:whoo: Got goat !
Thanks WDFW for the opportunity to hunt mountain goat.
Thanks to my friend actionshooter for his time spent with me scouting and packing out my goat. I shot the billy at 210 yards wth a 30-06, 180 grain nosler partition.

More details are needed, great looking goat.
-
Wow, nice billy! How about a story and some measurements?
Congratulations!!!
-
I must confess I am jealous. That is a beautiful goat. Honestly I would rather have drawn a goat tag than the moose tag. I am totally stoked about going moose hunting but for some reason goats really intrigue me. I hope you will give us lots of details of your scouting efforts and hunt. Congratulations on putting good use to that tag! Brian.

Too Cool 8)

I'll let Alpinegus post his own story but I've had a hard time keeping my mouth shut. :chuckle:
I was just a spectator/ goat locator but it will be one of my hunting season highlights just hanging out during the scouting/ hunting.
As for the score, he's a dandy!!

I started scouting and reviewing the topo's as soon as I drew the tag. In talking to actionshooter we figured we put on about 40 + miles of scouting on foot. I have many miles of driving the unit Naches / Corral Pass.
Seen goats every time out. Finding a billy was what I was hoping for. One day we counted as high as 37 goats off of different peaks.
I hunted the first weekend with archery. I stocked in on two billies. I was to dang excited to be in proper hunt mode. I walked to the edge where I seen the goats and they were not there. Stalking around I realize now that I was probably only 40 yards above them. I ended up spooking them and they started moving. Trying to get around, I got 90 yards from them, but got busted and they went up and over the rock cliffs. I can not believe what they can climb.
I thought all was lost, but the next day they were back and bedded down out of archery range. With the loose rock and no easy access; we decided it was best to come back when rifle season opened. On Monday I was there to hunt the goats and they were there. I had a 40 yard window in the trees to take the 210 yard shot, and the larger billy stopped just before he entered the woods. After shooting him, he went 60 yards. The other billy just went back to feeding. My billy did get up once more and I had to shoot him again. The rest of the day was spent getting him back to camp. :brew: The horns are 10 1/8 inches long.

Congratulations!
... my favorite big game animal, I am jealous! Two weekends ago I was out bear hunting and my dad and I were able to glass 83 different mountain goat and able to stock up to 65 yards on one nice 10+ inch billy, it was really fun, if only I could draw a tag now!
-
Congrats on the nice billy!!!!!
-
Awesome looking animal. I'm definitely a little green eyed about it...   Congrats. Are you getting it mounted?
-
Going to do a shoulder mount. Caped it out while on the mtn.
-
How cool is that!? I am very jealous!
Every goat I have seen was in such a bad spot I was sure they would fall 1000' if shot. You must have really put the time in to find a spot where he would not fall?
-
Congrats on an awsome animal!
-
Congrats man, that is a beautiful animal. Way to go!
-
Man awesome hunt and what a great trophy!! Hopefully within the next fifty years I'll get a chance at one! :brew:

Great goat!!! If I could only put in for one OIL tag it would be for goat.
-
He's a stud! Congrats!
-
I have to say Alpinegus really did his homework! I have never seen anyone put in such detail with satelite photos, maps and general scouting and I think it really paid off.
I went over to Alpinegus house the night we got back and If we scored him right, after a 1/8" deduction, he green scored at 49 6/8". It takes 50" for B/C but I wouldn't have passed him up, I think it would be pretty hard to top this one.
It has been a really cool month of scouting and hunting. I'm kinda sad to see it end :)
Anyone else need a helper on a OIL hunt? :chuckle:
-
Great goat, I am also jealous. Been wanting one of them for many years. Alpinegus, don't you have one more big hunt to go on? A little birdie told me you also got drawn for a moose tag. That's just not fare, just kidding. Congratulations.

Yeah we talked to a lady who brought her umptanum sheep in at the same time as my dads to get the horns plugged and she drew both the umptanum sheep and desert a deer this year, this guy may be even luckier than she is
-
:dunno: Don't believe it happened, but yes I drew a moose tag too.
Here are some pictures of the billy a week earlier.
