What's everyone's plan for this year?
I most likely will be hunting elk around home. My buddy Jason Stafford is coming out from Wyoming to hopefully check a Roosevelt off of his bucket list (Its going to be tough for him to go from killing 350+ bulls to hoping we find a good 5x5).
Then head to Montana the last week or two of September.
Crossing my fingers for a multiseason to allow me to put in for some good units.
-
I'm lucky enough be invited along with some established elk hunters and will part of their camp. My goal is to watch, help, learn, and if offered a shot on a legal elk to make it count. Thats about it.
-
Solo archery hunting somewhere. Not sure yet of where. Always looking for someone to hunt with and camp with if anyone is interested.
-
ELK BEWARE ! I'm sure to draw a tag !
-
Hopefully draw multi season so i can hunt around home (NE Corner) and with my old man in SW Wash
-
Been planin this year hunt since we left last year! Gots the new Phelps elk from Fred in Virgina to call a bull in for the wifee! If shes lucky to get a bull ill dance a little jig in the Idaho mud. If we still have time left in the hunt and the elk are fired up ill go to town grab a tag and see if we can get a double header! Thats alot to accomplish in two weeks but with lots of planning it can be done! And lots of training! Good luck to all!

pretty much the same plans as you, hope for a multi season tag and go hunt Montana the last two week of sept. :IBCOOL:

-
My plans are to shoot my elk opening morning than help guys with bull permits tag out.
-
Hoping for a multiseason permit to up my odds of filling the freezer. Burned my cow and quality bull points in the last two years, not likely to draw this year. Maybe help a buddy who draws this year?
-
To help my 13 year old daughter get her first Roosie bull with a muzzleloader! I don't care if I get another elk or not, it is all about her from here on out!
-
Will be hunting opening week of archery here in WA and then last 10 days of Archery elk season in Oregon. Already have Eagle Cap wilderness drop camp booked since last year! Also, like everyone else, hoping for a multi-tag here in WA.

Waiting for the MS results to map out my year. Hunt with pianoman for archery. Get my nephew out for his first hunt and hopefully my son for modern elk. Whatever happens i am looking forward to it.
-
Ill put in for multi season permit also.
-
Same plan as usual. Scout and hunt hard over on the OP and find something with 3 points or more. Been fairly successful over the years there. We don't find any wall hangers over there where we are at, but those bulls do go in the freezer just fine.
-
Hunt my wifes blues tag first and then head to Montana for the last half of september .
-
My dilemma is whether to buy an archery tag or a muzzleloader tag. Due to the cost of gas and the fact that my paycheck has decreased yet again this year, I plan to hunt as close to home as possible.
Although I have 8 quality elk points, I'm actually considering only applying for a point this year. :yike: :bdid:
-
I will be chasing an elk during early archery season. My dad has been trying to convince me to put in for the multi season so I can come hunt with him as well if I draw. So, I'm pondering that. Not sure if I want to put out 180 more towards tags.
-
Find one without too bad of hoof rot. :yike:
-
2 weeks in September back coutry camp
2 weeks in idaho
1 week wa rifle an help a buddies try an tag there first bull
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
nothin crazy late season, just day trips...

-
"im also putting in for points..and i have a few more than bobcat"
How many?
-
I'm going to win the lottery and buy the Governor's tag in Utah.
(Do I have to buy a lottery ticket to win?)
-
Charlie, I forgot Kelly and I were putting in as a group. So scratch my original plans because I will be hunting the blues with Mrs. Bucklucky then onto Montucky.
-
"im also putting in for points..and i have a few more than bobcat"
How many?
just checked..only have 9 :bash: is it normal to think you have more than what ya really have ??
do have 12 for moose tho..gona put in for points on that one too
-
I really hope to get h20hunter up close and personal with a couple big eastside bulls come September.
-
I'm headed back to the Bumping to shoot a fat cow with me bow.

