Title: My Okanogan county cougar
Post by: teanawayslayer on January 21, 2013, 06:05:20 PM
I nailed this big cat over the weekend.  We went out looking for yotes and ended up with this tom.  We set up and started predator calling and a few minutes and I see some movement in the rocks about 250 yards away.  The cat saw us at the same time and he was off to the races.  I had a hurried shot while he was on the run.  Hit him in the hind quarters blowing right on through.  I could tell he was hit good as I spun him around. He disappeared In the rocks and couldn't see him.  It was steep and around three feet of snow and took us a good hour or more to get up to where I hit him.  Blood was all over..  we followed the blood trail it seemed like he was just walking in circles.  I go out on a rock out cropping and look down around 40 yards or so and see the cat down the hill from us.  His ears were pinned back looking at us.  I put the smack down on him.  It was a cool feeling to finally fill a cougar tag after 21 years of hunting.  Thanks guys for all your help and being a part of my hunt.

Holey Mackerel,  some of those pictures make it look like a 300 lb cat.  I think I'd have some of those nice pics blown up and framed to put on the wall.  The photographer did an outstanding job near the quality of Boneaddict I'd say.   Every hunters envy for sure.

Hey teanawayslayer, hopefully you don't mind, but I just got some new picture software and wanted to play with this picture. The colors in this picture have potential to make it awesome but the stark contrast can be hard to make what you want, the animal and you, to stand out appropriately. Here is my alteration for what its worth.

Outstanding! Congratulations.

Last time I was coyote calling, only a ranch dog responded. He was sure surprised, then glad, to see me. We bonded. I keep dreaming of a cougar answering the call. Not a ranch dog.

Sigh...

Just curious; what do people do with the Cougar meat? Seems like a waste of wildlife to shoot something you won't eat. I like the idea of shooting them to help control the population thou. When I was a kid I use to shoot Cyotes and let them lay. Then I started questioning if that was very ethical? Since I have not shot a Cyote in years. I just let them pass. I don't want to try and skin one of those mangie things. Too me they are nothing more then a wild dog that is invested with flees and ticks. No thanks...
