We probably saw atleast 65 birds but most of them were on private land.

Well we started out walking a treeline bordering a field at about 6:00 on sunday morning. At about 7:30 we were back at the rig after seeing no birds. We decided to drive up a backroad out of chewelah that will take you in the little pond oreille wildlife area. On our way up we were seeing birds everywere but all on private land. It was frustrating. Finally we were in the refuge and we spotted two birds on the right side of the road so we anchored the brakes and got out. We put a stock on them for a little ways till we could get a shot. I shot first and knocked mine down then my friend shot his seconds after. So after 2 birds we were pretty excited but each had a tag left. We got back in my jeep and started driving and within fifteen minutes we were in a group of about ten birds. These birds were a little less leary and we were able to shoot both of them about thirty yards off the road. So by about 8:30am we had tagged out and headed home with meat to put in the freezer.

There are other ways to hunt turkeys in the fall.  Many hunters in wa do lots of road hunting/spot and stalk.  I prefer to locate the bachelor groups of toms and bring home the big dude flush them off the roost or break up the flock and kee kee them back in or do the lost poult call.  The beardless seasons up north will produce bigger toms in the spring for sure.  Save the factory don't shoot momma!  good job!
