Title: Golden Breeders Everett Area
Post by: fisheral87 on March 14, 2013, 03:02:10 PM
Looking for recommendations. I have done some research on breeders but would like to hear for people with some experience. Looking to get a pup or two for under 1k.

Thanks,

Al

Breeder near Arlington and has dogs bred for hunting and showing. Top notch reputation in the Golden community.

She's worked on trying to do more in the field in the last year or two. Not saying anything wrong with it but, her focus is show dogs and showing dogs. Hunting and hunting capabilities are not a focus in Tonya's breeding program. Lots of hair, big dogs don't usually equal real good hunting prospects. The golden breed is strongly divided between show and field just like the labs. "Most" show labs or Goldens don't have the aptitude to be field dogs. (there is one in every crowd but, few and far between)

Field Goldens and smaller, shorter hair and usually a handful. Same is true of labs. You've got to be energetic and alert to be a good hunting dog. It all comes down to the style of dog which suits you best. If you shoot ducks two or three times a year in milder conditions, any dog will do just fine and be an amazing companion and pet. If you duck hunt a couple weekends, phesant and quail hunt, get back to ducks later season and hit the goose blind all in one year....You probably best to get a dog who can stand up to the rigors of how you hunt. Being realistic about your own habits is probably the most important factor.

My field golden can be a handful at times but well worth it IMO.

I know the type of dog I'm looking for. However I was not really seeing that type during my research. Most were focused on show dogs as others have said.

The one breeder I did find was charging 1k per dog which was more than I expected but may be the going rate. Trying to figure out where my expectations are in relation to reality.

Quite a few field breeders out there but you may need to go out of that geographic area to find one

Goggle Zaniri -  they are just across border and have been involved with goldens for well over 20 years.

A couple of the best field Goldens on planet earth were bred in Marysville/Arlington. A few others from Vancouver, BC.

Top brass is a hot name in field goldens but they are not anywhere near here .I had goldens for years ...................... I'm just going to say this................ find the darkest red you can get almost irish setter colored, they do hunt the best.I had 5 total the lighter they  were the worse they got.I've hunted with several  dark red ones from other breedings that were really good too!

Chris is my next door neighbor and I would go to her to get a Golden.   One of my buddies is a Golden guy.  He searched the whole country for his latest pup and ended up with one of her pups.  You should atleast talk to her and see her dogs since you are so close.

That being said I am a Chesapeake guy.  Always have been, always will be.

I have her number if you would like it.  PM me

I spent last year training with Chris :) Not sure if she's got any litters planned- I do know of a field litter on the ground right now come to think of it. Excellent pedigree. I'll inquire if any available. Probably in the $1,500 range.

I have Chessie pups due in a few days-

Between the wife and I we have had six golden growing up, we know the breed and they fit us well. I am looking for recommendations on a quality golden breeder.

Thanks for all the posts I have started contacting many of the suggested kennels.

Melanie Foster in California breeds some very nice Goldens also- I can look up her contact info for you. I'd start with calling Conway and TNT kennels if you're looking for a very nice Golden.

TNT Kennels- John Gunn got Stanley Steamer from Chris and he became one of the highest pointed Goldens of all time. I've watched him run in field trials and he's an amazing dog.

I am getting the impression that $1000 - $1500 is not out of the ordinary?

It's the going rate for a well bred retriever with titles and full clearances from a respectable breeder. You can still get a very good lab in the $800 range
