Alright, mark your calendars folks! We are all set for hosting a BBQ this summer!
When: June 29th, feel free to arrive anytime after 10:00 am. Later arrivals are welcome as well of course, as we are planning on an all-day picnic and BBQ type thing.
Where: Outside Granite Falls. If you are planning on attending, pm me and I'll send you my address and phone #.
The Plan: Potluck-style get together. This event will be family friendly, so kids and S/O's are absolutely welcome! Please post up what you think you will bring food-wise and when you plan on arriving so we can keep the feed trough full! Of course, game meat and home grown fruits and veggies are awesome, and maybe we will get lucky and someone will have a spring bear to share!
Other stuff: There will be an archery range available, and I will have archery tic-tac-toe, archery poker, and "Dartchery" (darts, but with bows and a big@$$ dartboard) ready to go. There will be a campfire after dark in the evening, so bring lawn chairs! Anyone wanting to stay overnight is welcome, I can put up a few folks on couches and floors and there is plenty of room for tents outside. If you are travelling a long ways or sip a few too many beverages, please take me up on this and leave when it's safe for everyone!
Still Needed: Ideas for games and contests, if people want to. 3 legged races, frisbee, water balloon toss, stuff like that. Not everyone can compete in the D-Rock toss. Also, prizes for said games.
I will be updating this post as needed with attendees, events, and all that good stuff. Let me know who's in, and your thoughts on games/prizes/whatever. Alright, who's in? :IBCOOL:  :hello:
-
Rasbo's been hosting the HuntWA BBQ for the last 4 years. He'd said he wanted to do it again this year at his new place. Do you want to get in touch with him about this?
-
The catfish trip is also in June :dunno:

uh.... oops? Well dang, no one mentioned that in the other threads where we talked about this get together. Wasn't trying to step on any toes.

I think its a good idea to start a northend bbq.
-
Is there such a thing as to many get together/BBQ's??
-
Damn, I'm getting married that weekend. I wonder if she'd be willing to move it back a week? :yike: :bdid: :chuckle: :chuckle: I'll see you all at the crab outing on July 20.
-
Well be wherever, whenever. :chuckle: bring on the bbq/outings.
-
Ripper just get married at the BBQ :dunno:

Sounds like a good time.

Okay, I talked to Rasbo, and due to being waaayyy too busy, he will not be hosting a bbq this year. He also said that, although a funny looking guy, he is very, VERY handsome when standing next to pianoman9701. He said to let everyone know he is still alive, but won't be near a computer or anything for another month or so.
Pman, thanks for the heads up and for putting me in touch with Rasbo. I'm glad everything seems to be working out.
So, the bbq is on, who's in? By my count, Camo Queen has to show because she is bringing chili. Russ Mcdonald has to show because he is MC'ing the event. Buckmark has to show because he is bringing the cow. D-Rock has to show because people are throwing him. H2Ohunter has to show because he wants to drive the tractor. Lokidog has to show because he wanted to volunteer my place before I did. Goldeneye has to show, with or without a javelin, because the downrigger ball toss was his idea. Eli346 has to show because I'm within 150 miles of Olympia. Cascade Fisher has to show because he said he would and if you say you will then you have to so there! Double J has to show to run the first aid booth. Carl has to show because he is singing the National Anthem before we begin. Smossy has to show because yes, wives are absolutely welcome. Maligator has to show because June.
Who else?
-
MCing really how did I get roped into that :dunno: i don't remember saying i would do that...but I am in for sure. The wife and I will be there. Pending that I am not on a fire somewhere in the country side.
-
Any discussion of doing regional events/picnics all on the same day? Like south Puget sound, SW Wa, central wa, and eastern wa?
-

Uh..... Yep, you did!
Now, since Russ brought up the idea of this get together. I take it he will be the MC for the event and also a leading competitor?
MC sure competitor might take some liquid incouragement for that :chuckle: :chuckle:

I must have been not awake or drinking that day but boo worries i could do that

I've gotten a couple questions about accommodations for those wanting to stay overnight. On site, there will be more space for tents than you can shake a stick at! There is also a good amount of floor space as well as a large attached heated garage for those with cots or air mattresses or whatever. I think there's space for a couple RV's too, but space for them is somewhat limited so speak up early!
-
Ah! How did I miss this! Count me and my chili in! :) Thrilled that its minutes away from home!

I think it is a good idea as long as they are spaced out ...Since we are all spread out it makes sense to do something like this so members can meet more of the folks ....I hope I can make Rasbos this year too .....Just make sure it does not end up at the same time :twocents:

Wait.....drunk or dunk?
-
I'm throwing first
-
Hatchet throw?
-
Not throwing.....shooting bow.
As long as there is a barrier in front of the dunkee we are thinking of an archery target to trip the dunk. Kids shoot close with a longbow and the serious guys like yourself gotta get back. Just put a blunt tip on your arrow and protect the drunk fat bearded dude and we are good to go!
-
Hatchet throw?
My Cold Steel Pipe Hawk-Tomahawk should be here today that I ordered. Woop Im down for this one.

No no no...we are only throwing D-Rocks bow.....not ours. Silly.

Yep.....he needs to grow his beard out a bit more. I'm gripping him by the nostril or beard.....now on other end...grip is all a matter of personal preference.

Just got it, Its NICE. Now its time to do some paint stripping, gun blueing on the metal, sanding on the handle, then a nice finish on the wood..

There will be a basic first aid kit, but after hearing your stories here, you might want to bring one that's a little more.... oh, what's the word? Thorough? Extravagant? Field-trauma ready? :chuckle:

I would say a trauma kit should suffice. That, and if Buckmark is on hand, he can be the wheel man for any trips to the ER.....or liquor store.

Contrary to popular belief, 2 clutses can occupy the same general area and it actually halves the chances of an incident, not doubles it like a lot of people think. It's a law of the universe.

Looks like every one will be having a great time. Rick

Man I hope so :chuckle: not trying to clutter up this thread, but I have to share his lil owie he did himself too.
Ohhhhh *edited* almost forgot his black eye too..
-
Oh that is nasty....
-
I'm starting to feel like I'm gonna need everyone to sign waivers for this... :yike:
Buckmark, good call on leaving the javelin at home! :bdid:
-
Oh that is nasty....
:sry: lol but had to share the reason I think we need a medic team with these two.. this BBQ should be loads of fun ;)
-
Don't we have a coule of paramedics on the forum? Can't we convince one of them to show up?

