Title: Crappie
Post by: stvnsnwdy on February 09, 2013, 04:09:33 PM
Fairly new to the area and learned alot about the great northwest fishing. I miss the midwest fishing. Are their any crappie in this state. If so what is the prime time to catch a mess of them around here.

Prime time is coming up soon.  March should be one of the better months down at Silver Lake in Cowlitz county.  Duck lake over at Ocean Shores has a good population of crappie.  Probably is some in Spanaway Lake, but I haven't fished there.

Fishing is better on the east side of the state for Crappie.  Potholes and Moses Lake to name a couple. :twocents:

Not positive but pretty certain that there are not any in Spanaway. Lakes that I am almost 100% sure have Crappie around here are, as mentioned Silver Lake in Cowlitz County (9" min. size limit), Tanwax (9" min. size limit), Kapowsin, Alder, I think I heard Riffe does.

 Hey, here ya go:

You can check for yourself. Read the "info" link on the lakes and be sure to check regulations, though, as there are some bodies of water around that have the 9" min. Crappie.

 Good luck!

I see your in graham.  Try Alder lake.  Good for crappie and yellow perch.  As far as timing I usually hit it when the weather warms up.

I fished Silver one time like three years ago. I caught a bunch of little Crappie, 6 or 7 inchers. I seen a boat anchored out there with two guys in it pulling in a crappie at least every 40 or 45 seconds, no matter what the size the fish stayed in the boat. They had to of caught at least 50 fish in the short time I was near them and none were released, that I saw.

I was bass fishing as I heard it was a great lake. I think I got skunked and never went back.

I used to catch crappie in Chambers Lake in Lacey...............but that was in the 80's.  Don't know if there is still a good population in there.

A lot of the lakes around here have rock bass, which are similar to crappie. Or at least they used to. I really haven't fished those lakes in over 20 years.

WA st record came out of Lake Washington - I believe some guys do well on Lake Union for them as well.  Tried the Lake Union fishery once, didn't connect.  :dunno:
