Title: Ridgerunner'S moose update
Post by: Ridgerunner on October 03, 2008, 08:12:07 PM
Well our experience was similar to Robodad's in some ways, not so similiar in others, I just got home and have 4 kids and a wife that need a little attention so I'll get something written up within a few days, long story since Monday night when we started scouting to today we saw 13 bulls and 10 cows.  Haven't killed anything yet, came close a couple of times.  Craig will fill in with some pics soon too.  All in all a great time despite the weather(I got sunburned) and I can see why Moose hunting is so addicting, nothing like having one of those guys coming in at you full speed.   :chuckle:.

I ain't done yet boys, will head back over sometime in early November when the leaves are down and we have a little snow.  Filling the tag shouldn't be too much of a problem, I just need a few more days to find the one I really want.  Saw him the night before the opener.  Nice long palms, double brows, good points up top and about 45-46 wide.  If I can't find him there are plenty in there that will fill the bill.

I were not kidding about a bunch of bulls in there ;) good job on not shooting the teasers. many many times I have heard/seen hot cows in ther during elk and the former late deer season.

brian, in the 2nd to last pic....that is the draw I would look at, both deep in the bottom, and up near the top. I suspect the "sign" pic is of that draw near the top where the road brushes in.....where that road does brush in, look in the bottom of that CC. there is a road down there so it is possible to get out. I would surely spend a few hours on that area.

All the moose hunting reports rekindles my desire to make sure I'm killing moose someday somewhere.   I'm lovin this moose season.  I can't wait to get home from work everyday just to read the moose reports!!   Go get'em.   Once in a lifetime in wash.   I'd prolly end up homeless, wifeless, and jobless if I had that tag.

When you get over there Brian, take the first road to the right after the gate then stay on the next road to the left, there is some beautiful country back in there and we seen quite a few bulls back there, it is about 3-4 miles in. Good luck and get a big one, I can't wait to read the stories and see the pics !!!

Go to work Charlie, they are trying to load it whole into the trailer and then head home, its going to be hours before he gets here and has time to do it. He may give the okay to Craig to post one pic but I wouldn't count on it.

Um...do you want to move a Mack truck whole?  And, what do you do with the rest of it in your suburban neighborhood once you get the meat and stuff off?  My wife would freak out if I showed up with a whole moose in the driveway.  That is going to piss some antis off.  I love it.  What a great problem to have.  This experience makes me relive the experience I had last year.  Good times.  (I think the whiskey is talking.  I better stop)

"That is going to piss some antis off."

As I was driving west in Montana yesterday I had a little car pass me with one of those hitch receiver racks on it and had his antelope tied on it.  Those kind of things are a little more accepted in Montana. I didn't have my camera available quick enough.

Great job, let's see him and I leave for my moose hunt next Friday.

Ok, the work is done and I'm showered but I don't have any pics to post as I am still in Spokane and now home yet.  I will give a few more details on the bull though.  He is right at 40.5" wide so he's not quite as big as the some of the bulls out there, he's an 8x9, has really nice wide palms, split brows and good palm length.  When I found out I drew the tag I looked at every picture of moose I could find and the way this bull lays out is EXACTLY how I wanted my bull to look.  I had set a goal of a 40" bull, 7 or 8 points a side with good tine length and this bull has all of the above.  Someone was pretty close to when the bull hit the ground, it was around 8:10 if I remember right.  Saw 3 bulls this morning and 11 cows, the action was fast and furious, pics forthcoming tomorrow but they will be worth the wait.
