Title: AR Inflation
Post by: Wea300mag on January 03, 2013, 06:16:19 PM
I was checking the Rock River Arms website and noticed they jacked their prices up. The law of supply and demand is in full force. I haven't checked any of the other sites to see if they are taking advantage of this opportunity. I'm glad I got all my orders in back in November.

I bought a JP silent spring for an AR-10 I'm building. I ordered it last week from midway $118 I checked last night and now the price is $132. All I know is if these companies that make there own part's and there milling machines are not running 24/7 don't complain if you get put out of business and have hundred's or thousands of order's left to fill.

well, im thinking of the supply and demand thing this way.  if nothing comes of this whole mess as far as more restrictive laws... and our access to ars and such is not jeopardized in the future..... there will be tons of people who bought them in a panic, and at some point when the fear of losing the right to buy them wears off, there will probably be a lot of people wanting to sell basically unused guns, and if the market is flooded with people trying to all sell the same gun, should be able to get good deals right?  supply and demand.  im going to be optimistic and hold out for this.

Exactly Deaner! When it comes to certain firearms I have been in buy mode and sell mode hasn't even crossed my mind. My brother and I discussed it and we are thinking the exact same thing. Four years ago we had a similar circus of guys scrambling to purchased what they should have already had. I watched them Paying almost double the going rate for AR's back then and most of it locally was on credit cards. We sat back and waited 6 months or so and scored some great deals on the flood of AR's that were being sold or traded back to the local gun shops and we were picking them up bellow retail. Gotta love Capitalism , it's all about the timing.

Anyone have a SOCOM II they would like to sell? 😊

This could just account for increased production costs. Its a big risk and lots of costs, for any industry, to buy new land, build a new plant, hire new workers, etc etc. The other option to meet demand is increase output on current production lines. That means paying current workers overtime, or hiring night or weekend shifts with premium pay, etc. When you overwork your current production lines, there are more repair costs because more stuff will break down. 10% increase in MSRP is very understandable.

I have a complete Rock River 458 SOCOM upper, Hornady dies, bullets, 60 rounds 300 grn Corbon Hunter loaded ammo, 100 never loaded Starline brass. Never been shot. $2,000 cash firm, no trades.

Factor in some production has slowed and some has even stopped as some manufacturers have been waiting to see what will happen with this recent scare...most all have started up again so things should plateau out soon.

I think its interesting some guys are getting mad at the inflated costs. Its basic supply and demand. Do you really blame them for raising prices, when they can't keep the stuff on the shelves anyways? I don't. There is a chance this stuff won't be around much longer. Welcome to capitalism. I would call it a free market but its government interference that is causing all of this...

 :yeah:

Personally, I love it.  I think it's great to see a very strong capitalist response, both in dealer and private sales, in response to a socialist agenda.  It's almost poetic.  It's also a great teaching tool for young people just being introduced into the "real world".

I can only hope that next Ohblahblahblahma proposes a ban on onions.  I could use the boost in revenue at work!!!   :IBCOOL:

Woohoo! You have to pay to play! I had a buddies girl friend start sniveling about a AR he picked up. I stopped that right there, I said first off your only a girl friend and your not married so as for his bank account and financial matters. It's not even up for debate in the GF department, besides every time I see you, you have a $5.00 coffee  in your hand  and his bank card in your wallet. Add all the coffee's up over the year and see what that adds up to and you want to snivel about a single guy purchasing a AR with money he made every day putting his boots on and going to work while you laid on his sofa watching "Kardashians"(Spelling?) Texting the poor guy all day about where he's going to take you to dinner when he gets home.

Hahaha! She hasn't talked to me much since.

Something is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.  If they can put a DPMS that has an MSRP of $1049 on the wall for $2100 and it is sold within 48 hours (actual example at a gunshop by my work), then that is what that DPMS was worth.
Are they "gouging" us who are/were in the market for AR's?  Nope.  AR's aren't milk and butter items - you don't absolutely, positively have to have one to live from day to day... some may argue that point, however  :chuckle:

Maybe, but given the durable nature of firearms, people seem unlikely to want to take a big loss on them. I rarely see the advantage of buying used when it comes to guns, prices usually seem only marginally lower. Cars depreciate and take up a lot of room and maintenance, not so much with firearms. I would imagine most people would be happier letting them sit unused than selling for a big loss.

Then again, this AR craze is based on fear of new legislation, which if it proves to be unfounded, may have a different outcome.

 :chuckle: :chuckle:

I just don't make my daily trip to the gun shop to check out the new hardware. I get my real entertainment from some of  the clowns trying to purchase a firearm or the classy ass clown that thinks he knows it all running his suck. It's times like this where I actually feel sorry for the guys behind the counter. When I've had enough of the stupidity I can go about my business and walk away. These guys are trapped in it! Like the movie "Groundhog Day". Over and over and over again.  Ha! Postal employee's deal with less crap than these guys do.

You never hear anybody say: Hey man! He lost it and totally went "Gun shop employee".  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

As a veteran of the U.S Army, I carried an M16A3 and have always had a nostalgic place in my heart for those pieces of crap.  Recent (and not so recent) events have changed that.  There is a mentality surrounding that rifle that's just....uncool.  Me and a buddy went to the range on a Sunday morning to shoot our muzzleloaders in preparation for elk season.  The range was packed, and every person besides us (yes I said every person) was there shooting ARs.   :dunno:

That's great, the more AR's the better! They need to be everywhere, I can care less about the left's snivel factor concerning the "Uncool" evil black rifle. Chances are the model of vehicle they are driving has killed more people over the years than the uncool evil black rifle they fear some much.

Exactly.. Capitalism at its finest. People piss and moan about current prices but if it were reversed and they were prepared and did a little forward thinking and were sitting on 10 plus stripped lowers. You can bet your hindend they would be making some $$$ right now.

I have enough for myself, but Im not selling anything because I dont want to not be able to get it again later. If I was pretty confident that no ban would come, Id be selling everything and make a ton of profit. I bought piles of AK and AR mags at $5 each, and Ive got all sorts of stuff that prices have tripled on, but Id rather keep it than to be unable to replace it.
I do have some AK-74 5.45x39 mags to sell though.
