crickets & bean sprouts for $150 a plate :chuckle:
:yike: :yike: :yike: How dare you?!?!? I serve only the finest to the yacht club, my plates are $300 a plate, get it right! :chuckle:

In case you haven't noticed i've been "showing off my meat" since yesterday! :chuckle: :chuckle:

The cook out should be wildgame meat? Heres some bbq elk steak. If you really want me to show off my meat? :chuckle:

If there were Southern judges I would be in......you guys cant even fry your catfish the right way and yall think a BBQ is a cooking device (grill) or an activity (cook out) when it is really just a food. Crazy folks out here! :yike:

I have to agree a little.....I haven't smoked catfish so I'm not going there and I grill-it-up as much as possible for the family cookouts. You can't miss me, I'm the guy outside all by himself sitting in his chair with 2 maybe 3 grills going sitting in the sun, sometimes shade, and chugging water because i'm sweating to death surrounded by all the heat. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: Now that I got my new grill with a ton of cooking space and the other grills for misc. items I might have to start buying a trailer to haul all my stuff around, mobile cooking kitchen. Maybe I should just upgrade and buy a replica of Myron Mixons mobile BBQ trailer. :chuckle:
I don't do competition style grilling but I want a big mobile BBQ trailer.....

There is nothing better than being kicked back outside surrounded by cooking devices with thermometers everywhere, water glasses and a few beers, random plastic tables with plates on them and people waiting inside for the cooking to be done. Woman asking when it will be done and the response, when the temp is right, "Well, how long will that be?" "When it gets 13 degrees hotter" blah blah blah. ahh you poor poor man, its truly sad that you have no idea :bash:
I do have an idea. One thing I do is try everything, no matter what. Beer battered catfish or any sort of liquid battered fish/meat is not the way to go. -
you get used ot it, im always sitting by the grill, but now my new dog sits with me, he waits for a scrap to fall :chuckle:
Ohhh I'm used to it alright. There is not a better place in the yard/house during a "BBQ".
You girls let me know when you're in the Tri-Cities and we will sit around the grills, smokers and deep fryer with a fire in the fire pit going.

that's what it sounds like when i'm grilling. :dunno: women walking around watching me swinging my meat around waiting for it to be ready, dripping with sweat, sounds like another summer day when I'm working the grill, except without the beer. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Not trying to leave anybody out at all? I do believe that one who has mastered the art of bbq wildgame meat is one i can learn from! Beef and such isnt really all that complicated of a protein to bbq. Hope that stirs the pot a little! :chuckle: :sry:

A honest and serious question, as I have yet to figure out the cooking lingo out here.
What exactly do you mean by "bbq wildgame".
Smoked meat? Grilled meat on a grill? cooked however with Bar-B-Que sauce on it? I honestly have no idea what to think and am curious to what the first thing that comes to mind in a Washingtonian's (is that what you guys call yourselves?) mind when they see this term.
-
I call it grillin' but it's really smokin'. Low and Slow............none of this gas crap, just good ole fashion stick and on occasion some charcoal.
-
So in HuntinCouples comment "the art of BBQ wildgame"...BBQ = Grilling which is cooking with a smoker over wood and some charcoal?
-
Being the true native washintonian i is! My interpretation of bbq wildgame is wild free ranging meat to include alligators to the squatch and everything inbetween , cooked over fire of any sort to melt in the palate of the mouth???? :chuckle:
-
MMMMM Good..........

Well the one I posted was made by me for a buddy. We do at least one pig roast year, we even did one a few years ago for the Rainier Retriever Hunt Club after the Field Trial Test. Happy Gilmore was there

Mine is not that fancy! I love that cooker by the way  Mine is a old 6ft Charcol BBQ that I added a commercial rotisserie. Fired up the charcol and piggy on top for 8-10hrs
-
I also made a grill top for it. After the pig is done, we add the grill and BBQ any other item we want.
Don't have pic, but I have done 16 chicken halves at one time.
Also did a small pig Ribka, but after the pig was off, I did some crab on it :EAT:

KC
The grill is 16' long and weighs in at 2600 lbs. Tows like a dream, cooks like a dream and is a blast to show up to parties with.
I bought from Ben Lang in Georga. Its the Lang 84 super delux longneck. Its all wood fired and does a great job.
I can do about 300 lbs of meat on it at one time.
here is a link.

Sounds good to me! I have lost 28lbs and i could sacrifice 5-10 lbs back to all that bbq! :chuckle:
-
All lined up to cook for about 60 firefighters and their families a couple of days ago
-
Anyone got a great recipe for prime rib on a traeger for Christmas?
-
Sounds like a good time. I would think waiting till warm weather for the cook off. I have a perfect place out in Enumclaw. Lots of room for parking, cooking and my barn has a full kitchen and bath. full size bar, 5 tv's, sauna, poker tables, full size crap table, pinball, two dart boards...you get the idea!
Hawgdawg, aka..
.Second hand smoke, Seducing smoke and head dishwasher on the cast and blast cooking team!
-
Enumclaw and a barn, ahh that is scarry right there! If you know what i mean. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Sounds like a great place to me
-
Pretty sure I've stumbled into one of your parties before Hawgdawg. I can't be sure because it was dark and there was a lot more stuff set up. There was massive amounts of food and beer. Thats about all I remember... but those pictures bring back a few of the memories!

Labor day. I cook a whole Hog....few hundred people. Was there big Safeway awnings up? Been known to throw a few shin digs.

Matter of fact I think it was Labor Day because I was there bear hunting and got a bear on Labor Day. And there were some sort of big awnings. Pretty cool place you had!

OK..
Thats the place. Let me know if you need me to hook onto my cooker and drag it down there.

Looks good, when is it going to happen? what Haven't seen is a killer brisket put up. You are a true master if you can put up one of those that is properly barked, ringed, tender and flavor full. I will post pics soon BTY bark does not equal a burnt sugar filled sauce which I'm seeing a good bit of :yike:

Spring, early summer it is still in the planning stages. Maybe a monerator can post this so it will still be here in a few months. I have offered my place and just think nicer weather would be better for cooking and pick nick ing!
