Has anyone used this system or have a scope with the turrets on it? I handload for my Weartherby's, have excellent data, and think I'm going to send in VX-3 in and have a turret done for my .340. looking for any input or experience. Thanks in Advance!

I put a Leupold 4.5-14 X 50 CDS on the rifle i bought for my bison hunt, a Savage 116 Bear Hunter in .338 Win Mag. I love it, works great, will be my go to elk rifle now. Have not got to really put it to its potential yet though, bison was one shot at 50 yards.

I love it. I was playing with my 220 swift and dialed it to the yardage and just started whacking the gong at 400 with a dead on hold. I have one on my .243 as well. Looking at a an elk rifle and will outfit it with one too.
You'll need your speed, bullet ballistic co-efficient, weight, elevation, temp. Theyll ask these questions when you order the turret.

I have one on my .300 win mag. I hand loaded my ammo as well. Works great! Just make sure you send them all the right info.

Scope is gone and being done, hope to see it in the next month. I'll get to use it this year on elk and mule deer. I don't normally shoot over 400 yards, and only with a solid rest. Will be nice to use it under those yardages. The load I have is very accurate and carries great energy out to 700-800 yards, not that I'd ever shoot that far. Thanks to everyone that posted.

i have one on a 300wsm...i love it but have not sent it in for a permanent load...i feel like i hunt to many elevations through out the year and end up with new loads every year also
charts are pretty fast and cheap, il know spot on where my bullet is going to land

Exactly the same thoughts I have. I hunt WA, ID, and CO. Elevations anywhere from sea level to 7500', and temperatures from 65-70 degrees to as low as 5 to 10 below. Waaay to much variation for me to lock into a single turret.

I agree on hunting different places, but my deer and elk take place at similar elevations and mostly colder temps. Inside of 500 yards, the changes are slight. Couple inches in either direction won't make much difference on an elk or deer. I too have a couple loads I use, but also have a few guns to use. This is my primary "hammer" gun, bears, moose, elk and is usually a short shot. Just want to have it setup in case I want a long poke.

I run turrets on all my longer range guns. I just got a new set and load for my 340.

What's your long range load for the .340? I use a Barnes 185 TTSX with Reloader 22. It's a great round and getting around 3400 FPS out of. Very tight groups too.

My gun seems to like bigger slower bullets. I am running the 225g accubond at 2800fps.I can drive it much faster, but my groups open up. With a dial you don't have to worry about shooting super flatwhen you are going to adjust for drop and windage anyways.

True, my other load is a 250 grain partition with Reloader 19 at about 2600 fps. It shoots well too, gun isn't picky about bullet weight. I'll see how the turret works out and maybe get a second?? Nice to see another Weatherby 340 out there, sure been a great round for me, if you don't mind a little kick.

I am a big 340wby buff and love mine. Mine is a semi custom turned full custom with the 8.5-25 leupold with custom reticle and of course the dials. Jewel trigger and hs stock. I have a excellent brake on mine and it kicks some where around a 7mm. Yet it is very very loud to say the least. My other load was a 200 at 3100fps and I shot it twice last year in cali on snap shots. Hurt my hearing doing that and being stupid. I carry muffs but don't like to ware them until I set up for a shot.

Sounds like a sweet setup. Mine is a Sako AV, trigger has been done, but the gun came from the custom shop. It's 10+ years old, but shoots nice. The brake is loud, but helps. Like you, I dislike muffs, so remember to hunt with a hat over my ears. It packs a great punch for the bigger game. I'm working on my .257 mag now. Stock, trigger, bedding.......

Yep mine is a sako action as well, with a Krieger barrel.

No you do not but turrets are a much better way to go. You don't have to count clicks. Also you don't have to look at a sheet or carry a card. All the info is already on the dials. So you just have to judge wind and turn your dials.

Here is a picture of the dials on my 340wby. Mine starts at 100, you can have them made to start with your zero at 200 if you want. As you can see there is a mark for different yardages. You just turn your dial to your range. These are the target dials. The cds dials are smaller.

They can actually be zeroed at any range that you want. I usually go with a 250 or 300 yard zero so I can get to 800 yards in a spin.

Yes indeed. Mine goes to I think 650 on one spin. I do hunt with the rifle and shoot it at fairly close ranges at time. So that is why I went with just a 100 yard zero/first mark.

Are you guys just using regular vx3's or are ya using the vx3 LR.

I am using the LR. All 6.5-20x50. Tough to beat that scope. I have NF as well, but the Leupold LR is much lighter than the NF. A plus on some of my mid-weight rifles.

Mine are the 6.5-20x50 LR and the 8.5-25x50 LR. I also have them on a couple black guns with the mark ar dials. You can have the standard scopes converted by sending them in to leupold. The dials are like 60.00, not sure what the fee is to have them upgraded to take the turrets. I have never done that to any of mine. If you want one right out of the box to take turrets get the cds or lr/target models.

The NF was my first choice for my 1000 yrd gun but they are almost 1lb heavier then the Leupold. Cant have that one a light weight rifle.

Just sent my Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x50 in to have them install the CDS adjustment with BDC dial. Was told it was about a 3 week turn around. Next will be a Rangefinder with angle compensater. Looking forward to trying some long range shooting.
