Well, just returned from the ATA show. Man was there a lot of complete crap being shoveled this year. New products were easy to find, but I expect 99% of them will be gone by next elk season. Left me shaking my head in amazement far more then saying "Wow!"
I have to give the "Best Of Show" award to RipCord arrow rests. If the production models of the new S.O.S function as well as the prototype it will be the real deal, hands down, winner for my personal arrow rest for years to come. http://www.ripcordarrowrest.com/ripcord_sos.html (http://www.ripcordarrowrest.com/ripcord_sos.html) Once again, great people, great product, great customer service and one exciting new product.
Second place had to go to Bear Archery and the release of the Kodiak 59 recurve. The craftsmanship and attention to detail on this bow is pure custom quality. It looks, fit, shot and carried even better than the original. I bought two of them and I didn't even realize I wanted a recurve bow before I got to the booth. The 60" Kodiak is back and better than ever! I am so excited to hit Oregon's Traditional Only bow zone for elk carrying a classic bow design of this quality. 2013 just might be a more exciting elk season than I had thought it was going to be.
Quite the tight race for third place on my list of good new products. However, I think I will have to give that honor to Sims Vibration Labratory. Their new multi-durometer modular stabilizer really spoke to me. Length, fuction, adjustability and weight was perfect for my bows and my style. I did not think I would ever change stabilizers as I have never questioned what I currently use. But I will be adding one to my new Motive 7 for the 2013 season. Probably adding one to my new Bowtech Experience as well even though the new Bowtech disappointed in the physical weight catagory and will probably get bumped for the Motive 7 come hunting season.
Flex-Fletch had one of the most fun new products in a while. Sorry no link or picture yet. They are laser cutting flames on the back of a short high profile vane. I'm not convinced it will be the stellar performance vane we are used to from Flex-Fletch. But, I left the booth not really worrying about that. It just looked too cool to worry about that. I found myself giggling like a little school girl the whole show just thinking about hitting the range with my arrows fletched with them. I expect it to be just a novelty item for them. But, definitely the fun feel good product of the show.

Yeah, I saw that
It was adequately located at the very back corner of the show by the crapper.

I was just thinking of making a thread asking who all went. That's a show I wish I could attend every year.
Do you attend the shot show? That's my favorite show of all time. I'd go to that every year if I worked in the industry
-
I wouldn't dream of hunting deer with the rambo broadhead but man, down in texas, some hog vermin...I'd take those for a spin in a heartbeat.
-
I've got an idea...shoot a pistol!! 350 -400 grain broadheads have no place in my quiver. Regardless if they explode or not. Give me a 125 or 100 grain broadhead with good sharp blades any day. If I want to blow stuff up my 325 and 338 rifles do just fine for that.
-
Ok....I'm in.....a pistol like a 44 mag with exploding bullets and some hogs....YEP.

Did you go with Joe? You guys have a good time?

Exploding bullets for the 44 mag! I might give that a try on skunk or possum. :chuckle: That could certainly be fun! VP Biden might have a coronary over that though ;)

The truly sad thing is that VP Biden would probably love that. He's just lost any kind of intestinal fortitude he may have had to stand up for his and our gun rights in the wake of this liberal, screaming juggernaut.

Nope! Joe and the golden child went on their own. They stopped by the booth and looked like they were having a good time. Though Joe is always having a good time, isn't he?
As a manufacturer "Fun" would not neccesarily be the word I would use. Dealing with proshop owners can be a little more than frustrating. And since the show started on a Monday booth shipping had extreme challenges we don't normally endure. As far as family reunions go it's about as nice a get together as we get each year.
I have a hard time seeing all these guys that lost their jobs in the last few years spending their life savings on an idea that just does not have a prayer in heck of making it. I fight the urge to voice my concern for their well being and ruin the only dream they have right now. That has never been more present than it was this year.
-
The biggest Ooops of the show might have been made by myself :bash: One of our neighboring booth owners came over and asked if I wanted my picture taken with Big Ben. I looked over and saw some big dorky looking dude. So I said, "No thank you. Never seen or heard of that guy before."
Later that day the fella comes by and says he can not believe I've never heard of Ben Roethlisberger or seen him play with the Steelers. I just had to laugh. I had no idea that is who that was. I thought it was another Jimmy Big Time wannabe or something like that. Guess I should pay a little more attention :dunno:
-
Maybe they just thought you were a Hawks Fan? :dunno:
-
You did the right thing by not getting your picture taken.