-
How many tags you got?
-
None yet
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
-
my dillema will be both moose and quality bull tags , ohwell you only live once !
-
My 7 points won't be anywhere close to enough to hope for a draw tag, so it'll be spikes only in the backcountry for me. Maybe I'll have some horses for backup to be able to hunt wherever the elk are instead of having to draw a line and say that I can't get an elk out alone past here in two days without losing meat, so I can't hunt past that line.
-
My plans will likely be the same, no luck in the draw and not even go.

:yeah:
-
Coach, that would be a terrible thing to have to figure out.
The day is coming when I will put in for eastside permits and hunt Oregon, Idaho or Montana every year until I draw a tag.
-

been that way for several years for me, once I finally draw I'm done with elk in Washington since odds are I will never draw a quality tag again.
-
Hope for the best in the draws and then hunt the Palousaugunt for GIANT bulls.
-
Hunt my guts out trying to kill a bull then shoot my cow last week just like this year! Unless i draw a tag :IBCOOL:
-
My expectation.
-
Going to use my bull points in the Margaret and kill a bull there (since I dont have any quality points), then head to Idaho and kill one with Shane and film him killing one ...and in after that, go after the Sheep that Im going to draw this year.... :chuckle: Why not
-
Take some clients out and whack some big bulls, then do some whackin of my own with my bow.
-
Hunting the alpine first week of season then off to Wyoming for a week and a half hopefully a good season!!
-
Hopefully, fingers crossed I will draw a Utah limited entry elk tag this year. We plan on getting MT combo tags so if no Utah then the last two weeks of September in Montana. I may try and squeeze a few days in here either early or late for a Rosie.
-
Gotta bow for my 12yr son for xmas. Were going to Indian heaven hills for a week. I went there last year for the first time and loved it. Hoping to make it a new tradition.
-
I will first learn I didn't draw for Wyoming, then I'll find out I didn't draw for WA and off to Idaho for our over the counter elk.
-
I'm leaning towards throwing the towel in on Quality Bull. I've got 14 points (15 going into this coming years draws), and am thinking I'm just going to put in as a group with my little sister and girlfriend for Toutle's MF bull tag until we draw. That'll give them a chance to get away from the crowds and take their first bulls, and me a chance to go archery or muzzleloader hunting in the years to come.
-
If you've got 15 points there are all kinds of great tags you could pull.
-
My odds range from 1-6% for tags that I care to draw, and I really really want to hang up this dang rifle. And yes of course I understand that there are better odds archery and muzzleloader tags out there in the quality category, but the greatest hunter in the world can catch a couple bad breaks and have a quality archery or muzzleloader tag go unfilled. I feel 100x more confident in filling my tag on a solid+ bull with a rifle in hand during an exclusive season or in a unit with limited hunters than basically any unit/hunt with 'primitive' equipment. :'(
Not to mention I'd be a great gift for a couple young girls to experience taking an elk!
-
Gotcha, can't fault ya for getting the family involved. If you're not comfortable with the scenario using a bow or muzzleloader then its probably not for you. Can't imagine having 15 points as there are all kinds of tags that take less than that for bow and would be a blast.
-
I have more than a few willing hunting buddies/partners that are more than capable of calling (though I myself am marginal at best!), but the thought of fire danger pinning me out of hunting areas coupled with the fact that a wind swirl or two could cripple precious opportunities has me debating whether roughly 20% of my lifetime applying is worth that risk.
-
- Arizona
- Utah
- New Mexico
- If none of those, maybe Wyoming... or Colorado
-
I'll be archery elk hunting in Washington and Oregon this year.. Fingers crossed.. Good luck to everyone this year.
-
Well after the fire debacle from last year and getting my points back i will have 15 Quality bull points. Pretty sure they will be leading to a chance at a large east side bull as i am giving up on the west side until i draw an east side tag. I also have 15 bull points probably use those on the east side also (who knows)
Taking my 13 year old to spokane looking for a turkey, and hoping he draws something.
Not sure what i will do with my 10 deer points, probably be put into the not selected category.
-
I'll be hunting SW Washington with 3 other friends that have also never hunted elk before. Until then, I plan on scouting the areas I think are good, (2 days every 2 weeks), looking for good sign (whatever that looks like). I will also be reading my eyes out and asking all of the stupidest questions this site has ever seen, on a daily basis. Only like 270 more of those days to go until elk season. With any luck, the questions will get smarter as the time for hunting gets closer.
Speaking of questions, maybe I'll start another thread for this, but why so many people talking about elk hunting outside of wa like its better than here? Someone said "over the counter elk" about idaho? more elk, but smaller maybe? just curious, trying to get into the loop... Also, cow tags? huh? didnt see that on the dfw site, just multi season.

