Title: Rate your season 1 to 10.
Post by: hdshot on January 28, 2013, 01:13:51 PM
Since I don't have time to hunt two days in a row, mine would be about an 8.  We hit the weather right most of the time and used our experience more instead of scouting because of the lack of time and gas prices.  Looking forward for summer now.

4.  I had some people that over-hunted the private land I usually hunt.  That, along with a lack of water, made hunting pretty tough.  I also had twins in November, which made doing anythying difficult.  I did get a few good shoots in and had at least some action every time I went.  Now it is time to secure some new places to hunt for next year.

Hunted very hard in my normal haunts only to find more wolves than deer.   Air wasn't even fresh.

SORRY, didn't realize this was in waterfowl.

4, our party shot 200 birds less than last year.  Birds have changed common locations bigtime!

4 The spots I normally hunted got a lot more pressure making it a less than desirable duck year, but I got to meet a couple forum members which made it better

8-I had a lot of good hunts with a few slow ones in the mix. I saw more birds this year than I have for many years. Several times I was in awe of the sheer numbers of ducks passing overhead. Can't remember having so many duck tornados take place over my spread in a single season! Wish I'd have been able to get more field goose hunts in. All in all it was a great season. Managed to harvest my first elk as well! Many good memories!

10 although we were froze out the last 2 weeks, still shot a ton of birds (literally almost a ton) :). More importantly spent great time with good friends and family.  A mature Tom, 5 point bull, 3 point buck and color phase bear on top of that made 2102 my best year to date.  Looking forward to a great 2013!!!

8... Had a lot of fun. Did not hunt as much as normal, but still enjoyed the season very much! Elk season suffered due to snow and fog, but still saw some animals. Thanks to FF4607, I was able to take my Dad (Pennsylvania resident) deer hunting in an area that I had only dreamed about before. I was able to harvest some doves and ducks with my 4yo son which was priceless. Great season!

i would say a 7 better than last year but not as good as years past. didnt get as much scouting in and that made things tough and birds were in different areas and had some unusual shoots at a few locations, but overall a good season and was very happy to get out as much as i did.

I am going to go with 4.  It is always better to be hunting than working, but man it was slow up on the North end this year.  Besides one lights out shoot with "scottcrb" it was a season of 1 and 2 bird days.  Birds didn't show up in any great numbers until after my season had pretty much ended due to work.  Hoping for better next year.

10, not measured by quantities or trophy's but measured by quality time

I'll just put a 7 that way it gives me room for improvement.  Shot a lot of birds this season.  They weren't easy limits like the last few years, I had to put more work into this season, but still managed to do very well.  I guess the biggest change was my 9 year old passed hunters ed and he was in blind.  I would always let him shoot first and I would bat cleanup.  That added it's own challenges, but great time spent training up the upcoming waterfowler.

Big game wise it was nothing but a 10.  I harvested a nice 4x4 bull elk, dandy BT 3x3 w/ eye guards and a spring color phase chocolate colored black bear.  My 9 year harvested a great little button buck for his first deer.

Would rate it about an 8. Made it out 35 times from December 1st on and shot 20 fewer birds than last year. Lots of birds around, but the lack of water in my area really hindered the all day flying. Already looking forward to next season.

"9" Didn't set a record on geese but got more than enough. Set a new high record for ducks. Spent the time on private property which is where I want to be next year.  My dog retieved a large number of birds because I took him almost every time. Only had to hit public property a few times to get geese. Didn't have to use the boat once. Didn't go Brant hunting which I usually do, but got mallards every time out. Didn't get skunked once so I consider it an awesome year.

solid 10. Started the year with a good chukar/hun hunt and good pheasants including one eastside limit day. Bagged first banded duck and shot a double on my very first geese. good days on ducks with my first limit of ducks and first retrieves with my GSP out of a duck blind. Wow. To look back it was amazing.

I gotta say 10. Killed more ducks (and pheasant for that matter) than ever before in a single season.

I'd say, 8! It could've been better but the birds would come and go! Can't wait for next year

I would give mine an 8 as I would have liked to have had more days. Highlight would have been my 10 year old getting his second Harlie,my daughter getting her first duck and Harlie and me getting another Harlie. I am going to have all three mounted together to celebrate the season. I did also get my first redhead. Not a bad season.

My duck season was a 10, lots of great hunts. Bird numbers could could have been better. The hunts were great though.

I'd give it an 8.  Good early season, but the smaller water froze out earlier than I Like which limit our opportunities.

6 at best.  Local birds were pushed out very early on.  New birds were sporadic and the big push still hasn't arrived.

Not as many birds as last year but got a new hunting buddy. He had some fun times in the field and got on the geese pretty good.

i would say a 5. we spent almost the whole season figuring out the comlumbia and how to be productive on it. had more bad, less successful days, than good shoots, but we got it nailed down by the end of the year. next year should be an 8-9 i think. i did see my first lusistic hen mallard on the opener, never presented a shot tho, and was able to take a few birds i had never shot before. that was good.

tough to say...7 maybe. i never really got a chance to go out but i did get to go on 2 goose hunts and slam a pile of them. i've never been able to do that so that made my season for me.

1 - since I spent the entire season working in Alaska. In a man camp where firearms are not allowed.
I did live vicariously thru Hunt-WA members and there photos tho. Thx guys & gals.

10. It was my first season. Only hunted 5 days, two of those I sat in the pouring rain most of the day. Any day outside with a gun or a fishing pole is a great day for me!

A solid 9. I got my first ducks, my first pheasants, got to spend some time in the field with some great people and made a couple new friends. The only reason it's not a 10 is that I didn't get as much time to hunt as I would have liked due to home/family obligations.

Actually one of the better years I've had in a long time. Consistantly had birds all season. Not a ton of lights out done in 20 minutes hunts but decent hunting all season. Real similar to the 99 season in a lot of ways.

Did great but did not see a lot of birds or make it out enough. Lets just say I didn't miss many shots. Had my best shoot ever. Got a triple reloaded and got another triple out of the same flock. Jumped a big flock of mallards and teal and came up with five mallards and 1 teal.
Lost the only private access I had because the property was sold off.
But even with lack of access anywhere ended the season with 73 ducks.

Elk hunting the Bethel unit was bone dry this October...
The Muleys in eastern washington seemed to be a bit more scarce and weary in my sage spot
Birds were pushed hard so shot opportunities were few and far inbetween
Yotes were plentiful... hmm maybe says something about my Muley spot which is also my current yote spot.......
