Title: Just installed a new Cable slide, is this right?
Post by: Smossy on March 18, 2013, 10:00:33 PM
Just installed a new teflon cable slide by limbsaver (SIMS) and Im wondering If its the right one, Is the string supposed to be pulled over to the right side like that? This new one has alittle bit more arch to the right then the last one and the notches are offset alittle more.  But yeah, does it look right, or Do I need a deeper groove? Or is the string supposed to be perfectly vertical?  :dunno: :dunno:

looks good to me.... If there is no interference while shooting your good to go... Have your girl watch the arrow/ fletchings as you shoot into a target to make sure there is no contact.  :twocents:

Without seeing the way it comes off the cam it looks good to me!  About time for some new cables though.  Sending you some new peep tubing.  That stuff looks a little heavy and too thick.

Virgin teflon slides like Sims and RAM are one of the cheapest and easiest ways to improve your bows consistancy in all weather conditions.  The cheap ones manufacturers put on their bows have given cable guards a bad name.  When a simple replacement of the quality you have there will shoot every bit as good and often better than a roller guard.  They are mandatory around our place.  I generally replace the slide on every bow I work on.  I'm surprised good bow shops don't do it on every single cable guard bow that goes out their door.  Good upgrade Smossy

If you are close enough to a critter that a white cable slide is concerning...shoot the dang thing.  He's close enough to kill!

Thanks to your advice  Had to go get a new one. See if that solves my problem we talked about. Plus The old one is casted out of 2 piece plastic and looks like garbage. Totally different material.

I did a couple full draws without dry firing and everything seems to look good, The strings dont touch and the new cable slide is stopping about an inch or so from the end of the slide shaft. "Not sure what its called yet".

Cabelas. It was $15.99 for the cable slide. Waiting to get the restring though myself. Couldnt believe the price of winners choice custom color string since last year, Price has increased easily 50%
Sportsmans Warehouse quoted me about $220 for custom color 3 string.  :yike: For now my string shoots fine. lol Ill wait untill I get a manage to find a job.

smossy was your stock cable slide that long?  Mine is very small and holds the cables close to the rod, with a long one like you got the cam lean would be less, but I'd have less fletch clearance too.

Are you talking about the white thing? Or the fiberglass/composite shaft that it seats onto?

these are the strings I have now

the titanium pre-stretched Dakota - I picked out bronze and freckled green.   Pretty tickled with them.

Hows the quality? I was shooting for top of the line. Which I thought Winners Choice would be it. Probably why the price is so drastic.

the white thing, looking at your pics though I see it holds the string close to the rod.  It just seemed large to me, but the white would make it appear that way.
Title: Re: Just installed a new Cable slide, is this right?

The installed price also included serving the string stop area, new D loop with a sweet tie up job.
Might have been a tad over 100 bucks, but I kept adding crap onto the price (like a new string stopper)  :chuckle:

I'm just tickeled the way this bow shoots now, I've always hated this bow and now I'm diggin it.

The first time I shot 40 yards I punched 10 arrows in a 6 inch group with one flyer that made my group 10 inches - all were well within a paper plate.

I know I can get it better, that was the first time I shot it in almost 10 years.

Yeah its hard to see the shape with the white and the flash from the camera, It just all looks like one mangled mess lol But its about the same size as the stock one. It actually holds the strings closer to the rod then the stock ones, That was the whole reason I posted, I wasnt sure if that was ok or not but everyone assures me that its fine. Actually gives me more fletching clearance, not that I ever had a problem with it that... I dont think. But Like I said, it was one of the more expensive teflon slides and it was still only 15.99..
The price went up from there and those were mostly rollers, but being as the guy I am I listen to my mentors, He said SIMS Teflon... So thats what I got :chuckle:

Mine's tool less too, which means it's too easy to bump off sight

If you are shooting a d-loop no tubing needed, get rid of that peep and tubing. Get your self a G5 meta peep and speed her up a few fps plus one less thing to break.

I dont like meta peeps. Unless you have Grade A pre-stretched string they're not guaranteed to sit right. I like my peep and tubing, Never once had a problem and Its always where I want it.

I took my bow to xxx archery of rainier or and for 110$ bucks Cory did a tune and string and cable d loop and lane time to sight my bow in their g-strings are the best no twisting or stretching can't beat the service and price worth the drive of 2hrs for.

I use the rad peeps in lots of bows. As long as your tech know what he is doing and you have a decent string youll never have a problem. I like the less noise and not worring about breaking the tubing which sucks. All the metas and rad peeps ive installed have stayed straight its just a matter of settleing the string and aligning it.

As far as strings go, winners choice are WAY overpriced. There are many strings just as good if not better for a cheaper price. I like vapor trail myself, $94 for a set for hybrid cams.

You talked about shooting them from inside a popup blind, so i'd practice it just like that... I would practice a sitting and kneeling shot since that is likely what your are going to need to do. Coyote pick up on movement which makes them Hard to shoot with a bow, even from a tree stand.  :twocents:

I never laugh at that kind of thing, not in my DNA.

My last bow before this one was a hand me down.

My first bow (without suction cup arrows)  had wheels and a wooden riser and a glued on flipper for an arrow rest.

I converted that to a fishing bow and had great success with it

The area I used to shoot is off limits for carp hunting,  Kettle Arm of Lake Roosevelt.

Didn't mean shooting carp was illegal  :chuckle:
