When I opened up this hen to breast her out I found these white worm like things. Is this Fat?, a Parasite? Something else I may not have thought of?
-
Its a parasite, cant think of the name of it,its safe to eat if fully cooked
-
google rice breast... ( and only pull up the waterfowl related topics) :chuckle:
-
It's called Rice Breast (Sarcocystis). Yes, it is a parasite. You can supposedly eat them when thoroughly cooked. I never have been able to do that though.
-
I have shot probably a dozen birds with this over the last 5 years. It is a parasite as mentioned. I won't eat one as I am not willing to be the guinea pig.
-
I can't get myself to eat it either. I feel bad in a way but I don't even think i could keep it down without :puke:
-
I've never shot one with rice parasite so big! I don't eat them. Did the duck a favor shooting it.

Saw this back in the 80's in WI, started skinning all my ducks after that.
