Finally got a cat! I have been putting out traps in all the places I have seen cats in the last few years and finally coaxed one in the trap. Not the prettiest as far as spots but is definitely quite large. It weighed just a hair under 30 lbs and seemed pretty long from toe to toe. Kinda pissed I left the camera home this morning so I didn't get any pictures at the trap or with him in the trap. Oh well, still pretty happy.
I also tried a new tactic a few days ago with concealment of this trap. I have a lot of cedar boards so I completely covered the outside of my trap with nothing more than thin wide pieces and set it at the end of an old road all by itself. No bushes or anything next to it to conceal it. Looked like a long wooden box.

Great looking cat! Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a pretty big bobbie to me. Great colors...congrats.

Congrats! nice cat. nice concealment job. What bait did you use?

A few beaver scraps and some salmon oil. I know visual attractants really help with cats so I put a small yellow rubber ducky in the back of the cage as well. I would imagine ducklings are big part of bobcat diets this time of year so I figured it couldnt hurt to try. Not sure if that was the deciding factor for the cat or not but I am gonna use them from now on.

Please....next time you visit the trap you have to post a pic of your set with the rubber duck.

Good looking cat. I need to take the trappers course.

So glad to hear you got one. Hooked for sure now!

Yeah that's a biggun! Congrats.

Nice Tom! Those coast cats look pretty good once you get them dryed off.

Nice bobbie!

Very cool! What are you going to do with it?

My first thought was to sell it with my other furs but considering its not going to be worth too much and because its my first cat, I plan to just have it tanned and put on the wall. Thankfully Bruce stopped by and helped me skin it properly for a possible future rug.

Thats a great cat, big boy, awesome first, couldnt hope for more. I bet you were stoked.

Super stoked!
I have been trapping for almost 2 months now and I have been getting used to seeing my trap doors always open. I was kinda shocked to see it closed this morning because it had only been sitting in that spot for 48 hours. Even more shocked to see a very large kitty in there staring back!

Man that's awesome! ! !

Heres a few pics of my setup. He actually mangled the door a little bit but not too bad. My other side of the cage has 1/2" x 1" and wasnt messed up at all so I think I may build the next traps with the smaller mesh on the ends. Thankfully the ducky made it thru the ordeal without any abuse so he'll get used again. :chuckle:

Great setup, he hammered on that door! one tough cat. thanks for bait info. and for sharing, good luck rest of the season

Congratulations! I remember how elated I was when I got my first cat and I get almost that excited when I get one now.

That is great thinking. Domestic cats LOVE to get in boxes and LOVE toys that look/act like helpless little snacks. I've been told Eastern WA cats get caught more because they are hungry, so irresistible new box and toy combo along with food bait could still catch Western WA cats even if they AREN'T all that hungry. Hmmm.
