Since wdfw has the tooth look up online what's the oldest bear you've killed in Washington?
Mine is an 11 year old female shot back in 08.
-
No word yet on my fall bear.....I checked the other day. D....you got the link handy for others?

14, shot him in 2009
-
She wasn't big at all but only had one canine tooth left.
-
Thanks for posting a link h20hunter.
-
If you can post pics and weights if you got them.
-
My spring bear last year / only bear was 6 years old.
-
My Idaho spring bear was 12 years old when I got him last year.
-
Shot a fall sow that was 13 1/2 yrs old per the state.
-
I've shot a couple tasty 3 year olds :bfg:
-
2004 sow with my muzzy. It was 18.5 years old. Beautiful hide. I was very surprised at how old it was. Did my research and discovered that blackies can live to the age of 25 in the wild!
-
That's really cool, I just looked mine up and it was only 3 years old. I really thought it would be older because it was pretty big.
-
My 11 year old sow was probably only 175lbs live weight
-
I have shot 3 bears they were 3/5/8.
-
boar 15 1/2 yo
-
sow 10.5,sow2.5,sow 1.5,sow 19,and boar 5.5
The older sow's teeth looked very good. If she didn't run in to me she would of lived for many more years.
-
A 16 year old sow was my oldest bear no pic of that one on the computer. Here is a picture of my 13 year old sow. I have shot 4 sows of 10 years old I dont think one went over 200 lbs.
-
How long does it take for it to show?? My taxidermy did it all for me, I wonder if he gave them my wild ID. I would have loved to known :bash: :bash:
-
15.5 years old, spring sow in the blues back in 2006 or 07

If they don't have the teeth that your supposed to send in, are they too old? :dunno:
-
I'm not sure what to tell you.

That must have been a cub, was there still milk around his lips! :yike:
-
The book bear (boar) that I got this year is probably 16 years old but haven't aged him. Just going by the bear a friend got that was aged at 15 and mine looked a to be worn down a bit more.
-
100 years old this year...

Poor thing spent way to much time in the den playing big slob hunter on his WI instead of outside frolicking with his sibling, obese cub syndrome! :yike:

14.5 years and 23.5 years are my two oldest bears.

The oldest bear for me was 21.5 yrs old. I have the card from WDFW, prior to the Wild ID number. 7.5' nose to tail, weighed close to 500 pounds, and yes it was a true 500 pounds. Actually would have weighed more but he had a broken front leg and was missing half the front paw. His leg was atrophied and mostly just bone and skin, his spine was curved from tri-podding for so long.

Well according to the state 3 1/2 and 150 lbs. got got a 240 lb Er that was only 2 1/2 as well as a 130 that went 2 1/2. That's it for me

Is there a way to age them other than the WDFW tooth method? Long story but my ID number did not get submitted with my tooth.
-
We have killed hundreds of bear, the oldest boar was in WA the card came back to the hunter at 24.5, that bear was #7 in SCI at the time and was the heaviest we ever got. The oldest sow was an 80 pound spring bear in Idaho, they said she was 27, amazingly small and very skinny. Both were killed with hounds quite a few years ago, we have not killed anything close to that old in a long time. Maybe 15-18 is the oldest bear we've killed in recent years (my own estimate based on teeth).
-
12 and 9 back in the late 80's promise land. Lots of 1 1/2 year olds. Rick
-
My oldest bear was 16. 300lb boar
-
1997-19.5 years old and just over 500 pounds, taken out of the Colockum was my oldest and biggest.
-
Of the ten bears I have killed I have ages on 8 of them. The youngest was a 3 year old sow that I called in and killed from about 25 yards with my 300 Win Mag in September of 2006.
Took this 7 year old boar with my 45 Colt revolver at about 25 yards May of 2007 in the Dayton unit:
Took this 9 year old sow in the West Blues unit May of 2008:
Took this 10 year old boar in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness of Idaho May of 2003:
Took this 10 year old boar in SE Alaska May of 2004:
Took this 12 year old boar in the Blue Creek unit May of 2005:
Took this 13 year old boar (my biggest) May of 2001 in the Wenaha Wilderness:
Took this 17 year old boar (my oldest) with my 45 Colt revolver after calling it in September of 2009 in the Blue Creek unit:
Skull from 17 year old boar:

Show off! :chuckle:
-
You have got some nice colored bears! I hope to shoot one in May. I have killed 2 blacks and one black with a blonde skunk stripe down it's back.
-
Carp where are you hunting in may?
-
BC
-
Awesome good luck
-
Thanks a colored bear is high on my list. I hope I don't run into a couple big black bears first. My trigger finger might get itchy :chuckle:
-
Carp- hope you are able to get a color phase up there in BC. We have more colored bears than black ones here in the Blues which is where I have done most of my bear hunting. I hope to get a blonde one this spring. A buddy of mine and I got drawn for the West Blues units of Oregon again this year. Blonde is the only lower 48 color phase I am missing and I will take a smaller blonde one if I get the chance though not a dink. Mostly at this point in my bear hunting I am only after mature boars but as I said I would take a smaller blonde one.
-
Thanks. Have you ever seen a big mature blonde bear? It seems like the blondes never get as big as the blacks and the chocolate bears. I can't remember ever seeing a blonde that I thought was legit over 150 or so. My dad has all but a cinnamon. That or a blonde would be my first choice. It would be nice to have a rug in every color :chuckle:
-
Carp you're not going to go up to BC and shoot one of them little bitty devils off a bait pile are ya?
-
Nope no bait spot and stalk and dogs!
-
good on ya
I'd like to see some dogs in action one of these days.
Maybe hire Bearpaw to run me a big tom
-
I am sure he could put you on one! :IBCOOL:
-
How far in BC are you going? Way up north?
Haven't seen any bears running around on the hillsides yet, should be soon though. Once they're really out I see them pretty much daily on my commute.
I got drawn for GMU 105 this spring but haven't had the time off to hunt yet.
I'll be hunting a day here and there through April and then I'll hit it hard early May.
Gotta fill two tags, boy and I did a group draw.
-
It's only like 3hrs from the Washington boarder.
-
Carp- I have seen some big blonde bears but overall I agree that it is rare for the blonde bears to get large. Not sure why that is. Last year I drew the Dayton unit spring bear tag and saw a good sized blonde bear 3 different times that I tried to get but it outsmarted me every time. Maybe this will be the year. When my buddy and I drew the same OR unit in 2008 we saw a bunch of blonde bears so my hopes are high.
-
I don't know why it is either. I hope you can find a big blonde and whack him :IBCOOL:
-
I've posted this pic before but I think this bear was a good sized bear. I took this pic hand held at 18x zoom from 1-1.5 miles away. I didn't expect a good picture but you can see the color.

I think I remember seeing that one before josh. It sure looks snow white!!! Looks like a good sized bear and for sure not small.
-
I like that bear. Kinda wish we were prepared to kill him when we saw him. Neat bear for sure up almost in mt. goat country.

You going back this year for one more chance at it? :dunno:
-
I wouldn't mind. No deer up there though and there's a challenge getting there, hike aside. Probably end up somewhere else with hopefully more deer.
