Title: ???'s on primers

I've been using speer plastic cases and plastic bullets that are powered by the primer only. 
Got me thinking of other possible practice applications.
Is there something that explains the different power levels of different primers?
Specifically, I want to know if 209 shotgun primers are more/less powerful than large pistol primers?
