Went out for my annual pre deer season coyote hunt / scouting trip and had a great time. At our second set we called for 10 minutes or so and had them answering us but not coming in. I decided to throw in some KiYi's along with the foxpro pup distress sound and all of the sudden one appears to my 3:00. We had predetermined my buddy would be the shooter so I sat where the coyotes wouldn't come in. :dunno: As always they didn't do what they were supposed to. Anyways I spine shot this big male and Nyles went to finish it but he was shooting high and empties the rifle. I stand up and look behind me where the coyotes were supposed to come from and there one is looking at me. He's only 92 yards out but gives me time to move and get set up but then he starts to trot off. The old bark stops him and the barnes TSX smokes him. Nyles is still empty and PISSED. These were supposed to be his dogs after all and who would have thought another would stand still that close with all that shooting and talking?? Weird!! I felt bad but he gathered up some Karma points today. :chuckle: This spring he let me shoot a big fat Tom and now he gives me a double on yotes.
The first one really took a beating. I would have thought the 30 cal barnes tsx would be good coyote medicine but they don't unload enough energy in them for a clean kill. The second one gave a frontal shot and although he was dead when he hit the ground he opened right up, pretty nasty scene, I wont hunt coyotes without my 22-250 or .223 again but I'm working up this new load for deer and I wanted to give it a try in the field.
Thanks bighorns2bushytails I appreciate it. I promise you get the next one...............unless it comes from the wrong direction. :chuckle: :chuckle:
I'll get a pic up later.

Knarly...good work. Looking forward to the pic.

Good start to the season. Nice job.

Here's the pic. The one on the right is a big boss male. The one on the left is the curious pup who shouldn't have stuck around. You can't see it but the shot pretty much emptied him. Nasty.

Saw one other. Looked like a pup. It hung up at our first set. How's you do on the slips? We got two locked up so far.

Pretty good, got 1 for sure. 1 possible. Got a few more doors I need to knock on, but I need to do it when the cougs arent playing..... :chuckle:

It can be difficult for sure. Some of these people can be really hard to pin down but my deer ground is locked up so I'm happy with that. All the others are just for coyotes and pheasants but the hatch looks dismal this year. I do have a good feeling about coyotes this season though. :llam:
Next weekend there's a game in pullman. Unfortunately I'll be there instead of hunting. :'(

Good job! Can't wait to start chasing the dogs.
I need to start making some contacts also. I've had a few verbals but still need to seal the deal. This will be the first time without the late hunt. I'm not looking forward to the mad house.

I'm not looking forward to the mad house.
I hear you. I'm beginning to not even like deer hunting during the general season. I did draw the late tag though. Didn't get one last year and got skunked. :cryriver:
