Title: The Worst firearm you have owned?
Post by: phishisgroovin on September 21, 2008, 08:52:18 AM
So, what is by far the very worst firearm that in the store was awsome, you just HAD to have it, but when you got home and did some research you found it horribly unsafe and not worth what you paid for it.

Mine was this one below. RG23

I traded work for a kel~tek 9mm. Its a rediculous pos. The trigger is a joke and the mag falls out everytime you shoot unless you snug your pinky under it when shooting.

Phish

I had one like that and carried it on the trapline for many years, killed more critters than most see in a life time.  It also took alot of snowshoe rabits and grouse.  Most shots weren't more than 15 feet but it never failed to go off.  Just traded it off this past year for and old Stevens hammer double for a wall hanger.

Hey Gutpule, if you still have the keltec call 'em up and have 'em send you a shipping label. IT's probably one with a plastic magazine catch--they'll upgrade/replace for free.

I like how cheap my Ruger .10/22 is to shoot, but the darn thing jams and FTF's all the time. It would be nice if the trigger wasn't so bulky, either.

For me it was a Savage 110?   You know the ones, that were sold with a scope included???  Biggest POS I ever owned.  Out of the box it shot 10 in. groups at 100 yrds.
After a lot of work, I finally got it down to 3 in groups.  Sold that POS and bought my Browning BLR.  That gun would go into the best gun I ever owned.

I Too had a savage model 110 with the bushnell scope.  I just figured it was the scope that was off, sometimes it would hit the target other times i was like, WTF just happened, im not that bad of a shot!  I traded it to a guy for my wifes Christmas present!

Jennings 22 pistol.  Bought it in college because it was cheap.
Jams more than it fires.

I just traded some calls and a knife for one of those. It's really reliable. Way better than I expected. 15 yard pie plate too! I guess you never know!

I got a pump shotgun in trade for work once. Second round would stick BAD every single time. Loose and clunky. Would have rather taken the $100 cash!

A Savage 110 - one of those that Joes used to sell including the scope.  Worst POS I ever pulled a trigger on.  Out of the box it shot patterns, not groups.  Had to completely bed the plastic stock, just to get it almost to MOA.  Will not own another Savage bolt gun as long as I live, to many other options that I know will shoot.

WHen I was in high school I bought a 12 ga Savage pump.  :bdid: Can't remember the model.  Everytime I tried to put a 3 inch shell through it, it would jam.  Jammed a lot of 2 3/4 " also. :bash:  I finally "sold" it to a buddy of mine for about half what I paid for it.  I think he gave me $50 and was supposed to give me another $50 the following month.  I never saw the other $50.
THat was 20 years ago and I still can't bring myself to buy another Savage product.  :puke: Sounds like I'm not the only one.

I found that my Ruger 10-22's quit jamming when I started using nothing but jacketed shells. the lead nose .22 shells will hang up on the ramp after awhile.

I still have my worst ever.....a JC higgins 20 guage bolt action shotgun. Cant even find parts for it.......  I hate it so bad am thinking of either painting it and making it my turkey gun, or trading it for $100 at the next Obama buy your gun back program!   :chuckle: If I paint it up and nail a bird with it, it may be my new fav'!

I actually just received a second one that the owner did not want.

I am willing to take any you have off of ya' so they can all be together over here.   I keep the two of them out near my hunting gear so if anyone breaks in, hopefully they will grab these two shotguns and get out of here. Not going to put them in the safe.....

Me too. I had a Kmart special Savage 110 with the wonderful Simmons 3x9 POS scope. When I would go to close the bolt the shells would fly out of the magazine sometimes instead of into the chamber. After I replaced the scope with a Burris 3x9 it shot great groups but the shells continued to pop out so I replaced the rifle with the rifle I now have. Weatherby Mark 5 in .300 Wby Mag.

I will not complain to much about the savage as I killed a bear and some deer and My first elk with that "crappy" rifle. I couldn't see using a rifle that could possibly cause me to miss out on the buck or bull of a lifetime because the ammo would not feed properly.

I had a Rem 870 Express in 12 ga. The gun is a great gun but one that I never seem to shoot great. I bought the gun for duck hunting and shortend the stock by about 1 inch to compensate for the extra padding you have during duck season, (thick duck coat, sweatshirts etc). That was great during the winter but come summer when I would go shoot clay pigeons the gun would smack me in the nose (actually my thumb) everytime I shot because my hand rested farther back on the stock. Took about a 1/2 box of shells to figure out why the hell my nose was sore, I think I actually broke it one time shooting it.

