Knight was able to reduce the weight of this rifle basically by offering a completely new stock assembly. At the same time as they moved to the Kevlar stock they incorporated a aluminum bedding block into the stock. The block along with the cantilever recoil lug (commonly called a 'forked recoil lug) offers the rifle stability never seen in a Knight rifle before. The Kevlar stock offered on many high end rifles offers durable construction with a greatly reduced weight factor.
Another thing Knight accomplished with the help of their partner Green Mountain Barrels - they contoured the barrel even more than the old Knight DISC Elite. Looking at the nose and crown of the new Ultra Lite you might be surprised at the 'slimness'
It is my belief this new stock and the added machining that Green Mountain had to accomplish was a very difficult decision for Knight. These two decisions were going to drive the cost of one of these rifles far beyond the every day price of other available muzzleloaders out there. I believe it was a tough decision and one that I am glad they made. I also believe that the are people out there that will opt for this rifle even though with the price. I am pretty sure that Knight knows that not everyone is going to run out and buy this rifle. Myself, I have been terribly bitten by the ML disease. I now hunt all year with a ML, both the regular rifle season here in Idaho and ML season. My center fire rifles have become safe dwellers.
Since, I have chosen to hunt both rifle and ML season with the same rifle. Because of this the rifle I choose to use I want it to have a lot of versatility, in that I want to scope and use 209 primers during rifle season, yet during ML season I have to return to cap ignition and for me here I have to shoot full bore lead conicals. The Ultra Lite allows that versatility as does the Extreme. So it really comes down the weight factor and some added features of Ultra lite.
As mentioned the weight factor is key, a couple of other added features to this rifle not found in the DISC is the Pacmayr recoil pad, the fully adjustable match grade trigger, and the higher tolerances held in the Mountaineer series rifles just to mention a few off the top of my head.

For us western hunters, I have been told that Bob’s has 4 of the new rifles coming in shortly and Wholesale Sports or soon to be again Sportsmans Whse. will be getting a good order in later in the spring. Both of these dealers should beat the Knight price easily… but then again demand has a lot to do with price…
Hopefully I will get an opportunity to shoot the new rifle soon…

Yes, the scope has Warne QR rings and drops right on the bases...
The Peep is suppose to keep zero - but I would never trust it - I would always try to verify it but - I know it will e darn close.

The rings and bases on the Knight sight will work with the NECG - I am not using that set though. I am using Warne Maximus steel bases and QR rings. The ones on the Knight sight are aluminum but should work fine. I just prefer the steel bases and rings.... BUT.. right now it is awful hard to fine the Warne bases for a Knight (M826826M) is the Warne part numbers for the bases.

Now you have me curious.. Just worked the bolt on mine and there is movement of the bolt after it comes out of lock up but it really is not excessive or any more than any of the other Knights. It really kinda of reminds me of one of those very long Mauser bolt action guns and the movement n them - but it certainly is not as long.

I think they are in the $750 neighborhood on the R&R website... I wonder what Bob's is charging... I think Sportsman's ordered 40 of them so they may have gotten a better price break than Bob's. Who knows...

You are correct - I did not know that Leupold had a QRW base - I guess I was thinking more of their QR base system like this..

Really thought I was going to get an opportunity to shoot today... but it is not going to happen... It is Vandal Friday on campus and we have a family friend bringing their daughter over for the event from Portland, the parents are bunking here. So my time is not going to come today...
But just as an update - I pulled the BP and pushed .458, 452, and 40 cal. sabots through the bore.
All sabots loaded very well and most importantly the Orange MMP, the HPH-24 and the big thick MMP Blue 40x50 sabot all loaded as I wanted and needed. No need of the Crush Rib or the 3p-EZ Load sabot for loading...

I seen the ultra lite. as I live about 3 miles from there. seems like a nice gun but for the price I would get the disc extreme. but that's just me.I have the disc. I am trying to shave some weight for the high buck hunt. I do love the disc.

It is an option. You can order it with the Western Kit or the 47 state legal 209 shooter. If you order the gun with either option the price is basically the same. If you order it with both options the price does increase for the extra blot housing and breech plug.
Most of the dealers in the Pacific Northwest have ordered it with the Western Kit installed.

I think you can find it at Bob's Sporting Goods in Washington for very near that price. Also Ranch and Home and Sportsman's Warehouse have it for about $45 more.
I agree it is an expensive rifle - darn expensive, but for myself since I use it for both rifle hunting and ML hunting - it works out OK. One of the big causes of the price tag is the Kevlar stock that it comes with - Kevlar stocks with the aluminum bedding block are darn expensive. But again for me in Idaho going up and down all the time (flat ground is hard to find here) the weight reduction is huge.

It would be for me, but you should handle it yourself. I never thought I would like a TH for hunting, on the bench it is GREAT, but for hunting I really thought it would bother me a bit... Well that feeling is long gone, a couple of hunting trips with a TH cured the whole problem...

They do have one Left handed thumbhole... But it is a fancy wood laminate. It is listed as a Mountaineer Stock but it will fit a Extreme.

OK... no left thumbhole made for the Bighorn... but...... the Extreme stock just might fit on a Big Horn - but it would have extra cut outs... for the bolt...
This is a MK-85 (basically the same as a Big Horn) installed in a DISC Extreme - Thumbhole stock. I shot it this way for several weeks before I got a RHTH made for the Big Horn.

All the pictures i see of the left handed wood option of the disc extreme always still has the bolt being on the right. :dunno: Is this just them showing the wrong picture or is the thumb hole for the left hand but the bolt still on the right?

You are correct... they do not change the bolt only the stock. I think but I do not know.... they have never changed the bolt to the other side basically because there are no speed repetitive shots.