I have a pretty good feeling that April will veto that idea......
-
We're probably going to have an impromptu vehicle maint. course as well. Buckmark, I need you to look at my engine.
-
Oh, also.... and I'll add this to the original post....
For those planning to spend the night, please speak up! Let me know what accommodations you have/need. If you are bringing a camper, bringing a tent, want space in the living room/garage/wherever for a cot or a sleeping bag....
Also, potluck ideas! Please speak up on what you think you'll be bringing so we know what we have and what we still need.
-
You got my sleeping request, correct?

Is someone going to be manning a BBQ? I hate cooking, honestly, but I have noooo problems buying stuff to bring in terms of meat/pop/chips/dip/buns/whatever. We have roughly a two hour drive and no room for a cooler so prepared food tends to not sit well. If someone wants to pass along some sorta grocery list to me I'll have it covered  lol
-
Bring extra non perishables.......there will be extra meat and stuff like that. I doubt we will have any issue finding a grill master!
-
I'll probably stop off at a near by store on my way in and get some beer.
-
I need to make room in the freezer as well....I'll bring extra summer sausage and salami logs...couple of each probably.
-
Okie dokie, put us down for some randoms for now - pop, cups, paper plates, chips, dip, buns.
-
I'll probably stop off at a near by store on my way in and get some beer.
For those beer connoisseurs, this is very much worth mentioning. There is a place in Lake Stevens you all will drive right past on your way to the bbq called Norm's. It just looks like a Shell gas station, but it is actually beer Mecca. They have, I believe, the 1st or 2nd largest beer selection in the state. They also have 50-60 different beers on tap and will fill growlers while you wait. I'm telling you now, if you like good beer, missing this place would be a crime.

I have a whole freezer that's not being used right now if you wanna store some stuff at my place! :chuckle:

I........love.............NORMS. I don't care who knows....I'll shout it out!
-
Buckmark, good call on leaving the javelin at home! :bdid:
You have it mixed up a bit.
I was going to bring the javelin for the javelin catching contest.
- I decided not to bring it because I came to the reality that the chances up being held liable for H20 getting stuck were too high.
Buckmark is getting some cattle for the cow tipping contest.
- At last word he was cruising the Marysville area shopping around for the proper livestock.

I can still bring an empty beer keg for the keg tossing contest (similar to a strong man competition) if you want. H20 and Russ McDonald would probably be the early favorites. Russ may need some liquid encouragement prior to competing.
-
Plenty of room for a keg toss.

Mmmmmm.......
:puke:
-
I'm looking at bringing $25-$30 worth of coors light Lipton iced tea with lemon.
Fixed. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
You guys may need to bring your own dates as the outlook for cattle is slim...
-
For food right off the top of my head I can volunteer some polish style duck dogs and elk burger. Perhaps some other wild game goodies, but I'll wait until closer to the event to volunteer it.
-
We will come ... we will bring some Fresh Nats from the Skagit :yike: the one s the indians did not want ,,,,lmao !

Reminds me of a joke my boss told me today.
A rancher was just arrested for bestiality. He claims it's a cock n' bull story.

My attendance may be late. We have soccer that day and I'll leave Shelton when we're done. Not sure what time yet.

I think its better to empty a full keg then do the keg toss.

Still need a beer request list. Bringing $30 or so dollars in beer. I can buy quality or quantity

Wow, i just got a pm from corey jacobsen. He is having a elk calling seminar in portland the week before the bbq. Got a lil nervous for a sec. Thought it was the same weekend.

How many beer drinkers do you plan on having? If we all pitch in, i say keg beer is keg beer. Long as its cold.

No idea how many or what they like. :dunno: What did Rasbo do the last few years? I'm the new guy, I'm just providing the location... no idea how the rest works!

Game = ARCHERY POKER!
-
Considering the chaos that may ensue when such great matters of keg beer come up I believe it is the safe and prudent course of action to only have an empty keg on hand. Considering the great love that many of us have for beer it could get ugly unless it was decided by a blind vote. I suggest the following....bring what you like and don't mind sharing. I myself have a fondness for growlers of Gods nectar. I will probably bring three...plenty for me...plenty to share.
And yes Smossy....I'm up for some archery poker.
-
Game = ARCHERY POKER!
Already have it all set up, my good sirs!
Gotta agree with H20. Anyone have an empty keg they don't mind seeing fly through the air?
-
I'll bring a 12pk of coors light and 2 six packs of something that looks like a good beer when I see it at the store. Way more than I can drink.
When I was a teen, we'd throw parties. We'd buy a few cases of good beer and a ton of crappy cheap beer. The rule was, you got 3 good beers. When you got a buzz from the good beer, drinking the skunky crap wasn't so bad so you drank skunky crap the rest of the party.
-
Sage advice Doublej....sage advice indeed.

Wooohooo. Looks like tons of fun, seen it on chasing tails!
-
Sounds good. Espically if double J and I had to drink a keg by ourselves. A box of beer it is then. Guess i better get the bow out and get sighted in for poker. If its a dart board, i think team cricket would be fun.

I'd have given it my best. It is an all day/evening affair so, I might have been able to put a sizeable dent in it. Especially if there's lots of food there

Archery-wise, There will bee a couple choices. Poker (or any card game really), darts, tic-tac-toe, and regular bulls-eye stuff. Range is out to 50 yards, and is plenty far away from where the other activities will be for folks to come and go from those games. I'll try to post pics later!
-
We should start a pool where we PM fishtiq with our guess as to who will be the first person to say "Hold my beer and watch this". No voting for yourself either
-
My son will have to tell his fish stick joke. :chuckle: :chuckle: It's much more cute coming from an 8 year old.
-
It's not the fish stick joke from South Park is it?
-
Yep, thats the one.
-
No no no!!! An 8 year old knows that joke?
-
No no no!!! An 8 year old knows that joke?
Technically aren't they all 8 year olds on South Park? ;)

I suppose.
-
Thats what his mom said. He dosent understand why its so funny. He learned it when he was 6. While his aunt was watching him. I see the humor in it.
-
Not denying the humor in it. I know my wife would lynch my kids for calling someone a gay fish because they liked fish sticks

Lynching is a pretty harsh punishment. Im one of those dads that cant dicipline while smiling or laughing. Its my weakness. Its been two years and i still think its funny when he tells the joke. Do you like fish sticks double j?

I've said it earlier (seems someone has a short memory :tung: ). I have an empty keg that I'll let anyone that wants to throw in the air. That's my contribution to the strong man competition.
Remember there is also a D-Rock throwing competition that has been talked about.
-
I would like to throw the keg. I would also like some keg throwing pointers.
-

You ever buck hay?

Sounds manly. Im in. At least it will remind me that im not in my 20's anymore.
-
Nope....never bucked hay.
You ever grab a guy by the scruff of the neck and his belt and chucked him across the bar?
-
I will just watch
-
Nope....never chucked a man across a bar. I scolded my cat Smokey once.

I object! Thats hearsay and not admissable. Plead the 5th h20

-
Nope....never chucked a man across a bar. I scolded my cat Smokey once.
You may not be right for the competition then :chuckle:
Just trying to relate the motion of a keg throw to you
-
I don't know...I really got after him. Checked youtube for some examples on technique....some real sad examples on there. I've got my ideas on technique....I'm game.
-
D-rock.... is smokey ok? Poor smokey.
-
just remember to take off the tap. the weight & hose dangling will throw off the aerodynamics, center of gravity & create oscillation
-
I don't know...I really got after him.
I am literally laughing at this.
-
For sure take off the tap....part of my method employs the double handed overhead swing beginning from a low center point of gravity. I could have some serious "hang up" issues with a hose upon launch.
-
Sounds like a squat. With a keg overhead. You better keep looking on youtube.
-
No no no...the squat is just to generate power for the fling....think two handed catapult!
-

That has to be better than a " hang down" issue right? :dunno:

make sure to practice the strut prior to & after the throw. its the details in form that count as much as the throw. outfit counts as well.

Done deal baby girl...
I thought about "the whirlwind".......however....remember the comment about "hold my beer"...I feel that I may get better distance by flinging it in a straighter line. The spinning may work against me.
-
Cracks me up that there is a current thread about working out, supplements, eating healthy and all that stuff. Then we have us beer chuggin, bbq eatin, keg throwin, rednecks. I know who has more fun!
-

Sweeeeet, pics should be in next Hunt-WA magazine issue :chuckle:

Haha!
-
Rice cake? Sure. What kind if frosting does it have?
-
H20, I've always done best using a discus throwing technique. You will need to refine your release a bit. That's the critical part. Release at the wrong time and you have a keg flying through the windshield of a truck or something like that.
-
I understand....my problem is I've never done track and field. I got no "glory days" on the discus field to fall back on. Somebody wants to swim X number of yards I'm in. I once threw a shot put off a upper level onto a basketball floor. The PE coach was royally peeved! I'd like to take some test throws prior to my official toss. Then...maybe take the best of three throws. Now Goldeney....you are built like you could have had some glory days. I think you or somebody else will have to step in and give some honest to goodness don't throw your back out you drunk dummy tips.
-
I scolded my cat Smokey once.
Is that what they are calling it these days??? :o
-
I think h20 needs to bring his calendar
-
Nope....me in a Team Jacob T-shirt is all the ladies can handle.

Glory Days is right. Since those day I have had both shoulders dislocated at one time or another, have a torn rotater cuff on the right side, tendonitis in both elbows, and bulging discs in both back and neck. There was a time I could do things like this well. Not any more. I'll be there to give it a whirl though. The will is still there though the body may not back it up any more. That's where some liquid medicine may help after competing...
I'll even try to help you H20...
-

-
Not gonna even try if that baby is full......dry empty keg please!
-
Not even an issue. There is no way double J and I would let a full keg get tossed. Thats alcohol abuse. :bdid:
-
Alcohol and Macho mayhem....i thought this was going to be a vegan basket weaving seminar and beet eating festival?
-
This is what you are looking for H20. The challenge is in the mind, not in the muscle. Visualize the toss and it will happen as planned...

UFO! :yike:
-
sad thing is most kegs got tossed towards the truck so someone could go for a refill.
-
:yeah:
-
Not the one I'll bring. It'll eventually have the top cut open and be a large pot for crab boils etc... I don't mind it getting tossed around a bit at this event.
D-Rock, Glad to see you surface...

For seeing any problems with the appraisal we will be moving into our new house the weekend of the bbq. Sorry guys.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
-
Congrats on the new house Russ! You'll be missed, but I can't say I blame you for not making it.
Been a while since this thread got bumped, everyone else still making it out? Any newcomers?
-
Still planning on it.
-
We're still in, it's set on the calender! Sorry you can't get rid of us that easily :) haha.
-
Do you have broadhead targets? I got a new sight and need to sight in at 40 and 50 yards and don't have anywhere here to get that done. Figure if I'm bringing my bow anyway...
-
It sucks that I am not going to meet some of you guys. It will have to be another day. I hope you all have a great time.
-
I hope you do too. Moving sucks although, it is made MUCH easier when you know you're moving into YOUR house
-

Nope, sorry, no bh target area. Maybe someone that is coming could bring one if they have one... :dunno:
Kinda been thinking though, the yard could use some horseshoe pits.....
-
Your right. The yard could use some horse shoe pits. When are you thinking about building them?
-
Not sure... I have to go to a wedding this weekend :bash:, so maybe late next week? Thursday or Friday of next week, maybe later depending on work....
40 feet from post to post, right?
-
Ya, thats right.
-
I have a question. I thought that the date was orginally the 22nd now the 29th? I like that because I think we can make that.

I was thinking we would take up a donation at the bbq, to go to Aaron's family. Still, it would be nice to find a better way to get some $ together than just passing around a hat. Dinner donation, a little competition on the archery range, something like that. Anyone got any ideas?
-
Also...
Granite Falls Sportsmans Club is holding a 3D shoot the day after the bbq, on the 30th. Those of you who are coming from a ways away, might be a good opportunity to bring your bows and take advantage of shooting their range! Also supports a good club.
-
I'm trying to get some raffles for the 3-D shoot at granite that will also go to Aarons family.

Posted a link to the shoot thread.
-
Well shoot might have to make an appearance :chuckle: :yike:
-
Glad to help out, sounds like it will be a fun event. Thanks to Radsav for making the donation. I will smoke around 50 lbs of meat plus the fixins so hopefully enough to go around. Looking forward to it.
-
We are going to try hard to make is now that I have the right date. As long as I get all moved in by the 22nd of June. Crossing fingers that the appraisal goes fine.
-
the wife and I will be attending, looking forward to getting to see everyone
hrd
-
wish I could make it...
-
We are going to have a few raffle items at the BBQ for the Blanchard family.
-
I will be there if we are all done moving into our new house also.
-
I am in the same boat as snocohunter but we are thinking this would be a good down time after moving and stuff. I think I have some venison summer sausage to bring with.
-
Im thinking of maybe some bear sticks and some salami...
-
I'm still wondering if I'm stopping at the store and buying beer or giving my beer money to the guy who buys the keg.
-
Good question.
-
Unless the keg is from Norm's I will just bring a couple growlers.
So who said they were bringing a keg?
-
I think its up for discussion. Do we all want to pitch in and get a keg or 2 or 3 maybe 4 :chuckle:
-
I say no keg. To much work for hauling, returning, and putting down the deposit. I'm in for some growlers at a minimum and a little extra more than likely.
-
:cryriver:

So, do we want a few quality items or a larger quantity of cheaper beer?
-
I go for quality over qty every time.
-
What's a growler? :-\
-
Its what happens the next morning after drinking to much cheep beer.
-
Growler is a half gallon glass jug usually with some logo type cool stuff on it. Many places will fill the growler cheaper than you can buy the beer in a six pack.

lmao! I'd google it but I can't with work filters, no alcohol/gambling related things (among a thousand others).

Wow. I thought our filter was bad. We only get gambling/video games/porn blocked. There's even a work around with porn sometimes through Google. So, when I get a truck of 55 gallon drums of oil that's not on pallets, you're the one I blame for not "Writing it into the contract" that they be delivered on pallets?

When is the date again? Has it changed as I have not followed the thread since the first two pages.
Someone might want to make a deal with this activity.

June 29th is the BBQ
-
Okay, title has been updated with the date of the event. Also, the first post in this thread on page 1 I'm keeping updated with all the current info, so if you have any questions, just check there. Or ask here. Or pm, call, text, email, semaphore, morris code or smoke signal me.
Keep your fingers crossed for good weather! Those of you with instant-up awnings, one or two would not go unused I'm sure. A couple folding tables would probably also be handy if anyone has any. Also... lawn chairs!!! Bring your lawn chairs, I don't have enough for all the butts that are attending! :chuckle:
I'm with H20 on the beer thing, bring whatever kind you like so everyone's happy and I'm not left with a half a keg of goat piss.
My guest room and couches are already spoken for, so those of you planning on spending the night, be sure to bring a cot or a bedroll or whatever. Plenty of floor space available, plus a heated 2 car garage if you are so inclined, or you can throw out a tent by the firepit. I can probably accommodate 1 or 2 campers, as long as they aren't freakishly large, so if you plan on bringing one lemme know!
-
I've already reserved a couch for my son and I. I'll bring my beer plus some random stuff from that big beer store you mentioned. Segrams and Boons, as much as I can afford, right?
-

...and Zima!
:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I got a couple give aways I am bringing with. If we do something at the BBQ or goes to the 3D shoot is fine with me. Here they are.

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
H20 will have to bring his own. I can't afford Zima
-
We will be having a birthday party in Everett for my boy in the mid afternoon. Afterwards....probably around 5...I'll be showing up with the family in tow. No Zima for this boy......I'll make sure I've got a couple of growlers on ice from Norms to share.
-
Is the "whose coming" list in the first post current?
-
I know I'm still a "GO" for this event...I can't wait to meet up with a lot of the screen names & put faces to them.
Should I not bring my bottle of real everclear that is 190 proof? What about spiking a watermelon with it? Suggestions??
-
-
Oh yeah I forgot I have apple pie moonshine I will be bringing.
-
I just read the " what to do with a coyote " and I think this event would be the PERFECT occasion for Smossy to eat a coyote with all the attendees as witness to it :dunno: ;)
-
You guys may see D-rock get drunk :dunno:

You and I are going to be drinking buddies. My boy can watch your kids until H20 gets there.
P.S. I don't think I'm bringing my bow. I'm not sure I'm going to have time to sight in the new sight before then. Maybe though.
-
WHAT? Boozing with other houses in "lobbing range" with children around is the perfect place to sight it in!
-

Well, since you put it that way....
-
I know...right! I'm brining my bow but will refrain from to much beer/bow combo.
-
I've seen drunk people shoot bows in the dark over in deer camp years ago. Someone lost a truck window.
-
I am bringing my bow. Won't be drinking much either.

Is that where you put the point of the arrow on your forehead and the nock in the dirt and spin around 10 times and then nock the arrow and shoot? That sounds like a blast!!!
-
I see 2 women on that list. I was thinking of bringing the family and the wife could DD me home but, not if there's only a couple of women going to be there.
-
my wife and daughter will be there as well
-
Buckmark and I should be there
-
My wife will be there.

My wife will be there as well...good luck with that. Lady Buckmark has something to show me already sooooo................

Sorry, I don't have all the spouses/kids up there. I've gotten plenty of pm's and such though from folks who are bringing spouses and kids, so bring your wife too, she is more than welcome! It's supposed to be a family bbq after all, and with the spread wamuledeer is bringing along with whatever food and "shine" others are bringing there should be plenty of everything for everyone!
-
I'm going to bring my retarded dog too and anyone who wants to kidnap him, well, lets just say I won't call the cops. ;)
-
As long as he is well behaved. I have rabbits and chickens and turkeys running around that he won't be allowed to kill!
-
My wife will be attending with me too.

He'd probably just try to hump them.

H20 - just my collection of really cool ATL yote pics ;)

Developmentally challenged dog VS Impared wanna be archery hunters
Lady Buck....they better be taped to your ribs my dear.
-
H20 - just my collection of really cool ATL yote pics ;)
They're not pictures of yotes in a death pile are they?
-
Developmentally challenged dog
The term "Developmentally challenged" implies that there was an effort and that it was challenging. I assure you, there was no effort for this dog to develop.
-
The 7mmstalker family would love to join the bbq.
My self, the wife, and 11 year-old son.
He and I will bring our hunting bows, and some humility.
We have a long folding table, a large ice chest and even larger tent, leaving the two knuckleheads (labradork retreivers) at home.
Looking forward to meeting everybody!
-
22 Days! :IBCOOL:
-
Is it pretty much a free for all what to bring as in potluck? Looks good so far for us coming.
-
For those who are bringing bows and camping just remember granite has a 3-d shoot Sunday just a few miles down the road. I'm hopefully working on a little elk calling seminar after the shoot from a guy named Jason phelps I hope that works out.
-
Bum Bum. Too far for me to go :bash:
-
Sounds good I'm gonna try and make it and bring the girlfriend too.
-
Is it pretty much a free for all what to bring as in potluck? Looks good so far for us coming.
wamuledeer is bringing a pretty good spread that was auctioned off for Colokumelk's fundraiser. Hopefully he can chime in on what he is bringing so everyone knows, but I know he said pulled pork, brisket, salad and not sure what else.
Chips, soda, potato salad, any wild game, signature dishes you make, beans, garden veggies..... bring whatever you like, I'm sure it won't go to waste!
Anyone planning on bringing dessert?
-
Isn't pulled pork a dessert?
-
Isn't pulled pork a dessert?
Yep, and gravy is a beverage! :chuckle:
-
I'm bringing Pulled coyote. Should be Marinated by then.. Go's great on pumpernickel bread. Rick

-
Ah come on man. I am really kicking butt on my diet and your going to bring that :chuckle: oh well I will have to take a day off for special situations. but if I loose the biggest loser by a pound I am coming to find you H20 :chuckle: :chuckle:

Sunday shoot for should be a fun follow up the BBQ. Jason Phelps has confirmed that he will be doing a calling seminar after the shoot. Fishstiq posted a link above.
-
I am thinking I will make it. Meet everyone. I think I can bring a bunch of smoked sockeye. Maybe bring the wife if there are a few other ladies for her to mingle.
-
Fishtiq, is there a backdoor entrance to your place?
-
Depends on the number of beers consumed I hear.............

Yeah, there will be wives and kids and spastic dogs, so I doubt anyone will feel left out! I'm trying to build the horseshoe pits this weekend.... anyone free Saturday that likes shoveling? :dunno:
Also still looking for a couple folding tables and pop-up awnings, if a couple of you don't mind bringing them that would be awesome! Don't forget to bring your folding chairs as well!
For those overnighting or returning Sunday, there will be breakfast.
-
I have table and canopy.
-
I have a small easy to tote folding table....will bring that along with chairs. I'm waiting to tell the wife about the two cakes I want her to make until much closer to the event. She loves surprises.

First time seeing this thread ha. Would be nice to be able to go and meet everyone on here

Depends on where it will be packed in the new house but I have an Easy Up canopy.
-
Awesome, thanks for bringing that stuff guys!
So far, no one has posted up that they love shovelling in really hard, rock filled clay ground all day on their day off. Strange...
-
I can probably help.
-
I have a fishing trip planned with the boy or I would love to help. If you end up choosing a different day or even the day of, i would be happy to help. I will definatly be using it.

I say we have a horseshoe tournament. Random partners.
-
Im in, are dinker and stang gonna make it?

Dinker will. Stang probably not.

I can bring a 6` folding table, 2 picnic tables, also have 3umbrellas,2 with stands. Sheryl and Angel will be baking cookies and homemade macaroni salad as well.

I'm on it! Names in a hat, random drawing, entry fee (maybe it goes to the Blanchard family...?), elimination bracketing..... That's gonna be awesome.
On a side note, I'm really looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys that I haven't met yet. I'm also cringing at the thought of meeting some of you, but I digress... :chuckle: :chuckle: Thanks very much to everyone helping out with this, bringing food and tables and awnings and everything else, it's a really big help and I wanna be sure you guys know I really appreciate it!!!!

I hope your the guy in your picture with the "ice" tattoos. That would make my day. :chuckle:

Just found out that I'm on call that weekend :o
I'm still showing up & I'm going to try to switch that out but I may have to be a bit more diligent about being responsible that day :dunno:
-
Shooting those 3ds would help your hunting plus there fun. I miss bowhunting. Was very lucky on the ekk and bear. Rick

Okay, pm's just went out to everyone who said they were or might be attending! If you didn't get a pm with directions, address, phone number and all that, lemme know and I'll send you the info.
-
Im in, cant wait! Should be good times, and I cant wait to meet some of ya'll.

Apparently i have exceeded the total number of pm's I can send in an hour. Not trying to ignore anyone, I'll answer you guys as soon as I can send more pm's.

Got mine can't wait. Rick
-
Okay, I think I'm all caught up. Anyone I missed still need directions or have any questions?
Also, DoubleJ told me he won't be able to make it unfortunately, so that brings up 2 things. 1, there will be no first aid station or trauma seminar. :chuckle: 2, there are now 2 couches available, one regular size and one smaller, both recline enough that I sleep in them regularly! If anyone wants them, speak up!

Us :dunno: :)
I sent you a pm, tell Smossy to clean out some room in his inbox as his pm got bounced back to me! I'll resend to both of you.

Anyone planning on bringing anything "unique" food-wise? So far I've seen a pretty big collection of foods that folks are bringing, so I doubt anyone will be going hungry! Speaking of..... anyone seen camo queen around? I wanna be sure she's still planning on bringing her chili!
As soon as I get a little break in the weather I'll be heading outside to work more on the horseshoe pits. I hope we have better weather than this for the bbq, or we are all gonna be stuck inside watching h2o playing dance dance revolution on the kinect in his twilight shirt! ...and no way will April allow an indoor D-rock toss.... :bdid:
-
I land gently :chuckle:
-
Love me some DDR! Also I move better in my kilt so that should be fun.
I've ordered (asked very politely) the wife to make two.....count them two....of her famous banana caramel cake and she is on board.

2 things....
1, the list of attendees in the 1st post of this thread is pretty much useless, so if you don't see your name there don't sweat it, I lost track of all the pm folks.
2, chairs! If you want a place to sit, bring camp chairs! I don't have nearly enough for all the butts showing up!
One horseshoe pit is done, working on the 2nd one today hopefully. If anyone has bocce, lawn darts, or other stuff like that, feel free to bring them along with you.
Hopefully there is some better weather on it's way so I can get the yard mowed and we have a nice, sunny day. Fingers crossed!
-
Hopefully I will be able to swing in for a bit if I do not have to work. I would like to meet some more members.
-
I can't wait for Saturday. I really need some time away to relax some. Moving sucks. See you all in a few days.
-
Just gotta get through my boys birthday party in the afternoon then the wife and I and both rugrats will be there. See ya then Russ.....

Buckmark.....who is going to provide color commentary on my Twilight t-shirt if you aren't there?
-
Wish I could make it but Rippette and myself are tying the knot on Friday and we're have 60 people over for a reception party on Sat. Will you guy's have enough food to feed 60 unannounced guest? Maybe I could talk them in to it, especially if I tell them about Loki's raccoon chilli! :dunno:

What do I need to bring.
-
What do I need to bring.
Pretty much whatever you want to. I think most everything we "need" is covered, we have pulled pork, brisket, beans, salad, h2o is bringing a couple desserts, smossy's girl is bringing plates/cups/stuff like that, I've seen duck chili, veggie trays, coolers with soda & water, I'll be throwing a few chickens on the smoker, there's kabobs, raccoon who-knows-what from lokidog, cookies and macaroni salad........ I think I'm gonna have to roll some of you out of here with all this food!
Anyone who is wondering what to bring, I would say just bring something you like, or something that you like to use to show off your cooking skills! Again, game meat and home grown veggies and homemade breads/cheeses, stuff like that, I'm sure would be great!
I also found hunter orange balloons, so look for those on your way driving here to mark the turns. Now if we could just get a couple dry days so I could get the lawn mowed in time!
Oh, and anybody local got a log splitter I could borrow for a couple hours? That'll help open up more parking, and it'll get me out of having to split it all the hard way!
-
I am going to bring some Antelope skirt steak. Do it up like Carne Asada meat for Fajitas or whatever. Do we need more BBQ's?
-
Beer.....I'm in for a few growlers....say........3....maybe 4.

We should be fine on bbq's. One charcoal, one 4 burner gas, plus 2 burner coleman camp stove if necessary. Antelope carne asadas sounds awesome!
Also just noticed I have a whole unopened can of cougar gold cheese in the fridge....

Something to encourage digestion maybe? Everyone's going to be so constipated with all the game meat. :dunno:

Joe...what time is the main grub......6?
Looks like the main tablefare will be arriving about 3ish, that's the brisket, pulled pork, beans and salad. However, it looks like food will be pouring in all day, from about 1pm on, so I wouldn't worry about going hungry!

Those of you that have been to Rasbo's bbq's in the past, anything glaringly obvious that's missing? I'm new at this, so this will be a learning experience.
-
I'm dropping my stuff of early and will help you set up whatever you need but I'll have to leave for a few hours to go get all the targets set for Sundays 3-D shoot.

Cool, if you want to you can drop stuff of Thursday or Friday on your way out to the range if that's easier. Might save you a trip. Lemme know so I can have a place to put everything set up.

A few pages back, Rick from R.R. Game Calls, offered to put on a demonstration and show some of us how it’s done.
First of all, thanks to Rick!
Does anyone else have anything they would like to share? Here are a few topics that get a lot of attention on the forum.
• How to scout and what to look for with Google Earth;
• A show and tell with different maps;
• Same with GPSs;
• Etc.
OR are we just going to eat and drink ourselves into a stupor? :chuckle:
-
I vote stupor......

Stupor!
Nah.......be safe folks!

In that case, I should mention that etiquette and house rules dictate all leftover bbq, beer and cakes be left on site at the conclusion of the event.....

Thinking if there is interest I may bring some Gold pans and some dirt from the river and maybe let people try their hand at Panning for Gold. Won't say there will be any gold in the stuff I bring but maybe some flood gold. Kids would have fun.

That would be cool....I know my boy would get a kick out of it.

Cheapest one I could find was $150/day rental, and I didn't have time to build one. Too bad, it's supposed to be really nice weather.

I'll be picking up a couple cases of bottled water for everyone today. We have a few awnings, umbrella shades, and tables being brought. Looks like a beautiful morning today, hope this is a sign of what we will see tomorrow!
-
Depending on work hours and the state of the move...I may be there. Possibly with one more.
-
Take and post lots of pictures please. I especially want one of a drunken H2O in his twilight shirt (emphasis on the DRUNKEN part even though I suspect that when drunk, H2O will be shirtless and quite possibly pantsless, instead of actually in his twilight shirt)

Sounds like getting away for a break would be good. This'll be a good way to get your mind off things, at least for the short term.

Tire fire

Nothing like the nice smell of a good tire fire.
-
Horseshoes, Bocce, frisbee so far. I figure lots of eating, and folks just getting to know each other and putting faces to names. After a few :brew: , we'll see if the keg goes a-flyin'!

OK, Who's bringing the tires for the fire?
Nothing like smores cooked off of a good ol' tire fire.

After all the food is eaten (and H20 gets none) I don't think anyone will wanna be chasing a frisbee around. That vision made me laugh, people running with swelly-bellies trying to chase a flying disc.. That'd make me wanna hurl.
-
Theres always an extra tire to burn....with this group I don't think it will be an issue.
Ahem.....there better be!

What time should people use as a start for showing up?

Without reading back through 24 pages, can you tell me if you still need prizes? (I noticed a call for them on the first page.)
-
I would think anything before noon is to early just my opinion. Family and I will be there around 1 . A man needs his Saturday coffee and time to think, why am I doing this again and do I catch h2o from the roof or see if he bounces :chuckle:
-
Im thinking im good for a bounce or two
-
Anytime after 10am is fine, I'll be setting up probably from 10 to 11ish.
Prizes would be cool, but don't go out of your way or anything. If folks want to make things competitive, I'd say bring some singles for small side bets and 5-10s for pool betting.

First off sorry I couldn't stay longer. Sounds like the fun is really happening now. Fishstiq thanks for putting this on and letting us invade your home. Wamuledeer awesome food  Radsav thanks for donating that awesome food. All the other food was equally good too. . I blew the diet today. :chuckle: :chuckle:. It was good to meet all of again and new people. It is an absolute pleasure being around people that enjoy the same things that we do. Again Fishstiq thanks for putting this on. I am sure since I left all the drunken debauchery is going to happen now. Hope to see you all again some time.

No fights.

Thanks Fishstiq, for hosting this! One thing we found out for sure. Smossy and D-Rock are not a dominate team to any extent when it comes to horseshoes. I hope they shoot their bows better than they toss shoes. The keg toss was interesting, no one got hurt. Fishseeker had a gold panning station set up. I heard there was some color found in the material he brought to pan. Food was off the hook. Everyone that contributed brought their "A" game when it comes to the food. Bearmaniac brought his calls and was showing everyone them plus doing demonstrations. I think my apple pie was a liked. It seemed to get all drank up while I was tossing shoes at the pit.
Not sure what else to say. When I left Fishtiq was down on the couch. He may still be there...
-
Lmao ok this get together was awesome, who gave us the Victoria Secret bag with the Hello Kitty towel?? We literally JUST found it on the hood of our SUV.

3am last ones awake. Time for bed cheers everyone. Glad everyone could make an appearance.

What a great time! Really cool to meet up with everyone & put names to faces. The food was phenomenal
Huge props to Fishstiq for hosting the event & I'm already looking forward to next years turn out ;)
P.S. glad I didn't have to pull out the med kit even with those keg tosses & wild flying horseshoes :chuckle:

Thanks again Fishtiq! I had a great time meeting and hanging out with a bunch of the Hunt-Wa regulars! The food was great, the venue was great and everyone was in good spirits! Can't wait to do it again!
...and yeah, my head hurts bit today...
-
Wow! What a fantastic event! Good food, good people, and good times! So great to put faces to all the names! Fishstiq, thank you so much for opening up your beautiful home to all us crazy people! I had a wonderful time! Thank you!
-
Ah good times. Me telling Smossy to screw off.....I'm not wearing a nametag then finding out later that I had one on my back for the three hours. Well done. Goldeneye pulling out his bottle of hooch....me being smart and having a tiny sip. Bravo for me with the occasional good decision. Speaking of Goldeneye...thanks for the ride home. That worked out great and I appreciate it. I managed to shoot D-Rocks bow...even if is a jr size...The food was great...plenty for everyone. Like Lokidog said...the raccoon sloppy joe was not good...nor was it really that bad. Bwana Bob...killer 'lope kabobs. Joe and his wife of course did a great job hosting and we all thank you for having us. Lets see...the keg toss went well. Deke did a good job with combining grace and form with a low center of gravity and was hands down the king of the toss. I gave it a solid throw but wasn't in the running. Jenny and every else that I'll forget your names it was cool to meet you guys. Always good to see Russ, Carl, and a few others I've met before. The gold panning was neat. Granted I didn't find any gold or strike it rich and have a fairly awkward voice mail to explain to my boss and where I may have told him to go in anticipation of getting rich. Yes, I too woke with just a twinge. The beer, thanks to myself for bringing it, was very good and I had my fair share. However, a little time at the archery range this morning cleared things right up.
So, Joe.....have we set a date for next year? Same time same place?
-

Thanks for breakfast and good conversations fishstiq, we appreciate the hospitality. H2o thanks for the goodies and sharing your mighty fine growlers. You rock buddy. Ill have to get u back when i stick a bear this year. Elk247 coo to finally meet you an your good peoples, thanks for the goodies from you also. Well have to meet up again soon. To the gentlemen who gave me the elk shed, shoot me a message if you read this. I was a tad inebriated and don't remember what your name was, we had a good conversation. Radsav, thanks for making it out and bringin the angry squaw  didn't think you would make it out to enjoy your own BBQ donation, we appreciate it and the food was delicious. Its always a pleasure chatting with you and getting to pick your brain for information. Thanks to walamudeer? I think for cooking the BBQ, again the food was great. Thanks to D-rock for showing up and making me not feel like the smallest guy there anymore :chuckle: also for busting one of my arrows and being my partner in our amazingly professional game of horse shoes that we totally rocked at, not sure what everyone else is talking about :dunno: Thanks to Goldeneye for being such a cool guy and letting us all sample your apple pie shinnee, it was real tasty - you would have won if anyone else would have brought any for sure.. and thanks to everyone else I didn't get to meet for keeping everything fairly civilized it was all in all a perfect BBQ get-together.
-
Awesome turnout, and thanks everyone for being such a great crowd!
When I woke up this morning, I was dreading the cleanup that I was gonna have ahead of me. What a great feeling seeing there was almost no cleaning up to do! The place looked great, no trash anywhere, garbages had been taken care of.... all that was left was bagging up some leftovers! You guys are absolutely awesome!
It was really cool getting to put some faces to names, sorry I won't remember everyone I'm terrible with names. The gold panning was really cool, and oh man was that a ton of good food! I'll probably be replacing divits in my yard for 2 weeks though after Smossy and D-rock's horseshoe trainwreck. :chuckle: Oh, and you folks raise some GREAT kids! They were all so well behaved and polite, you parents are doing a great job. Rick, the calling was really cool, thanks for showing some of us! Lokidog, you were right about the raccoon, but that doesn't mean I'm eating it again :chuckle:.
It was a pleasure to have you all. This board has a great collection of folks. April and I are just hugely impressed with the generosity and helpfulness of all of you. From folks that brought awnings and tables, Ken and all his shade umbrellas and benches, to the folks that brought all that great food (wamuledeer you knocked it out of the park!), kebabs, duck jerky, banana cake, apple crisp, to the folks that cleaned up, took out garbages, did recycle stuff, we just want to say a huge THANK YOU ALL!!! You guys and gals are just an awesome, quality group of fun people to be around , and we are both thankful to associate with you all!
Those of you who took pics, please post 'em up!
Apologies if I've forgotten anyone or left anything out, I'm still kinda piecing together parts of it :chuckle:.
Having said all that, I just wanna be clear: There is NO WAY we are hosting again next year.
:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
See you all then.
-
Thanks for hosting fishtiq. You have a great place and the perfect location for an event like this. Sorry I couldn't stay longer but I hope there was enough BBQ to go around after I left.
-
Just got home, what a long, hot day. Thanks Fishstiq, wish I had thought to pull the phone/camera out when you were "sleeping" on the couch.... :chuckle:
Great food by everyone. The Sloppy Joe racoon must have been decent as there was only about one sandwich worth left for the dog to eat.
Thanks everyone for allowing Amber to visit and play.

We had a good time even if I was reminded afterward that I am still a fun sucker ;) WMD that brisket was out of this world good!! Sorry to those folks I cut conversations short with and didn't get back to. Was a bit of a weird day for me with the information I was getting in during the event. Fish-can't say enough about you and your beautiful family - Thank you for hosting and doing all the hard work.
-
had some fun in the son for sure.
Joe, if you think D-Rock did a job near the horseshoe pits, you should have seen the divot from his keg toss. All 4 shoes would have fit in it :chuckle:
My son had a good time shooting the long bow for kids and was exhausted at the end of the night from all the running around and playing
The food was good and prolly enough to do it all again. The coon was bad, not great, but edible. Hooda thunk it :dunno:
Definately will attend these in the future

Lmao ok this get together was awesome, who gave us the Victoria Secret bag with the Hello Kitty towel?? We literally JUST found it on the hood of our SUV.
:o  8) I ain't saying nothing...That Dude's crazy :chuckle:
HA! yes... veddy veddy crazy and sneaky :P
Whackmaster - awesome pics, glad someone snapped some. I have a few to upload but they're icky cell phone quality.
-
There's nothing I can add that someone hasn't already addressed. This was an awesome event and pretty flawless, no crazies, no fisticuffs, just great people and awesome food. I wanted to say hi to everyone but I basically retreated to the shade until later in the evening (2 hour drive with no AC will do that to a girl) and thanks again RadSav for the ice packs >_< hehe. To the ones I did meet, it was a pleasure, and very fun experience. Very good conversations :) and I'm glad everyone got home safely.
Here's a few pics I did manage to take with the crap cell phone but what can ya do :dunno:
OH and I have a quite amusing video of the keg toss, once I figure out how to lighten the video (recorded pretty dark) and edit some language out (haha) I'll be posting that later as well.

had a good time nice to meet some of you and where did that hello kitty towel come from
scary :yike: :bdid:
Lmfao. We had a feeling

I have a photo of our host. It just needs a little photo editing. You know, blur out something obvious. I do not have the software on my computer to do that. Who can I send this to that can do the necessary "blurring" and post the picture?

I will go on record that i take no responsibility for the debauchery, smossy did that. :peep:

Haha I loved Amber, hope her noggin is okay after the running-head-first-into-door incident. I honestly only numbered the pups because I changed the picture file name to "H20 letting the dogs out" lol.

This is the first time checking the link today. It doesn't sound like things got too crazy after we left. I wish we could have stayed longer.
It looks like it's all been said, but... The company was great, the food was fantastic, and our host was the best! Thanks Joe and April for opening up your home to us and rolling out top notch hospitality. I hope April is feeling better.
H2O, was your wife responsible for those bananna cakes? If so, please tell her -they were one on the best deserts I've ever eaten, if not THE best.
The antelope, duck, bear, BBQ, was incredible. I forget to try the raccoon.
Like some others, I can't remember names but I hope to see y'all again soon.
Almost forgot - Goldeneye, that was awesome apple pie. I might have to try my hand at it. And that's to the member ( see, I forgot a name ) for bidding and purchasing the fantastic BBQ for us all.

Joe.....please tell me we are doing this again next year......actually....we may just show up regardless!

Thanks Joe & April for hosting such a great BBQ. My girlfriend and I had a great time eating and meeting the HW members. Way too much good food.

Joe.....please tell me we are doing this again next year......actually....we may just show up regardless!
We need to come up with a few more events for us skilled athletes. Shoes and a kegs toss fit in the wheel house well. What else can we come up with?
A safety note for next year. We may want to wear shin guards when tossing shoes opposite Smossy. He has a tendency to get a little strong on his throws and next thing you know you have incoming. I had to jump out of the way of a few of his tosses. He even gave overhand throwing of the shoes a try. :bdid:

I think shin guards for the keg toss as well... I remember someone smacking themselves with the keg haha.

That was Elk247. He needs more technique work. Your not supposed to hit yourself when your trying to throw something. Unless your wanting to be a Darwin candidate, that is.
I can't dis him too much, he was a great horseshoe partner when we put the smack-down on Smossy and D-Rock.
-
Ya, that particular technique failed. I have a better more of a risk/reward techniqe in mind for next time. Think wild semi controlled spinning hammer throw style. Fishstiq you have a pm incoming.

That's the easy way. Ever used a shoe? . Seriously, last summer had to u tube how to open a bottle because i forgot the corkscrew on a camping trip with the girlfriend. A Nike and a tree worked fine but it took a few tries. Put the base of the bottle in the shoe then slam it repeatedly against the tree until the hydraulic pressure forces the cork about half way out. Finish pulling the cork with your teeth for style points and to really impress your lady.

No, with a wine cork opener. Lol I couldn't get it to seat and it wouldn't come out :bash: screw you guys, I'm going home lol. Weathergirl had to show me how it was done.

Okay...I gotta ask....how........and when....did Smossy get his hands on some wine?

I belive it. That guy will eat/drink anything. Very classy, raccoon chased by merlot.

Lol it was mine.. and we're both guilty since weathergirl had to open up the first bottle for me! (thank you lol)
...and no he refused to drink it :chuckle: but who knows after a few beers WHAT he ended up drinkin.
We're obviously amateurs at drinking - him with his bud light, and me with my un-openable bottles of wine.
-
I expect it went something like this...We're out of beer! Who wants wine?
-
Next year I might make up some jello shots for the party. They are quite refreshing on a hot day like we had.
-
We gave it our best, but we did not run out of beer. Very close though.
-
Maybe he was not strong enough to pull the cork out? :chuckle:

I'll give the little guys credit. Smossy and D-Rock competed in the keg toss.
-
I got full on smores. :bash: ran outta room.
-
Me and Elk 247 tried to drink all the beer we could. By the end of the night there was only 2 beers left and we couldn't do it. ^^ I was going to re-edit not to put elk on blast but screw it he replied anyhow :)

Its fine, I'll take the credit.

Hey Fishtiq, those glasses belong to ScottCRB but its my fault they got left over there. He lent them to me and I left them on the counter when I wrote up my name tag.
