Title: wolf trappers education course Lewiston Idaho
Post by: dbfalls on April 04, 2013, 10:48:29 AM
Just finished the Wolf trappers education course last weekend in Lewiston. Great class very informative. The instructors were Jeff Ashmead a retired government trapper of 34 years, and Lonie Austin an old trapper from Idaho. Jeff all so offers a two and half day out in the woods seminar for training in wolf trapping. Go to inhttp://wolfsnaring.com/products , They talk about the wolf count and said that not all wolves are counted, the lone males that don't run with the pack and others that get missed. They also mentioned that after the packs are done whelping (having pups) this spring there would be additional 400 to 500 wolves running around. OH! Idaho allows you to use real traps for trapping. Lonie couldn't stress enough the ethics of trapping. They both spent about an hour on this subject. They also said loose the camera phones, don't need some wolf in a trap ending up on FB. If you need to take a picture do it on you tailgate of your truck and share with your friends but NOT ON FB. An other thing they allow you to do is have road kill in your possession and use it for bait only in the Panhandle. you have to notify IDFG within 24 hrs, and fill out form CE-51 and obtain a salvage permit within 72 hrs. Just a few poits I pick up.

I talked to a buddy that hunted in Idaho this year, said it was very bad. He was there for 11 days and hunted about 18miles a day for 6 of the days. He seen to does and about 10 Wolf kills. He said everyday he seen sign of Wolves and seen them but no deer. He said they have killed the deer off. He goes every year for the past 15years and this has been the worst he has seen... Just wanted to share that little bit of info.
