This man, Has balls. Hes doing what allot of us including myself wish they had the will power and sheer determination to attempt what most people wouldn't. If you have never seen/heard of this man/video. Its about 2 1/2 hours long. Take the time when you have it available and sit down to witness this. Great video, 45 minutes in and I honestly cant shut it off. Cheers everyone, Hope you enjoy and it gives you some modivation to achieve things you may think un-doable.
He has bare minimum knowledge on outdoor survival.

The guy lost me when he started balling 20 minutes in.
When the plane flew over? Lost me too.
I'd still be on cloud nine at the whole adventure, and I'd be busier than a two tailed beaver :chuckle:

Hes not a woodsman, a survial expert, or a hunter.
Hes your average guy trying to see if he has what it takes. Really guys? gonna bash him already. Give the guy some credit.

and If you cant respect a mans effort, then I cant respect you.

Yep....out there less than a week at that point...it's going to be a long three months for this guy......pretty sure he will cry uncle before it's over if he is crying like a baby in the first week.

Didn't he say he climbed Everest? Did you see all that gear? the guy is hardly roughing it and he isn't exactly a complete greenhorn.

So being a hiker makes him an expert at surviving in the woods? No one said hes a greenhorn, but hes not your average bear grylls either.
Obviously if you plan on living in the woods for a few months your going to go prepared.
All Im saying is give the guy credit. Hes achieving life goals.

If he makes it the full time I will give him credit otherwise he just gets partial credit :chuckle:. Sorry, but in the real world not everyone gets a medal just for signing up...you have to make it to the finish line and sometimes you have to be the first few to cross that line.... One time I decided to do a 100K trail ultra marathon with no training...just to see if I could do it... I made it 85K and I was mentally and physically destroyed... I didn't finish.... I didn't get credit...only thing I ever quit at in my life but it didn't matter... I was a quitter... that's life... :twocents: ...But I didn't ball like a baby....felt like it though.. :chuckle:

climbing "Everest" was a metaphor for what he had accomplished over the summer..keep track of the dates
hes not completely green..you can tell that how he moves
he doesn't know how to cook fire food worth a darn tho :puke:

Lol naw no medal. Just a pat on the back. I hope one day I have the balls to head out for even a week on my own. Goodjob bro for attempting it "The marathon" Id never be able to do even what you did. . See how easy that is? haha
Hes in the middle of canadas wilderness. With no one else. Its harsh on your mentality man. I did notice he has a "SPOT" on his shoulder though. Dont think I would have attempted what he is without one myself.
And you didnt get credit, because there was TONS of people doing it. Its a marathon.
There isnt 100 people who go out into absolute remote wilderness at a time. and Looks for a finish line. I havent finished the video but hes made it a month. Its rough yeah. Its a sense of being out of your comfort zone. I dont think he does this on a reguler basis like your average TV stars do.

:chuckle: I just returned from the field today (albeit wasn't that tough of living at this point in my life)... This is what I do:
NRA Life of Duty SERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yBvyPU5bdw#ws)
Some of these guys in this video are trainees and haven't or didn't make the cut. We have two classes a year... this past summer we graduated zero with 60 that started (that doesn't count all the guys that tried selection and failed to make the first cut). This course is six months... the current class started with 62 the first week of January..as of this morning I believe they had 22 left..... Probably less than that tonight.
So yeah...I say that in my nice warm home.

Lol I wasnt trying to bash YOU brotha. I was just teasin. Props to whatever you do thats wilderness related. Im a bum, and its extremely depressing. Cabin fever has hit me hard very hard. I live half way in a city with the wilderness just outside my grasp. I would love nothing more then to attempt to live in the wild for even a short amount of time.

But just because your as strong, or stronger then this guy or other individuals doesn't mean you have to be negative and be like "oh well in Vietnam I slept 4 nights in a row with agent orange along side orangutans. lol Ya get what I'm sayin? Show support for people that actually try. Its about being positive, Not knocking someone because they don't live up to YOUR abilities.

I wouldn't attempt this without a sat phone or satcom signaling device device either...but knowing I have that would make me feel much less isolated.
I'm not saying the guy doesn't have some mettle...I'm just saying if he is crying from the isolation in a week he isn't going to make it three months....that is some pretty severe psychological duress he is feeling if he is that upset in the first week... he also seems far too freaked out about bears to make it three months without cracking... If he climbed Everest I am sure the guy is tough as nails.

If we want to start compairing life I lived in a maximum security prison for upwords of 3 years not knowing what was around every corner. Theres people who want you dead just because you want no part of them. Skinheads for example. Im not a racist, Nor will I ever be. I was 20 years old and had problems right from the get-go, You have no friends, No family, Nobody to comfort you, Its one of the most caustic enviornments I can think of. I lived in a 5x6 cell for 3 months on administrative segregation and never got let out unless it was for a shower, Which you get twice a week. No sunlight, No windows.
You get fed RAW potatos and bread. We can all say "oh were tough" but every situation is different.

