If there is anyone with a permit for the Wildwood that could use a little info I would be glad to help. I had a permit in there a few years ago and have also hunted in there a couple of more times with Friends who have drawn, including last year's rifle permit hunt. Because of the number of permits issued each year, and the weather, it seems to be getting more difficult each season. Last year it took a few days for the weather to clear up enough for us to get up high enough to get into the elk and we only found two bunches. I'm not sure how the PM works on here, but will figure it out if you PM me. This is new to me, so please be patient. I'll do the best I can.

My dad has a muzzleloader permit and we have been in there a few days since it opened. Fog was a problem the first day and between snow and logging you can only access about half of the unit. You can probably access more now, last sunday was the last day we were in there. We have seen elk every trip, but just have not had any shot opportunities yet. We will be hunting again on Saturday. We had not been in the area until he drew the permit, its a neat unit. Others we have talked to down there have said the same thing, the elk numbers are down apparently.

Hi Harborhunter, It is a neat place isn't it? It even gets better if the snow melts off a bit and allows you to get higher, and more towards the back side. I'm glad to hear that you're seeing elk every trip. My partners and I have taken some with muzzleloaders and some with rifles in there. If you have any questions please PM me. I can tell you where we have gotten them on past hunts. Special permits are hard to get. I'll do anything I can to help you and your dad. Good Luck to you both!
