Title: 30-.264mag
Post by: elkinrutdrivemenuts on March 07, 2013, 09:22:15 PM
So I have a .264 win mag that will probably need a new  barrel before to long.  I was thinking of turning it into something unique.  Anyone know I'd there is a .264 win mag cartridge necked up to accept 30 cal bullets?  It would probably be very similar to a 300 win mag since they are based on the same parent case it just won't have the same powder capacity, but it could be a fun build.  Or maybe I could neck it down to accept a smaller caliber bullet, I just don't want to change the action.  Want a unique cartridge based on the 264 mag case.  Any ideas are appreciated.  Thanks!

Just go with 300 Win Mag. Or 7mm Rem Mag. There's no sense in going less than 264 caliber with that size case.

They are all basically the same cartriadge (standard win mags) so you could build any of those rifles off of that action.

what are you wanting to do with the rifle? 338 is an option. But you were wanting a odd ball so i'm not sure.

Yeah I didn't get any results when I googled it, so if figured there wasn't much out there.  Just wondering if any had a custom caliber they knew of. I was looking to keep it 30 cal or under, I have a 338 rum so I wanted something smaller for deer and what not that was a wildcat and unique. Maybe ill just throw a new barrel on it and keep it a 264.  No reason to change a good thing.

It is, hits hard and a light recoil just wanna see if there is anyway to "improve" it.  Figure I might as well look at all options if I'm buying a new barrel and putting money into it.  I like custom rifles that are one of a kind.

that would be a tough one to improve on. maybe just look for/ build a custom rifle on a different platform.

Wasn't the .264 Win originally a .264-338 WinMag wildcat with a 25 degree shoulder?  If that's the case the .30/338 Win and the .375/338 CHAT would basically be necked up .264 wildcats wouldn't they?  :dunno:

.264, morphed into .338, then 7mm Rem mag...............if you want in between, 7mag is the one.

You want unique, then build a .277 cal with that case.  That's about the only thing left worth doing under .338 that hasn't been done with that case, IMHO.
