This hen kept herself between the gobbler and all the other hens. Kinds like saying " Stay away form my man"
-
Maybe she was the fat chick of the group saying "stay away from my girls". What a cloaca block! :chuckle:
-
I have two hen turkeys at home (domestic) and one of the hens is always strutting around like a tom.
-
lesbian turkey. :chuckle:

lesbian turkey. :chuckle:
Tastes like chicken
-
If she had a beard I am pretty sure she would be legal :dunno:
-
:chuckle: So no youth hunters stopped by to beg you to let them fill their tags :dunno: :o
-
Two of the twelve hens this morning were in strut at times, just another way for them to show dominance.
-
I've never seen that!
Now I wish you would have asked the question before you posted the pictures to see if any real loud mouths would tell you you are crazy. :chuckle:
Cool pic, thx for sharing.

Gringo ...they actually do it often ...Not that I am a loud mouth but we see it at least once or twice per season  just the boss hen showing she is the queen of the roost :chuckle:
-
I have even heard them gobble! Not a big booming gobble but still a gobble.
-
Wow I never knew.

You may have seen this video before, but it is one of the COOLEST pieces of footage I've ever seen. A whole bunch of Goulds hens showing dominance around a couple DSD decoys. Check out the hen at around 3 minutes in. Just really, really cool.... Also, some great sounds to work on. Practice your mouth calls until you sound like these girls.

I have seen a couple of hens go into a semi strut posture. Never seen one full strut like that bird :yike: pretty cool.
-
Scissor sister hens....
-
I've had old laying hens grow spurs and a comb and start crowing. It certainyl could be a hormonal thing. I'd imagine turkeys could easily be the same
-
come to think about it, I had a female pheasant start growing male plummage as well......
-
Saw one out here strut at a hen decoy as she led the gobbler in, missed him though with my bow.
-
Seen hens in the tree strutting too! And had a hen on a next one day, near where I set up, each day she got off the nest, she would make a broken gobble like a jake. Not sure what she was doing. Only thing I could think of, was trying to keep the other toms in the area from coming around and breaking up her nest.??
