I received an inquiry from a guy wanting to buy skulls. No prices mentioned but you can contact him at jaymoleker@gmail.com and see if it is worth your while.
-
I buy raw cat and otter skulls too bruce on occasion.
-
I thought selling harvested animal parts was illegal? Maybe just specific animal parts :dunno:
-
Technically a kind of a gray area. I'm not aware of any one ever ticketed for selling parts from furbearing animals.

Isn't this specified in WAC or RCW?
-
It would seem so but the WAC references another WAC dealing with taking and holding wildlife alive for sale or opersonal use.
Technically it could be said to be illegal but again I have never known anyone to be ticketed for it. Something that I need to talk to them about changing.
-
What about selling, say like, muskrat carcases to a bait maker, is that legal, a guy asked me that question so I'm kind of passing it on.
-
Some further thought on the matter:
The law does not specifically say it is illegal to sell parts of furbearing animals. It does say "Trapping season authorizes the taking of furbearing animals for their hides and pelts only" then it references a WAC dealing with the holding of animals alive.
It doesn't say it is illegal to sell parts of animals that were trapped for their hides or pelts. Like I said no tickets have ever been written to my knowledge and WDFW is at all our fur sales and watched this stuff go in the auction and never said a word.
I would not worry about selling skulls, glands or carcasses as long as the animal was trapped for the pelt. It does need a change in wording and I will bring it up.

The specific section of WAC you are looking for is WAC 232-12-071: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=232-12-071 (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=232-12-071)
Short answer: It is legal to sell raw skulls as long as the animals are legally harvested, are not taken in body gripping traps, and as long as the possession and sale are not prohibited by federal law. You cannot buy or sell skulls of bears, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, or any animals with velvet antlers.
I received confirmation of all this in writing not long ago from the WDFW Administrative Regulations Coordinator.
I buy lots of skulls.

Thank you. The trapping law is sort of confusing in it's wording and I think was intended to prohibit trapping animals for live sale.
It does need a little fixing.
-
Has anybody had any success with this?
-
I tried last night and it came back as a non existing email address.
-
I have the guys phone #. I don't know why the e-mail won't work. Probably copied it wrong. I called him and apparently he only wants one skull of each specie.
I'm sending him a few things. If it works out I'll give his number out by PM and I'll post what he wants.
Sounds like $10/skull for common stuff.
Sorry if people thought he was taking large amounts. I got the wrong impression from his e-mail.