I will be missing the 2013 elk hunting season :'( I will be doing a 9 month OTC hunt in Afghanistan with my new $32 million Longbow. It's custom made by Boeing. :chuckle: I should do pretty well and hope to put a pretty good dent in the ferral swine population over there. :chuckle:
As for 2014 hopefully I draw a quality east side tag. I will have 10 points by then. I will either hunt with a muzzle loader or a bow. Havn't decided yet. Probably with the smoke pole since my chances of getting an elk are way higher. If I don't draw a tag then I will be hunting an archery OTC unit somewhere in Idaho. I've been doing some research but havn't pinned down an exact unit yet. Getting excited for the 2014 hunting season. Only 19 months away. :chuckle:

Good Luck Good Hunting Be Safe Question though do you get to keep track of the swine on the side of that Longbow?

Kill them all, Colok!
(All the bad guys, that is).

Never thought about it. But I am now

I have no plans as my son is moving out of state. We have hunted together since he was 3, he now 33. My heart is not in hunting anymore, I never thought that would happen. So to off set my hunting fix I am looking to get into reined cow horse events. I think that will be a lot of fun. I still apply for spring bear as it is a great time riding our horses and looking for bears. For all you elk hunters,go get em, I will be thinking of you this fall.

If I can get a break between primary and my advanced airframe I'll hopefully do some elk hunting this year. Don't care if it is bow or rifle, I want some hunting out west!
-
My old man and I are trying to decide where we want to chase elk this year. I don't plan on buying an elk tag in Washington for the first time in years. I am not going to buy the multi season deer or put in for any elk special permits so I figure that money I save will pay for a portion of my out of state tag. Going to go for either Oregon, Idaho or Montana.
-
I love your avatar taco. Good luck in primary
-
You flying the Block III package?
-
Nope still rocking the Block II. The only guys that have the Block III are Riley. I heard that Lewis is the next to get them. So food for thought about places to request if you get the Apache.
-
:jacked:
-
Chase em with smoke poles down in south central WA and try to draw a cow tag with my brother and Dad
-
Planning on bowhunting both Washington and Montana if funds allow.
-
My son and myself will be hitting the brush around Goat Mt SW Washington. And see what 14 points can get me.
-
:jacked:
Oops probably won't he the last time I do that :chuckle:
-
My plans are to shoot my elk opening morning than help guys with bull permits tag out.
I'll remember that if I get a tag for my unit. Backcountry packing sucks :)
-
Ill be in the crazy mountains from september through november chasing back country bulls. One will be hitting the dirt this year. Ill probably pick up an OTC cow tag too to get some meat on the ground so I can be a little picky when it comes to bulls.
-
I'm at the mercy of the permit draws.....first being the multiseason.
-
Will hope for a MS tag again, got one last year but did not get drawn for east side, then took my archery bull the second day of the season here on the west side so I never got to try anything else which was fine with me. Would love to try Idaho with my dad and finally get him an elk with his bow but we just have no idea where to go and don't have the years to figure it out so we will probably just go where we normally go here in SW WA and hope for the best.
-
Really hoping to draw Blue Mountains quality bull tag and MS. Already have the entire season scheduled off work and will hunt hard until dark the last day if that's what it takes.
-
My plan is to find out where you hunt and follow you to a big bull :chuckle:
-
Put in for MS tag.
Put in for other tags.
Hope to get drawn and then kill a bull first day of open season.
Worked last year, more luck than skill but they eat good any way you get them :)
Hope to help my son pack out an elk more than anything this year.
-