I had a buddy who was looking for a pump. He had a Model 50 Winchester semi-auto that I really wanted so we traded guns, I was happy he was happy and I've had it ever since (close to 20 years Now) , its a great gun.

I got one of those JC Higgins in 16 guage bolt action.  I killed a bunch of rabbits with it.  Squirrels too.  Its my "loaner" gun.  It shoots good but I always forget how the adjust a choke works.  Which way do I turn it?

I shoot it occasionally.  It s wierd to have a bolt action shotgun.  I took it to the clay range once to see what I could do with it.  I got strange looks, it looks like you are shooting clays with a rifle lol.

Bought a Remington 742 at a gun show and couldn't get the scope to hit the paper even at 25 yards. Turns out to have had a bent barrel. Sent it down the road and bought a Browning BAR that did almost the same thing. Only this one had  something wrong with the rifling about 4 inches from the crown. Couldn't make a legal carbine out of it so it went down the road too. Have had several very good BAR's in the past and my current one (.30-06) is my favorite.

+1

Also my loaner. My Grandad gave me that shotgun. I've hung onto it because it was his, but I've Never used it cause I had a Ithaca model 37 and a Winchester Model 12.

Oh yeah, I forgot all about my tec-9.  A buddy had it cause he needed money and wanted to sell it dirt cheap.  You could see the bullets going to the target with the sun behind you.  With such a short barrel it couldnt be accurate.  It came with a 40 and a 50 round clip that had a binder that held them together, for a total of 90 rounds.  Youd need them to hiut anything further than arms reach almost.  I have to agree, it wasnt vary accurate lol.  It was fun to waste ammo with though, kind like playing land with a knife, see who could get closest to shooting things.

At 15 yards the bullets were tumbling, you could the the profiles where they were going thru the target sideways.

Remington 870 Express, it was rusting right out of the box, it had rough machining, it kept jamming, the butt pad seemed harder than concrete.   Why did I ever buy it, well it was $150 NIB (rusty in box).

As far as accuracy, ruger Mini-14.  I have killed 3 or 4 critters with it, but all were either very close or the "spray and pray" variety.  It is the most fun to shoot, going A-Team on targets and all.  But I can sight it in at 100 yards, and the next time at the range cannot hit a paper plate.  I don't know what the heck is wrong with that thing.

My BAR is a tempormental SOB also.  I have an old Browning Pump action 22 LR that is a POS as well.  Yet, I can't bring myself to sell any of them.

I guess I have some separation issues when it comes to guns.

22 darenger pistol I missed a grouse with it at 10 feet. I think the bullets go out sideways and it has a trigger pull of like 10 pounds.  :chuckle:

When we were kids, my brother and I made a .22 “zip” gun out of a couple of blocks of wood, a broken off car antenna, a nail and a rubber band.  The rubber band never worked but we could get it to fire if we whacked the nail a time or two with a rock.  It was hard to aim and not too reliable.  Luckily we both still have all of our fingers.

A winchester muzzleloader, made in Spain.  It's the worst POS I've ever owned.  It's about as reliable as giving $20 to a wall street banker and getting your change.

Oh, yeah.  I have one of those Spanish made muzzys.  Bought it used last minute so I could make it to an elk camp I was invited to the year I moved up here. Missed 2 elk with it my first year, missed another one the next year.  I give that gun full credit for me taking up bowhunting.  It looks cool hanging on the wall in my trophy room though...

I currently own a Helwan pistol...thats pretty much a turd.  It was supposed to be a Berreta copy.  Beretta opened a plant in Egypt so they could mass produce these pistols.  Lets say theyre not quite up to Beretta standards.  It usually jams after the first few shots and recently the spring in the magazine just blew out the other end.  So Im looking for another magazine...maybe I should just look for another pistol :dunno:

Had a walther p99 in 40 cal. with the titanium finish about 5 years ago.

Had it for about 3 months and the titanium finish rusted on me (manufacture defect)and shot like a lead of pooh. Nice to look at and better to feel in the hand but it lobbed bullets. Called walther and they replaced it with a straight blued p99 that wasnt any better so i got my money back.

Savage 110-i have two a 243 and a 7mm and have killed lots of stuff with both but they are just really cheaply made guns. i have had trigger springs break and the bolts that hold the gun to the stock have fell out alot.

My Ruger 10-22 is VERY picky about the ammo it likes. It will bind up for no reason at all. If I take it out plinking, I bring along another gun just in case.

As for the WORST gun... a compact Llama 1911. If you had two consecutive rounds go off without stovepiping, you were lucky. Hell, even my Mac-10 went off every time I pulled the trigger (where the bullet went after that was a different matter. Certainly not a straight line)
