I want to get one of Jason's mouth reeds. What one would you guys recommend? The drangon slayer, commander, satellite seducer, or the pleading hot reed? I normally hunt up in forks and I am pretty much a newb at calling if that helps.
Thanks guys!

Contact him and let him no what you are looking for. I'm waiting for my reeds.
-
If you only want one call, I would go with the elk commander (I have modified the design slightly) and it works well for everything.
The dragon slayer is straight big bull sounds.
I can also make you some lighter calls that will be easy to learn on.
-
Ty,
Your calls are all packaged up and ready to roll
-
Tha is for the Replies guys! I went ahead and got the elk commander and the bugle tube ordered up last night. Jason I can't wait to get them and try them out.
-
Commander and dragon are my favorites!
-
i bought the slayer and the bugle tube last fall and i am a new caller as well and my buddies were surprised how good it sounded plus i found it pretty easy to use. jason is a great guy and makes some awesome calls.

These two bulls didn't like the Dragon Slayer as much as you guys do :chuckle:

If I could only carry two calls it would be a Sig Series (all around) and a Dragon Slayer.

Dragon slayer is a good call ,used it last season called in a 6x7 and 6x6 and a few smaller bulls. It worked well on both sides of the state.
-
I'm defiantly going to buy the dragon slayer. Hipefully Jason woll b at the Elma sportsman ships so I can get a few more of his calls
-

-
I wanted to try these out, but the Phelps guy did not return my 2 PMs. So unless a retail store start to carry them; I guess I am on the outs. :dunno:
-
Sky walker he has a website www.phelpsgamecalls.com (http://www.phelpsgamecalls.com) I believe

Skywalker I just went back through My Pm's and the only one i got from you is one about elk hunting an area and questions on elk calls (« Sent to: JPhelps on: January 29, 2013, 12:23:17 AM ») and I responded to those questions. Maybe with the site acting up the PM's didn't go through.
Let me know what you want in a PM or email (phelpsgamecalls@yahoo.com) and I will send some payment instructions  I apologize and always do my best to respond to everyone.

Just got my order from Jason last night. Love the bugle and the calls sound killer! Man I can't wait for elk season to get here! Thanks Jason!
-
Someone educate me please, does the reed get used with the call?
What are the differences in the different calls on your site Jason?
-
A diaphragm (also referred to as a mouth call or reed) fits inside your upper palate. It can be used for cow sounds and bull sounds. In order to make bull sounds they are usually used with an amplifying tube (grunt tube, vacuum hose, etc..).
I also have custom hand turned calls that use an external reed for cow calls (also referred to as open reed). These use a mylar reed, sloped tone board with an air channel and a barrel.
-
Ok, if I had one choice: should I be getting a reed, hand turned call, or the bugle tube?
I will be hunting in Eastern WA this year during modern firearm season.
-
Jason, Just started checking out you guy's youtube channel. Man its one of the best hunting related ones Ive came across. Keep up the good work. Gonna begin learning how to do calls for various animals soon as this is my first year into this new lifestyle. Cheers.

Hand turned or director. Either one is very easy to use and gives you the opportunity to communicate with the animals. A bugle won't do you allot of good in the rifle season, although you might hear some bugles it it's not very effective to do that late in the year. Phelps calls are very easy to use and very very consistent. :twocents:

I agree a hand turned custom or the director (all plastic external) will be the easiest to learn and most effective during rifle.
You will most likely use the call to settle the herd or stop the elk for a shot.

Ok, so I don't go in and just start blasting away to see if any elk come in?

Not during rifle season (unless you draw a special tag ;))
