Title: Camera Insurance
Post by: grandpawrichard on December 28, 2012, 11:41:42 AM
At the first of the year I bought Camera Insurance from State Farm. It covers any and all losses of camera gear that you list. Fast forward to the 5th. of December.

My wife and I were out taking photos, I was using her Canon 300 L. I wanted to sneak a little closer to an Eagle that was feeding on a dead Salmon at the waters edge of the Samish River. Well, the little embankment that I was trying to sneak down was quite a bit slicker than I thought it would be. I slipped and fell down. My body and my right elbow took the brunt of the impact. Nothing was broken except my pride and a tremendous chance for an awesome photo. :(

Or, at least that is what I thought until I tried to take another photo. :( The camera and lens would not communicate. The Lens would not focus. :( That's when I remembered that the lens was a used lens that I had bought, so there was No Warranty on it. :(

We called Canon as soon as we got home. They said to ship it off to them for an estimate on the repairs. So, I rushed it to them. The bill turned out to be $308.75.  :yike: But I paid it immediately so that we could get the lens back as soon as we could. They did the repairs and shipped it back to me post haste within 7 days. :)

When I got it back I tested it out and it worked Fantastic! :) Then I remembered I had Insurance on the lens! :) I called my Local State Farm Insurance company and talked to my Representative. She advised me that the lens repair was indeed covered by my policy, so they are mailing me a check to cover 100% of the repairs and shipping! :)

If you are a Photography nut like I am and you own a DSLR and a couple of lenses you really owe it to yourself to purchase Insurance to cover your gear!

My insurance only cost me $105 per year for all the cameras and lenses that I have listed, but it has Already Paid for Itself in just a few short months! I suggest that you Highly consider getting this kind of coverage on your gear!

You are quite welcome my Friend! :) It is a Camera Insurance Policy that you buy separate of your other insurance policies.
