I was at a sportsman show in Spokane today and there was a guy pushung a product called K9 Bluelite. It's supposed to be a kind of Gatorade type drink formulated for dogs.
It's supposed to replentish your dogs lytes, like Gatorade does ours. Got to admit I like Gatorade when I've done some heavy work on a hot day.
I must admit, I have always thought that a good diet and good clean well water met my dogs needs.
Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

check out the ingredients, I bet one of the first ones is malto dextrin. you can get it at a brewery supply store for around 5 bucks a pound. its a key ingredient in all your canine sports supplements.
I played around with it a few times after talking to my vet and I did notice that my dogs recovered a lot quicker after a hard hunt when I mixed it with their food and fed them within a half hour or so after excersising.

I've use some stuff called ReHydrate, can tell a difference.

Some 43 different ingredients, Maltodextrin is #26 on the list. Being that far down the list, it's gotta be a pretty small amount. 1 sample packet is supposed to treat 16 oz of water.
After some discussion and convincing him that 1 little sample was not going to tell me squat, the guy gave me 8 sample packs. May give it a shot shis summer and see if I note any difference or if it's just more "magic beans". So far, my cost is 0
Have see Rehydrate, but never tried it.

I swear by this stuff. Where you see the biggest difference is the third plus day of a week long trip. The dogs love it also.

I've tried the blue stuff but can't get my dogs to drink it.

Don't know if it makes a difference as I have not tried it yet myself, but the vendor told me to start out with a light mix, maybe 20 %, to begin with then work up to full strength as the dog gets used to it. Even the vendor claimed that many dogs will not want to drink it at full strenght to start with.

or they keep it diluted so people don't overdose their animals to the point where they need insulin.
I haven't looked at this particular drink your talking about - maybe its something new and revolutionary - but in most of them the ingredient that does all the work is maltodextrin, the rest of them are just additives that are put there to make the malto dextrin more palatable to the dog since most dogs hate the taste of maltodextrin. since dogs don't use electrolytes (salt and minerals) the same way we do most of the ingredients in these K-9 sports drinks are superfluous or just meant to attract would be customers at best.
if everyone just ordered a pound of malto dextrin off Amazon for a fraction of the price of these wonder drinks the market would dry up and people could spend their hard earned money on a different gimmick.

Honestly I think that good conditioning makes more of an impact on a days hunt than these supplements.
If you're out for an entire day a cup of food half way through, along with a rest, won't kill your dog either.
A second dog is a worthwhile investment too if you're hunting that much and that hard.

exactly. these aren't going to make your out of shape dog capable of hunting all day, just like Rockstar and cliff bars aren't going to help the hunter who leads a sedentary life style climb the chukar hills without throwing up a lung.
I was investigating it for extended trips where we would be hunting every day and trying to get the most out of the dogs during higher temps and it made a difference.
I don't like the idea of using these energy supplements or even just straight maltodextrin for the entire hunting hunting season or even training season.

Don't knock the stuff until you try it. I've seen to many dogs perk up after dragging after 4 hours on day four to hunt hard the last few days all day. My dogs don't drink enough when they are hunting hard but when you mix this stuff in they drink plenty. Try it out. I'm not sure what it does or what the magical ingredients are, but I do know it works. I'm talking about all day pheasant, sharptail, or chukar hunts that last more than a couple of days. I don't give my dog anything on a weekend hunt other than dog food and water.

I'm curious if anyone has tried Pedialite. It's cheap and that has been what I use when the dog is getting over exerted. It seems to help.
-
I've used unflavored pedialyte for vetrinary purposes, prescribed by the vet for dehydration due to the screaming squirts from drinking alkali tainted water in montana. They like it and it sure helps a dog that is feeling poorly, feel better.

I always keep a couple bottles in my dog first aid kit for the reasons wilweeds stated.

Thanks for the info, will look into keeping some of that in my dog bag too.

Great input and opinions by all. I hunted the first half of last season without using any supplements and my dog did great endurance wise.......he did obviously get tired by days end though. The second half of the season I tried K9-Restart by TechMixGlobal at my brother's recommendation. I was able to see a pretty decent increase in my dogs energy level at the end of the day when I gave him some of the supplement.
Where I truly noticed the supplement work it's magic was with my buddies dog who I believe is 8 or 9 years old and had already hunted 3 hard days prior. I gave my buddies dog some of the supplement and just minutes later could see an immediate difference in his energy level and overall demeanor.
Both dogs are in fantastic shape and no matter how well the dog's conditioned, long hard days of hunting will eventually take it's toll.
I am not a big supplement guy for both me or my dog but believe in this product.
Looking forward to next bird season!!!