Well, after I draw my branched bull permit with 1 point I think I will go out and kill me another bull, but bigger this time! :chuckle:
-
kentrek... put in for hangman a for your moose points .. ive been on 2 successful hunts . both on the first day kills . and a buddy of mine took my info and his daughter killed a 52 in bull on the first day. mine was 41 in and my dads was 44 in. a great hunt. i drew it with 3 points. contaqct me if u draw i will give you everything i got on it.
-
Great, now everyone is going to apply.
-
try and draw a cow tag if not hit the hills for mod. firearm season.
-
also as not to jack the thread .. my elk plans are to draw a quality or bull tag and hunt for elk with a multi season tag. if not drawn for those tags , i will go shoot a hoof rot elk with my bow.
-
I'm just going to enjoy having the opportunity to get some time to myself. Last year a friend of mine came out here from PA, and we hunted elk with our bows for 8 days and had about the best hunting trip we ever had. We didn't see any elk either! I learned a long time ago if you take something too seriously (except safety), that somehow the fun tends to fade away from it. However, scouting has already begun for this year.
-
Juggle a newborn, wife and work. Draw a tag in OR, WA or ID. Kill big bull.
-
From what I hear, the Bumping will be open for cows this year so that's where I'll be. Other option would be the Nile.
-
Put in for Archery blues tag or OTC NE WA hunt
Put in for ID LE tag and also buy 2 elk tags in ID
WY points and UT points
-
I got permission to hunt private land this year, so I'm very excited. Will do a bunch of scouting, in preparation of the season.
-
Hopfully draw a any Elk tag in Wyoming and kill my first Wyoming bull. Then draw a quality bull tag in WA. and kill another bull. I will be lucky to draw a any elk tag in Wyoming.
-
I've got a lot of points and haven't been drawn for deer or elk in 12 years. :bash: I'm not giving WA State gov't any more of my $$ other than my general Westside elk tag. Hunting Doty & Pe Ell w/son, son-in-law, & grandson(s).
-

thanks for the tip on hangman
my plan is two years from now try an cash in on my cow moose tag up in the selkirk area and see what the hunting is like up there..my dad seen some monsters up there an his buddy ended up with a 55 incher..dad said he saw one that was easy over 60 :brew:
i think ima have my brother put in for the hangman for his cow so we can scout that as well...not sure if there is a bad unit for moose..seems like there all pretty good :dunno:
im gona save my bull tag for at least another 5 years or more just so i can have more job security an be able to take a month or two off work an see if i cant find a true monster
sorry bout the thread jack
-
switching to archery for elk this year for more of a challenge, and hike back into the back country and check out a few new spots and hope to bag a bull my first year archery. if not it will be a good learning year is the way i look at it :)

colockumelk, you be safe over there, and we will see you in the woods 2014.
Thanks for your service.
-
draw a big bull tag for the east side if I draw multi would be nice or better yet an AZ bull tag would be better! :)
or just otc the westside bulls in Hancock would be nice too!
-
My plans are to put in for all the elk (ghost) points this year and hit the Naselle area. I've found a pretty good area 2 years ago and plan to go back to stick one with an arrow! I have a hunting buddy that I haven't hunted for with a while and he is willing to go and hit a few times with me this year! Good luck all!
-
See if I draw the multiseason tag this year. If not I will be switching to a smokepole and chasing west side bulls in the clearwater unit.
-

Better check the reg's first, there's no muzzleloader season in the Clearwater unit.

Good call. This will be my first muzzy season.
-
Archery elk washington..then boggie to eastern Oregon for their last week.
-
Trying something new......first time in 20 years I will miss Early Archery here and go to Colorado for some Muzzle Bull.
-
I put in for many states and it will all determine what I get drawn for...
