Right now i currently have the 2200 but looking for something a little bigger. My concern is hauling meat/head out. The 2200 has a external meat shelf which i like. While the 2800, people seems to be using the flaps and straps. Will there be room in the 2800 for a bull head?

I just ordered the 2800, I should get it in a couple days. I read a bunch of reviews and YouTube videos, I decided it was a good choice. Some people yarded out quartered elk with the head/rack strapped to the back. I guess time will tell if it works for me...

You should be able to figure out how to strap it one there. I've packed out a boned out mule deer and the head with the 2800. I always keep a few extra compression straps on my pack for lashing things down tight.
The 2800 is a pretty solid and versatile pack. I felt like 60-65 pounds was the limit where it started to get uncomfortable.

I have packed out numerous elk quarters and heads with my 2800 over a distance of up to 5 miles. I pack extra cording to secure the load. It will get it done with very heavy loads...as I doubled up once on 2 fronts, but heavy loads are a hurt locker in the making, anyway you slice it. I have had some issues with my zippers breaking ( just tied in 550 cord) and the occasional buckle ( the small ones). I called Badlands and they send me a crap load of extra buckles in all sizes so I do carry those also, just in case i have a problem. If you unzip the bottom compartment and allow the end of the quarter to fit inside, it acts like a meat shelf and will completely help stabilize your load once you ratchet it down. Definitely would recommend as a quality choice.

If you get a 2800 will you be keeping your 2200 also? I have a 2800 that I am wanting to downsize to a better daypack.

I haven't put an Elk on it yet but have had two boned out Deer and heads on it. The bat wing design easily lets you strap a head or bag of meat on, in fact I really like how I could get the weight strapped on and have it stay there.
Good pack, I really like it.

It seems to be a really sturdy pack, thanks for the pic broken arrow... im still debaiting and doing some research. but if i do get a 2800 my 2200 is gonna go to my hunting partner, help save him some cash.. but like i said im debaiting, was out today w/ the 2200 and had me reconsidering. :chuckle:

agree with the buckle comment, straps.....no way....rock solid in the stitching compartment. In our camp we have 3 2800's, 1 4500 and 1 Eberlestock. The just 1 pack has had some of the same issues. It all comes down to customer service and warranty to me. However I agree completely, tons of good packs on the market...its a ford/chevy/dodge thing in my opinion.

if you decide on the 2800 shoot me a pm. I could let mine go for a decent deal. It shows some wear and has been repaired once but still functions as normal.

tell me about customer service 6 mi away from the rig with a elk..I want a pack where I dont EVER need to call customer service. Ill take a mystery ranch,kifaru or eberlestock any day

Got my new 2800 the other day...unfortunately it didn't fit me around the waist. The belt was adjusted to the MAX and it was still too big. My waist is 31-32. So just keep that in mind. I had to send mine back. :'(

I have a 2800 (older model) and it fits my 30in waist perfect. My dad has the newer model and it also fits fine but not by much. I think they have different sizes???
I love mine. It's very versatile and easily carries as much as a man wants to.
This is a deer and a 5 days camp.

I like my 4500 for packing in and out, but the 2800 is a nice day pack though I did pack in the first year with the 2800, just had to make some resupply trips.

I have a 4500 as well for the trips that my wife goes. I ahve to carry half of her stuff as well as mine. I can make the 2800 work fine for at least 5 days. I could probably even bring less stuff. the 2800 is the go to because once I'm back there I can use it as a day pack if I want. It gets almost as small as the 2200 but expands to way bigger. I have no use for a 2200.
Try to search around for the older style 2800... not as many zipper/buckle issues.

I like my 2800 a lot. I modify everything I use but have not had any issues with buckles and definitely not with the straps. My older one fits my 32" waist fine.