IF he climbed everest. I dont know the man so I don't know his experiences. But I do notice that he seems like his knowledge is somewhat limited, He knows more then me. But that's not saying much. The only caustic experiences I've had in life are prison, and my own downfalls. Nothing like him. Hes inspiring. Makes me want to just disappear into the woods and try to live off the land. Cheers to you man, Not trying to create an argument. Just gotta take things for what they are, Hes alone, for months, with no one. That's gotta be hard for ANYONE. People have evolved to be dependant somewhat on other people.
My hats off to you man for anything you do. Ill be one of the few that will show support, In any situation. Because lifes rough. Anyone who says its not is a effin lier.

:chuckle: I didn't take it like you were bashing me...just adding some of my background to my outlook on this guys attempt at three months in the wild... what I saw in that first 20 minutes tells me he probably can't do it.....the isolation is already getting to him and his adventure has just started...not a good sign. I would be shocked if he makes it three months with all of the other psychological factors that are going to come into play over that period of time.

Nice oberservation man, Its harder for some people then for others. I myself, Know I can be alone with not much of a problem "Being stripped from family in friends" But not quite sure how I would take it being stripped from humanity period. Its something I would like to experience atleast once.

That's a rough life for sure. Part of my job is teaching people how to survive captivity. I have never had to do it in real life... I hope I never have to either. We use role play...far from the real thing...but not a fun experience. That being said I have researched captivity extensively (16+ years) and spoken, read and listened to many prisoners of war, hostages and governmental detainees. I can certainly understand the challenges.

:chuckle:
If he climbed Everest I am sure the guy is tough as nails.
he never climbed Everest lol the show started off at the end of August with him telling about how he hit his own metaphoric Everest and then the show goes back to the very begging
seclusion is tougher than us all
Nice oberservation man, Its harder for some people then for others. I myself, Know I can be alone with not much of a problem "Being stripped from family in friends" But not quite sure how I would take it being stripped from humanity period. Its something I would like to experience atleast once.
I just looked the guy up... won't mention what happens in this show as I know some people don't want a spoiler. :chuckle:.... but..he did actually climb Everest....twice

That's a rough life for sure. Part of my job is teaching people how to survive captivity. I have never had to do it in real life... I hope I never have too either. We use role play...far from the real thing...but not a fun experience. That being said I have researched captivity extensively (16+ years) and spoken, read and listened to many prisoners of war, hostages and governmental detainees. I can certainly understand the challenges.
So your a teacher, in sense? Where do you do all that at? Ive been wanting to take a primitive survival class for awhile now. I want to know what I can and cannot eat in the wild. How to identify and track animals. Etc.
-
The guy lost me when he started balling 20 minutes in.

Huge accomplishment, Im going to summit St Helens this spring! Cant wait, Going to be one of my largest achievments In my life to that moment.

Well, I took him as an actor with that crying and bumbling around.
Honestly, I think he's probably got a lot more going on than he shows on film. It would be a boring show if he were an expert huh?
This is reality TV - and it's got to have some drama.
So the crying, and him portraying himself as a greenhorn is just for TV viewers. He's got a well laid out plan and knows what he's doing.
-
But just because your as strong, or stronger then this guy or other individuals doesn't mean you have to be negative and be like "oh well in Vietnam I slept 4 nights in a row with agent orange along side orangutans. lol Ya get what I'm sayin? Show support for people that actually try. Its about being positive, Not knocking someone because they don't live up to YOUR abilities.
I'm not even sure I could make it because I never tried...(though I do know I wouldn't be crying because I miss my mommy the first week..I would at least wait until day eight :chuckle:).....In reality...not really trying to knock the guy...just saying he lost me when he did that so early because I feel like if I were to continue watching I will see him fail (I'd rather see him succeed)...either that...or he is being overly dramatic to hollywood it up a little bit which doesn't interest me either.... getting ready to watch that second guy...hope he is better.

Theres always going to be people who believe in that. None the less. AGAIN, hes an inspiration. I take it for what I see, not for what "I think" is going on. Because Ive been there. Just days away from family with absolutely no grasp on whats going on. Horribly destroyed because I couldnt see them If I wanted.

:yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:
Yep...saw this after i posted my most last comment...and I agree...he is doing that or he is arleady cracking which means he will fall short of his goal

Actually..your situation was much harder...all this guy has to do is make a call on his sat phone (I'm making an educated guess that he has one) and they will have him out of there pronto.

I summited Mt Rainer, does that count?
Rode right to the top on my snowmobile :chuckle:

Lol not sure why that post actually made me smile from ear to ear but man. Some people take it harder then others. I know I was messed up for the first week of my incerceration, after that I dont have the mindset to even think about anyone or anything else but where Im at. I live with depression specialy this time of year, I get sad and cry over *censored* like "Not being able to leave, because my car doesnt have a working heater" Like... lol wtf? I can fully understand if a dudes crying a few days or a week out. Guess Im a softy or whatever you want to call it. But EVERYONE is different.

Harder, easier. Dont know, Some people will say its EASY because you get three meals a day and a place to sleep. That dont mean SQUAT to me. People dont relize how petrifying it can be behind the walls. I was sent to walla walla state penitentory at 20. Got into fights, threatend to be stabbed a few times. When I was in solitary confinement I lived 2 wings away from the green river killer "gary ridgeway" or however you spell his name. Ive been among some of the most violent people our state has to offer. My celly for 6 months was dominique maldinado. The tacoma mall shooter. and In all reality, he SEEMED like a good guy. A good guy doing 163 years or something. He ceased to be my celly when 2 correctional officers placed broken razor blades under his bunk. "When you live with someone you know" I know, he didnt have them there. Dunno; worlds crazy. Im kind-of on a half 3 beer drunken rant now lol.
Man prison was crazy. Dont ever go there haha
-
I can understand going through bouts of depression in captivity and bouncing back. What this guy is doing is difficult but doesn't hold a candle to being held captive....this guy is free and one day of freedom is always better than one day of captivity. :twocents:

Absolutely beautiful. Thats the stuff I strive for, You dont get to see that just sitting on your butt everyday "even though I just did". I guarantee that picture does NO justice to what you actually get to see. Thanks for the photo man.
Heres a video from last weeks hike, not sure if you, or who seen it.
Was one of my favorites besides rattlesnake ledge so far.

Devin the dude! He has such a relaxed voice. Ill listen to mr bobby. Thanks for the feedback. I listen to everything but country. Mostly symponetic alternative like Lindsey Stirling. Shes one of my favorites right now. Pure talent.
-
Dang - I had no idea I could run up there, thought that was all off limits.
I was there maybe 5 years ago, but then I had a whole pack of kids and other folks with me so I wasn't able to do much for hiking. I got a mile or so back and the whining started :dunno:
Now I gotta go back
Think they'd let me ride my snowmobile to the top  :chuckle:

This has to absolutely be one of my favorite songs out right now.
It puts me in this euphoric state. My largest goal in life right now is to be a wingsuit flyer which I WILL achieve, This year marks the start of a new life. Hunter/Wingsuit Flyer.
This song has been one of the most related songs to proximity wingsuit flying.
Ultimetly I will travel to norway and grind "the crack" like jeb corliss.

Proximity flying is awesome to watch but I have never really felt the desire to give it a go and now that I have kids I definitely don't have that desire...I have a couple hundred jumps... it is a lot of fun but it never caught on with me to the point that I wanted to pursue it as a major hobby.

This summer will be the beginning of me seeking the goal. If I feel the same way you do I will cease to continue with that goal but it gives me chills to even think about it.
Cant think of anything more "free" then human flight. Going to master tracking before I ever get my wingsuit.

The guy lost me when he started balling 20 minutes in.
Me too. Get a grip little fella

I didn't know you were involved with Sere training DB. Thats cool. I ran around alot in that country (Flowery Trail, Cusick and Usk). Its a good spot for it. I knew one instuctor in the program. He got transfered to Europe, Britian I think. I was his wifes instructor at the hospital here, so I didn't know much about him.

I enjoy it very much and love the country we work in. We have a small career field so I probably know the SERE guy you are talking about.

Cool DB, just watched a vid on the training to become an instructor. Definitely not a job for the uncommitted, kudos..
-
well, i watched the whole thing. thought it was a cool vid. interesting to see how the mental aspect played out. we couldnt help but laugh at his plight as he was crying then laughin and back to crying. we thought he kind of got shorted by not getting to eat any big game when there was plenty of oportunity for it..

Haha. You get some mixed emotions watching your float plane fly away from you 90 miles away from the nearest person or town. Try it sometime.
That being said, I can't say that's have or would cry about it.

Absolutely totally friggin weak. I dont feel bad for him since Ed is a neutered subject of the crown. This is how the elites of our nation want US to be; completely unable to rise up to the challenges of just surviving day to day. I was disgusted to my core when i first saw this. I actually felt bad for my heritage. You SUCK Ed! Put me in the same place, same time of year, with the exact same equipment and resources ole eddy boy had and see the difference.
