Post by: WCTaxidermy on February 24, 2013, 08:25:31 AM
Here is a Mandarin I just got mounted up on Friday and is currently drying.  Sorry for the tape and pin's but thought I would share anyway.  Thanks everyone.  Alyssa

I'm not really a bird guy but this is one of the most beautiful mounts I've seen of any animal. It's a true honor to the species.

Was that a wild bird? I see it has it's toenails still, but could be a taxi trick :)

Nice job Alyssa.  We shot one on the Chehalis about 14 years ago, it acted just like the woodies.  As far as I know, it's still in the taxidermist's freezer (he was the shooter).   :bash:

I've never heard of the mandarin.  Where do they usually live/nest?  you have some more info on them? Very beautiful mount/duck.

It's an Asian wood duck. They have been raised in captivity and of course some escape, so there is a wild population, but still very rare. Farm ducks useualy have their nails clipped.
