I have a chiweenie(sp?), Chihuahua/mini dachsund mix that I think would be a good shed hunter. she can carry smaller whitetail sheds no problem. she listens good & stays close when told to unless my daughter is around then she doesn't listen at all.

oh come on, look how short those dogs legs are...... how much ground can they cover compared to a normal sized dog?

Tiny ...my chihuahua/rat terrier is a very game little dog....she is totally into vermin, birds and for some reason she is captivated by elk bugles  :dunno: she does not like gunshots so gonna have to work on that.....I am pretty sure she will find sheds BUT my concern in the field is raptors, I do not need an eagle or hawk snatching my dog....lol

my ankle biter (fiona) is like that too, she tears it up wherever she goes & can go under stuff big dogs can't

mwhunter, looks like a great little dog you got there.

Speaking of little hunting dogs, my wife and I were pheasant hunting years ago over by Potholes and we met a guy that had 3 dachshunds out pheasant hunting.  We sat and watched them work an area for a while......they worked it pretty good.  Didn't get anything while we were watching but we talked to him when he got back to his truck and he had one bird.  He said they were good bird dogs.

Love your shed dog.  They might not be able to carry much but they can certainly find things a person could miss.  My sister had a little dog like that when we were kids.  That little dog and our German Shepard would follow us for hours when we were horseback riding.  Years later my Mom had a toy poodle that loved to hunt grouse with my Dad and I.  She would not even try to retrieve but she was great at getting in the brush and flushing birds out.  Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
