Anyone put in for the Utah draw? I'm in for limited deer and elk and points for a few other things. Not even gonna waste my time crossing my fingers and hoping this year.
-
Every year.
-
Going to put in this week. for deer and Antelope. Couple more years before I can put in for elk again.
-
Everything but Antelope
-
Yup. anyone know the order of draw for the OIL tags? I found everything else
-
The basic big game drawing sequence
The big game drawing offers multiple types of permits but limits an applicant to drawing one once-in-a-lifetime or one limited-entry permit per year. Because of this, the drawing order may be important to you. The permit selection process follows the basic order listed in Utah Administrative Rule R657-62-19:
1.Buck deer (premium limited-entry, limited-entry, CWMU and management buck deer)
2.Bull elk (premium limited-entry, limited-entry and CWMU)
3.Buck pronghorn (limited-entry and CWMU)
4.Once-in-a-lifetime
5.Youth general buck deer
6.General-season buck deer
7.Youth any bull elk
For many hunters, knowing that general season permits are drawn after the limited-entry and once-in-a-lifetime permits is good enough. For others, it may helpful to know that limited-entry is considered before once-in-a-lifetime. Whatever your goal, know that the drawing is complicated and there are situations in which a permit may be drawn unexpectedly.
This is all I could find. Maybe you can draw all of the OIL tags in the same year? :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
-
I'm pretty sure once you draw one on the list that you are done drawing for the year. I could be wrong though and I don't know if that applies to drawing a oil then a general permit
-
Bigshooter that "" is what I found from Utah too. I guess I just apply and don't worry about it but it sure would be nice to know it would have and effect on how I apply. Thanks for looking
-
I'm in for sheep, elk, deer & speed goat. I almost applied for South Slope Diamond Mtn for deer which I could draw w/ 11 pts but last minute switched back to Book Cliffs which may still take a few yrs. Hoping for a random draw tag. Good Luck all!
-
I was successful for limited entry deer and elk!!!
-
Congrats to you Phelps! Best of luck on your hunts!
-
My first year, I'll be in.
-
Just for points
-
In for a few things but not counting on drawing although I am up to seven points in some categories
-
I have 8 or 9 points... Still not enough for a good unit.
-
Elk, deer and sheep for me.
-
I'm in!
-
I am going to start in utah as well. How many choices do you get on the app?
-
Utah goes first choice first, until everyone is done.
-
Once drawn, you are done, or is that NM. Its Utah. This state could do that
-
Oh cool thanks for the info. I am doing nex mexico this year as well. I am young so I figure If I start now I might get a couple tags before I kick the bucket :chuckle:
-
In for New Mexico too. If I were an out of State hunter I would be putting in for NM since they have no points system. Although they went and severely limited out of state tags a couple years back.
-
I am in with 11 points for elk, moose and desert bighorn and 4 deer points. I should have a pretty good shot at an archery elk tag I hope.
-
I hit the lottery and drew a Wasatch Mts moose tag with three points in 2010, so I'm done with that. In for everything else except points only for general deer and antelope. I thought a few folks were going to shoot me over my luck in that moose draw.
-
I'm in for everything with 4 points on most but 14 points on deer & bison. Once I spend the deer points I think I'm done with Utah, got a bison in Wyoming already and my Utah bison odds get worse the more points I get, less than 1% now, just cant justify it for the odds.
-
Done.
Deer
Antelope
Sheep
Mountain Goat

Soccerguy, how was the moose hunt?
-
I'm all in.....again. :(

Soccerguy, how was the moose hunt?
Well, it was very short. I went self guided with a friend of mine. A month before the season, I flew to Salt Lake City and scouted the area for three days with a friend from the Provo area who is a sheep guide who knows the unit real well. The only moose we saw was a 40" bull and he asked me if that one would be big enough. I looked at him for a while and decided he would be. A month later, on opening day of the season, we want back to the same area. We passed on two small bulls the first five minutes of daylight but spotted a much larger bull about an hour later. A closer look revealed that it probably was the same bull from a month earlier, or his twin brother. Two shots later and the hunt was over. In fact, he was exactly 40" wide, but not tremendous paddles...OK for point length. I was prepared to hunt much longer but the advice I got from others who had hunted that unit said that a bull of this size was a shooter unless I was prepared to wander into the more remote, rugged areas of the unit (and there are some).

Can't complain about a 40" on the first day . I have quite a few moose points in UT but have heard mixed reviews on the few units that non residents can put in for.
-
I am in for Wasatch. I don't do the private land thing.
-
I did elk and deer but I only have 4 point
