I thought I was filming a big ole fat Muskrat, but now I wonder if it was a Nutria. I know they are in the area. I guess I can post the pics and some of you guys can tell me. THey are living in an old abandoned beaver lodge. Are they similiar?

If it is over 5 or 6 lbs it is a nute round tail flat nose big whiskers are nute
rat has a oval tail pointed nose
-
I was under the impression it was the biggest dang muskrat I have ever seen. I got some shots and even video of the thing so I will get those up for you. Seems like big round tail though. Seems like it swam up out of the water a bit more than a rat too.
-
I've got muskrats up to 9 lbs. With that your average muskrat is only 2-3 lds. Nutria are usually over 15 lbs.
-
Though I am a little better at identifying housecats versus bobcats than Dman. THis one might get me. :chuckle:

I've caught nutria under 1 lb and rats over 7lbs.

That would be a cool calender

Good to know she is up and about! I was more concerned about her trapping than I was basketball or soccer :chuckle:
I haven't made any with them, but I should! Thats a good idea. Has she caught any Nutria down river?
-
Critters I really need to film, MARTEN, FISHER and MINK. oh heck, throw in wolverine or Lynx in there too :chuckle:
-
she is doing alot better just needed some rest.. No nutria , just rats, beaver, mink and otter. come to think of it i dont think i have ever seen one where she traps. See did get a 22 lb cat last week.