:yeah: Exactly what I thought when I read that.

I hear he is a great guy and one heck of a hunter. He seemed to be very generous with his time and allowed plenty of people the chance to take pictures with him. I just didn't expect he would be at a dealer only show like that. Never even entered into my mind that is who he was. Was quite obvious after the fact.
I'd have been happy to have my picture taken with him. Would have been a good opportunity to flip him a little crap too. "What are you doing here? Aren't you guys in the play-offs?" or "So which ring is it that the refs stole from Seattle?" are questions I'd have liked to ask. :chuckle: Though he would have probably left an imprint on my knoggin that I could show to all the Seahawk fans that wonder what a Superbowl Championship ring looks like. >:(

Regarding the Rambo-whatchamacallit: How many years will pass before some transplants from states allowing explosives on arrows to complain to WDFW that they want to use them here, too?
It really torques me off that the so-called Archery Trade Association will hop into bed with anyone who will pay their fees despite the harm it does to the image of bowhunting!
Go Hawks!

Similar products have shown up on the market and at archery shows since the beginning of modern archery. Nothing new. Only difference is this guy has taken a little more time and put a lot more money into making a quality mold for the housing. About every two or three years we see it come and go. Just like spiral bladed broadheads, razor wire trailers, cookie cutter broadheads, and pizza cutter broadheads. They are nothing new and have almost no chance of making any impact in the industry. Odd thing is that this year every one of the above mentioned products hit the seen at the ATA show in a single year. Only chance they have of going anywhere is that our modern sheep/population tends to think with Youtube vision rather than a clear vision of common sense.
Not sure the ATA has the right to approve or disapprove of product designs before allowing vendors to display their products. Besides, it's run by a bunch of ex-politicians...and we all know how good they are at making common sense decisions that benefit society ;) Just as with any form of governing the open market will regulate far better than the governing power ever will. Regulating and governing winners and losers is best done by the people. Even if the morons are threatening to become the majority.

did you get a chance to check out the scott exxus?

Unfortunately I never got the chance to make it to the Scott booth. The sales reps that I use who carry the line are quite excited about it though. They say it is crisp, comfortable and the thumb control adjustability is out of this world. If I wasn't such a Carter slut I might have to give it a try with what I've heard and seen about it. Should be a winner if what I've heard is true.
-
ya it sounds like its going to make a splash.im going to wait to get one used n hear some reviews though.just got me a stan sx2 thats pretty nice in the adjustment department.

Another product I should have mentioned is the new Win & Win all carbon compound bows. They will take over the Carbon Tech bow line and are adding a few more that are quite impressive. These bows are not yet listed on the Win & Win website, but should be soon. Guys who think the Hoyt Carbon riser is the bomb will need to rethink where they want to spend their $1,500 + dollars. Bows will be lighter than Hoyt, have more advanced carbon technology, and are shooting just as fast. One I believe is rated higher in IBO than the Hoyt. The cam on the W&W is much better than the Carbon Tech. I did not get a chance to shoot them at the show so I'm not sure about the felt hand shock in comparison to the Hoyt. But in overall carry and feel I definitely give the edge to the new W&W in that regard. I was impressed enough to pay full price to get one coming my way. Just wish I could still get my Carbon Tech deal on them. Damn they are expensive! That is the only reason they did not make my top three new products list.

I did not notice a booth, but that doesn't mean they weren't there. I was pretty busy writing orders ;)
Nothing against Dan McCarthy but the BEA Affiliate Program makes me ignore them completely. Plus they haven't shown anybody why they are the superior shaft as they claim. High quality carbon futures are hard to come by these days. The military gets most of the good stuff, then Ford and the golf club manufacturers and then very little is left over for some of the arrow manufacturers. The rest use secondary or "B" rated carbon. I have a hard time believing this late comer, little arrow company, with no real advertised unique construction design, bargain priced company who uses it's customers as semi-legal salesmen produces such a superior product. I could be wrong :dunno: But I doubt it.
I have not shot any of their arrows so I could never advise someone against using them. And they are suppose to be a good value of which I have no knowledge to the contrary. But I myself will not be giving up my Carbon Express or Carbon Tech arrows until I can see a glimpse of a noticeable design advantage to the BEA shafts. Just my :twocents:

I would really like to hear what you think about them once you get a few 100 shots down range. And let's hope their web page for the Deep Impact was a mistake (This micro-diameter shaft is manufactured with the lowest tolerances...) :chuckle:
