We should pick a date after all the seasons close that we can all meat somewhere, grab breakfast and have a little yote derby. It'd be a good way to meet each other and tell war stories. What do you think?
Since we're so spread out maybe meet at Ritzeville or Moses lake. Maybe even two meets, one west and one east.
Yes? No? Maybe?
-
I'd be down for that depending on when. I have orders to a new base and will be gone in late November.
-
I think thats a great idea, would be a ton of fun, count me in.
-
I would be down with that, even though I am a west-sider. Would be great to team up with you guys and do some serious learning.
-
Sounds like something I would like to be a part of. West sider myself...
-

Man!!! Your leaving right when it's starts getting good. Hope it works out. I really don't start hammering them till December and January but I suppose it couldn't hurt to have it earlier.
Now we need a fearless leader to guide us and run this thing.
-
I think Sagedawg should run it. :dunno: :chuckle: :dunno:
-
if there is money involved we would need a permit now. new law i see. been to a few contest going to oklahoma. Arizona and idaho this year maybe other's for fun. Rick
-
I've heard rumors of that. Where can we read about this?

I know. Bad timing. But I'm getting stationed in Hawaii so I think I'll live. 8) I really want to do some night hunting before I go.

under the new law's in the pamplet. Rick

You talking about the new laws concerning public lands? Not sure that would apply. I'd assume east siders would hunt private ground and it says a permit is needed for more than 30 people.
Am I looking in the right spot?
-
i would be down to drive to the east for a contest, only use eletronic calls though not to good at reg. calling. but only problem is the pass in the winter isn't to safe to drive across, no one would want an accident along the way.
-
personaly I hunt public land, but would like to get in good with a few land owners who have a yote problem. I would do it just to meet with likeminded dog hunters, have a good time and learn from others about this thing i have become addicted to. anyway just my thoughts on this deal.
-
I'd enjoy that. Even if it was just a meet & greet Coyote hunt! I've found a few spots in the Basin. (I'm heading to the Tri's to learn some more areas and meet some other members this time next week!!!) There's plenty of land in the Basin, public and private, for 20 guys to hunt for a day or so. (Pretty crazy to meet on the West side to hunt Coyotes!)
I'd suggest after the little ponds have iced up. Like the first week of January or so. Before the breeding season. They're hungry, but not "otherwise" distracted yet! Tons of fun calling in the cold!
The pass is sometimes bad, but if it's open, then it's fine by me. I hunt in worse driving conditions every time I chase the cats that time of year. 4x4, keep the chains handy, take your time.
-
As long as its not for money I can do it. My job wont let me do it if money is involved, I guess for some reason is a conflict of interest if its for money. Some of are guys do coyote work for a living for wildlife services, but I'm stuck in a shop all year so I dont know how that works. :dunno:
-
meet and greet dog hunt if fine by me. I take the pass all the time in the winter, so no worries there for me. Ny truck can take 4-5 of us plus gear over anytime.
-
Put me down for the WEST side. I actually live in SW Wash. Near Vancouver. That would be fun, meet up with other Coyote Hunters, get some advice, tips, etc... At least we would all have so much in common, would be fun.
I just started this year, and really haven't had much success. Only called in 2.. :dunno: :dunno: I have many places to hunt, about 10 areas. Mostly private land. And have been out about 40 times, at about 4 to 6 stands each time..argh!
Cheers

I feel your pain! I have only called in one and missed him at 50 yards.
-
I was at my Grandma and Grandpa's this afternoon sitting in their living room and a friggin coyote walked right by on their sidewalk!! They live in the back of a neighborhood on a pond in Puyallup, so there are lots of eagles, rabbits, ducks, etc. but a COYOTE?? I know they are in suburban areas and it was stupid as hell too. I walked outside, mouse squeaked at it and it froze about twenty yards from me. I could of greased it with a slingshot. :chuckle: My grandma said she had been seeing it the last couple mornings. They need to whack it before it kills their cat. Crazy stuff right there :o

I would be up for it if one was held on the wetside.
-
I'm game, but if it's in the Basin area, I'll have to hitch a ride with someone.
-
let's have one on each side. Rick
-
Good idea, Rick!
Could have a Coyote/Bobcat Meet & Greet hunt on the wet side and hope someone gets one! Hunt your way there, meet someplace to brownbag midday, hunt the PM daylight, meet for Dinner... Maybe the Meet & Greet that's already being planned for Jan?
But if we're talking Coyote Contest scaled down to a meet & greet/see who gets the most, where we want to do a few stands and have a good chance to bag up some dogs, it's gotta be East side.
-
Sounds like fun and I bet more bull gets shot then yotes.
Michelle and I had discussed this last year, but didn't know if many would be interested. The westside is hard for most folks to gain access to good areas so we are stuck with timber lands that are thicker than thick.
-
If it fell on one of my weekends off I would be down.
-
I think Sagedawg should run it. :dunno: :chuckle: :dunno:
I just dont see how anyone could harm the cuddly little dogs..... :chuckle: :chuckle:
I might be giving up yote hunting to focus more on my yoga and making tofu :chuckle:, as well as braiding new hemp sandls, :chuckle: plus Ill be in meditation from Nov 20 thru Nov 30.. :hunter:.becoming one with nature.......lol Im in but Im ascared of these things :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: so it will have to be after meditation time

It's just a home brewed 6x45 with 16" barrel with a couple of typical goodies and a little Krylon spray can camo. The 6x45 has proven to be a great choice on these critters, I never get walk aways or run offs, they just hit the dirt hard where they stand.
I let the air out of this one with a 75gr. Hornady HP from about 60 yards. I had been watching two out about 500 yards or so and this guy decided he would like to have a taste of rodent squeaks from the Minaska Outdoors Bandit caller, instead I injected him with the Hornady sleeping pill. The skull is in the peroxide and the pelt is on the board. Should be able to punch the other one next week.
-
I am there!!! East West, I dont care, I am there. How about rules etc?? is it teams.?? Do we need a challenge?? :) ;)
:IBCOOL: Isn't it common knowledge that west side hunters are better callers?? :chuckle: I heard that Bearmanric can call a fly off of a cow pie!! :o Do we want to ante up some sort of pot? entry fee or something? Snow on the pass is no big deal.

I would be up for a little shoot, just for fun would be good with me if a contest didn't work out. What month? January?
-
free would be the best idea since gas is expensive in it self and it would be cool to get more then a few poeple there, maybe get a crowd and take out fawn killers...
-
I have been killing a lot of them here. I think that I'm up in the 40 dog range for this year :tung:
-
Weekend after the Super Bowl is always a good one for a little coyote tourney. That's ususally about the 2nd weekend in Feb. For those who'd want to stay in a hotel... we could probably set-up some kind of group rate too.
Moses Lake would be a good spot for a rendezvous point... pretty accessable (2-4 hour drive) from most areas of the state. There's also a lot of good terrain to hunt within reasonable distance.
Maybe we could get some prize donations from a few site sponsors... whatever... just a good time to get out and network.
Two-man teams, and a Noon (or even 8am) on Saturday to Noon on Sunday is a good way to run... gives most of the day on Sat., one evening, one morning, and one night for those who like to call in the dark (a kick-ass time if you've never done it). Then it gives enough time to shoot-the-bull for a bit, and be home for work on Monday.
I'd love to get in... we could also do some pair-ups for guys who don't have a partner.
-
Im in jus need more info and rules etc.
-
Calling Only! None of this Cowboy, 4x4, Spotlight, Run & Gun Crap!
Hope I can afford to go, starting to sound like fun! (I definatley vote for pre-breeding season, January.)
-
I like the idea, if in the Moses Lke area best bet is after pheasant season. Wetside anytime big game is over. I'll be over in the basin for a week in January chasing coyotes and pheasant.

I have real bad luck with yotes. This year the score is yotes 3 ray 1. I hope to even that up some time but I think they always win. Is this a team effort? I am not a competitive person by nature so if someone on a team needs a handicap I am game. I can shoot straight but sometimes I swear the coyotes hate me. :chuckle:
-
WE need to make it rookies or guys that the dogs hate, with guys who know what they are doing and are getting coyote love. (No, not that kind of love!)
-
8) Ive never shot 1........

just for fun. the last two year's i have went to the predatormaster's hunt in Globe arizona. it's just for funand meet people. last year i went to oklahoma to there hunt. this year they will have a whole motel. it's alot of fun i do it just to meet every one from the internet. should have one westside late nov or early dec. for cat's and coyote's. could have a great hunt at skokomish. lot's of cougar and bocat. and coyote down in the clear cut's. it's at the beginning of hood canal. would be great for the port angelas and seattle guy's. and moses lake or Ellensburg both have alot of predator's. do it in jan. would call more coyote's in i dec less trained one's. Rick

I think that was Muskrat love if I'm not mistaken :P
Good point with hooking up the newbies with the more experienced.
-
a hunting contest permit is needed from the wdfw.
-
I would have a non-profit sponsor the event and get the permit. or have sponsors donate all of the prizes and forgo the entry fees, etc. A permit maybe required still according to new regs. There are lots of yotes in eastern wa. If you pick moses lake most of the public land are wildlife areas which might not be the best place to have a contest. I would say keep it on DNR or private. my two cents
-
I wouldnt mind showing someone a few tricks. I haven't been doing it to long but I had to learn quick what works and what doesnt.
-
I'm not real sure why it has to be a contest :dunno:
Why not just some guys and, gals, if any, getting together to call some coyotes, sit around tell stories and enjoy the company at the end of the day. A good hunt is more fun and no permit is needed.
We could just call it a Ronndevoooo :yike:
-
I'm with you on this FALfire.
-
Id be up for west or east side as well but as said before it might be difficult locating an area over here.
-
I may have some connections in the moses quincy area with some farmers....
-
private land ivnite would be ausome, would be help out farmers as well as having fun. but everyone would have to be respect full of them, and we might get more then jsut 1 invite.
-
The weekend befor or after the Superbowl would work as long as it doesn't coincide with the Warden Coyote Round-up.
The state park at the Potholes Res. stays open all year as does the Mardon Motel and there are plenty of free campsites (no facilities) close to the area. There is plenty of area to hunt, Goyd Seep, Desert Wildlife, Quincy Lakes, Crab Creek and any number of wildlife areas.
AWS
-
Definately not a Contest, and definately do NOT coincide with the Warden Coyote hunt! Good points, fellers!
-
Im game.... ill have to make sure gutpile doesnt shoot them all though ;)
-
The Superbowl is Feb 1st, the Warden Roundup is in March , anyone have a firm date for it? Anyone from the Warden, Othello, Moses Lake area that could find out? If we want to do this lets get the ball rolling.
I suggest just a meet and greet Saterday afternoon and evening, maybe someone could do a skinning demo, a fleshing demo a streching demo, and a couple of calling demmos.
AWS
-
let me know when the hunt is ill be there
-
We're usually hunting coyotes every weekend once rifle deer is over. Count us in.
PS for the guys that don't save the hides there's plenty of us who do. So we'll be happy to take them off your hands. Unless you blow them all to H***. :chuckle:
-
i use the hide
-
After shooting my deer this year I have about 40rd's left I need to use for coyote since I'm going to switch bullets. Do you think that my 200gr silver tips would leave a small hole for you :chuckle: or should I take my AR.
-
Hey folks, new to the area via Texas and anxious to get my sites on a few dawgs. I'm on the wet side but more than willing to head to the dry side for some comraderie and a bit of hunting. Count me in!
-
ITs not a derby so no permit required, but check out the coyote madness thread
-
I would be interested in a meet and great for sure I'm on the west side so I can do that one and if the east side one was on a different date I would try to make it to that I'm learning tips and grounds to hunt so the east side would be good then when I want to go on a road trip I would know of a little bit of area to go to.
