Title: What deer?
Post by: crow killer on January 23, 2013, 06:39:43 PM
Here's a question I haven't seen on a topic!
I would rather kill a big Muley, even though I've never attempted to hunt them!

I have to say Blacktail too !! I love all types of deer hunting but Blacktail are in a league all by themselves .

The biggest challange anyone can ask for is to kill a mature blacktail buck, not talking a small 4 or 3 point but something that scores over 130+. There is simply not a tougher deer to hunt. I love any big buck, but I'm still trying for that trophy blacktail. This one is my best blackie so far, score 117.

Does it give you an error when you try Sundance?

I voted for blacktail but only because that is my current obsession. I could easily change my mind in a year or two and go with mule deer. I love the country that mule deer call home. But I've already killed a decent mule deer (162ish). So I'd love to get a mature blacktail, score is irrelevant, could be just an old, heavy 2 point. I don't know that it will ever happen. I have enough trouble just getting trail cam pictures of them.

Whitetail all the way. You can hunt them in the mountains or in the suburbs. They are America's deer. They are everyones deer. They are perfect.

Here is how this exact poll turned out 5-6 months ago.

Definitely a muley. There big and a rush to hunt I've already got 2 blacktails and hopefully for 2013 season i get a whopper when i head down to Idaho and hunt for some monsters. I also like the color they get when they get there winter coat.

I grew up hunting BT's and still enjoy hunting them.  But I voted for mule deer.  I absolutely love to hunt mule deer.

And a BT doesn't need to score in the 130's to be impressive or old.  One of the most impressive BT's that I have ever seen is a 2x3 with eye guards that a buddy killed and it is on the wall next to a 4x4 BT that scores in the upper 130's and I would shoot the 2x3 over the 4x4 every time.

I chose mule deer because i love them, i grew up hunting them, tho after killing a nice whitetail this past season, i may have to try again  i have no desire to shoot a blacktail, i pass up multiple bucks per season while archery elk hunting. I like to fill my freezer, not have one meal :sry: :dunno:

Nothin beats chasin velvet muleys in the Idaho backcountry with a bow. Warm weather, great scenery and the lack of people makes it something to look forward to every year.

Two record book bucks live on my walls a muley and a blackie.... Gotta go whitetail right?? I don't think so, anyone with enough money can buy any trophy big game animal in North America except a Washington Columbia blacktail. To me that is what makes a trophy. Sundance way to go man I love it!! That buck is way more of a trophy than any 180" whitetail any day!

OK I'm boring.  I picked blacktail because they live outside my house and at this point in my hunting career I am about the meat and certain success, especially now that I have been doing archery.
And as a teacher, I don't have the time to travel far in the fall...but maybe someday...

When you can find a place to hunt trophy South Carolina whitetail let me know.  :chuckle:   There are places you can buy a trophy blacktail but I agree that WA isn't one of those.

I voted blacktail again simply because they are by far the most beautiful and the hardest of the species to kill a mature animal.

I can now saw I've hunted them all and I still pick the mule deer.  I love hunting in the country they live in. Whitetail eats better, blacktails are closest to home  for me. Still love mulies whether or not I get one.  I know I still have time for a blacktail  when I get back from a muledeer hunt.

It just shows me a blank page and wont reload. I have tried from both mine and my wife's PC. Too bad because we harvested 3 nice blacktail's this season. Mine was a 4x5 on the 20th of Oct., another one a 4x3 on the 25th, and lastly a 2x3 on the 18th of Nov. I think. All archery tackle.

Try making your pics smaller. Great job on the blackies. My fav to .

Resize your pictures.

800x600 or smaller and they will post just fine.

I feel like all three are equal. The diversity of terrain you hunt them in and obviously whitetail are all over so each state prob a little different experience..

Blacktail are the toughest to hunt in my opinion and are in some awesome challenging thick terrain.

Muleys get huge, and there is just something about spot and stock in open terrain...

And I know Whitetail have a bad rap here, and all the hunting shows make them look easy to hunt, but if you ever get an opportunity to hunt then in the North East where I grew up, especially Maine!!! Its big country, the fall is beautiful, snow falls early and the bucks get 300+ pounds and have great natural genetics!

Shot lots and lots of black tail and a few nice whitetails...but I have only shot one muly.
I'd like to get a nice muly to add to my collection of deer mounts.

A big Mule deer with my bow, followed in a close second to a big Blacktail. Sadly, I was a few inches away this year from fulfilling the big Blacktail dream. :(

I picked blacktail because a big ol mature, stinky, sneeky, blacky buck is just so bada$$. But hunting high country mulies is not far behind for me. Any mature buck in my book is cool.......tough question

Shot lot's of Blacktails in My life, now I've got my share of nice Whitetails, I would really like a nice Mule Deer, might take this Old Man twice as long to get up where they live but that's what I'm planning.
