Anyone ever hunt them?
Is it as hard as they say?
They say the archery hunt is stupid? Is it?
Inquiring minds want to know.......
-
Have never done it, but think that I will start applying next year for the muzzleloader tag. I know the archery tag is the easiest to draw, followed by the muzzleloader and rifle. But you have just as good of a chance drawing the rifle tag as you do winning the lottery. Everything that I have read is the archery hunt is pretty hard. I have read a few times guys setting up blinds in the rocks and waiting with archery gear. Also seems like most of what I have read, most of the guys were archery hunting. Most likely because they are the easiest to draw.
-
I heard that the area they live is brutal/ seriously dangerous with rock slides and cliff's and that the IBEX is like as cracked out whitetail, with a billy goats feet and antelope eyes as far as getting close :o
-
Put in for it every year..........(rifle)
As hardcore of an archery hunter as I am, I didn't think I could do it.
-
My buddies dad drew the archery tag this year. I will let you know how they do. i want ot go to one of the "Stans" to hunt them if anybody would ever be interested let me know! I have sources to good hunts under $5000.
-
New Mexico Ibex? Are they transplants from Europe or some high fence deal?
-
Pat Meitin has bowhunted them a couple times, I believe. My buddy in CO is good friends with him. I will give him a call and see what I can dig up.
They have Gemsbok (Oryx) too and from what I remember, those tags are easier to draw. Anyone who's hunted Africa will agree that they are one of the most beautiful game animals on earth.
-
Put in for them too. :)
-
I'd like to go to Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan at some point. They seem like an other worldly places.
I applied for the NM rifle hunt this year, No dice.
No Oryx mule for me Im waiting until im old and am looking for a road hunt.
-
Eyeballing it. Tempting as all get out. Was going to bail with the fees up font, but darn that might be fun. Still too chicken to try it with a bow.
-
Im 50/50 for the rifle hunt...........not sure what im going to do yet........will be a last minute decision if I apply.
-
Pretty sure I am going to throw down for it.
-
The Ibex are chuckling at the stick bow....... :chuckle:

I have been down there. If you are not a bad ass hunter don't bother. Even with rifle your chance are slim unless you can shoot 500 yds. The tag is a little over $1600. Out of 100 archery permit this year only 2 or three people stuck one. A guy down there asked my dad how much money he paid for the tag. He said $1600. The guy said you could have gave me $1600 buck and I would have beat you with a stick. Here is a pic.

That Elk is absolutley amazing. The crown on that thing is FREAK NASTY!
Sweet Bull.
-
Oh and by the way, I would love to take on one of them there Ibex critters with my bow. That would be a challenge worth writing home about.
-
are u shooting these critters Vid, or on the hunt with other guys. Kinda resembles some of those gov or raffle tag animals. Great animals!
-
Awesome pic's videoman....
-
I personally shot the barbary sheep and the elk. The rest of those I have filmed and helped those guys. I have shot a 180 3/8 Rocky Mountain bighorn from washington. By the way none of those are raffle or gov tags just permits.
-
I could fill up a whole page of gov tag pic that I have filmed and help out on. I have a dvd with them all. That is just about done.

Anyone ever seen this video: http://www.wallagogoutfitters.com/wallagog-ibex-hunting.wmv
No wonder they are so hard to get with archery equipment or any other method for that matter!
