Got my antlers back finally. Would like to have it scored if anyone knows how to do that in the Tacoma area.
I am also into suggestions on how to better display the antlers.

Wow. Nice buck! For hanging I've just been using L hooks( like a small lag bolt bent into an L. Get them at hardware store) Similar to what you have there but shaped like an L. Screw hook in a stud and place skull over the L hook with the spinal cord hole coming down over the hook and up into the brain cavity. Holds the skull out at a better angle for viewing. Some companies sell some other hangers too. but this works too. You can modify that hook if you want it to go up into the skull further if you like, but I haven't had any issues, with them coming off. Scoring? If you just want it scored I could do that for you, ( I'm up near Maple Valley) If it's big enough to go in the book I can get an official measurer to measure it for you. Not sure it would make book if you shot it with a rifle. Give me a call if you like. (425) 433-0231 Thanks, Rick @ Cedar River Taxidermy

I like that idea Rick, never thought of that before I will have to look for some of those hooks I have a couple elk I'd like off the floor.

If you have a bit of woodworking talent and a plaque of some fashion is a thought, you could pillage an idea to start from here:

Very nice buck, BTW!!! :)

Quite frankly, a set of antlers like that really don't need any help being displayed. IMO the dressing some folks put on them are distracting. Those babies make a statement

I agree bone, I started to quit making fancy plaques, sometimes less is more. A Skull Hooker is a decent option but I'm not a huge fan of them anymore either.

Dont touch it. Looks great right there

Going to have to get a bigger hook for an elk but it might work, haven't tried it on an elk yet. On a deer it puts the skull at about a 45 degree angle coming off the wall. I like that better than hanging straight down.
-
The deer sized skull hooker would work. They aren't the heaviest duty things, but they work ok. I like how you can tilt them up so they aren't hanging straight down. That is an awesome buck by the way. Congratulations.

That's a beast of a deer
Nice
-
He is a dandy! I like it just the way it is. Maybe if anything a skull hooker or something like that. To get it to sit at a little more of a angle rather then flat to the wall.
-
this might work its what i have on my whitetail
-
Sneakyjake - that's a real good looking Euro mount. Love the contrast between the white skull and the big, dark antlers.
Very cool.

What I started doing was mounting them on driftwood pieces that I find at the lake. It looks pretty cool and you don't see them displayed very often that way. Congrats again a awesome buck.

Thanks for the advise guys. My wife liked it more with out the plaques behind it so I tried to imitate the angle of the skull hooker with a lag bolt and it worked good. It is subtle, but I think it made all of the difference for presentation. I have made numerous calls to local people about getting scored for WA and havn't had any luck. I didn't realize if someone scores for say SCI, it doesn't translate to the other record books. Hey, I don't care if I am #50 in WA, I just want to see where he falls in the pecking order. Plus it will be my 2 secs of fame.

 Perfect.

Well, I feel stupid now that I have been properly edumacated. I did not know that a typical deer is a 4pt with eyeguards and that my 5pt doesn't count for diddly squat under WA records. I don't get, but I am still very happy with my deer. I guess there is no reason to get it measured. Does anyone know the history of why a typical is only 4pts?
-
Still one heck of a buck and he still might make it in the book even with the deductions.
Mule deer antlers bi fork, meaning they come off the skull and after the eye guard they fork, then each one of those beams, fork again, and a typical mule deer is a four point with eye guards.
Score or making the book isn't the most important thing in my book, a big mature deer like that is a trophy to anyone. He's one heck of a deer. Not too many people would pass him up! nice job.

Nice looking deer.

Yeah, Jeff. You definitely should have passed on that buck. ;-)
Shoot me a text some time. I'd like to stop by and see that in person!

That right there is what haunts my dreams months before deer season. Really great buck, and top-notch display. I really dig a clean euro mount with dark antlers like that.
