Any ORV enthusiasts on the site? I normally don't drive to any destinations. But I've been wanting to get up to Van Epps pass for a few years now. I haven't been able to talk anyone into going yet. I don't have a high-clearance vehicle. I've considered just hoofing it up. I will probably use my two feet this summer If I can't talk anyone into driving.
It would be interesting to check out the old mine site. I would also like to fish Spirit Lake and maybe scramble up Harding.
Anyways, let me know if anyone is interested in the area for a summer trip. I'd be willing to pay for gas and dinner/lunch also.
-
That looks like a fun run in the Jeep. I'll have to put that on my bucket list. When were you thinking about going?
-
What mine site are you talking about? Is it around St. Helens ?
-
Jeepasaurusrex, I'd like to go as early as possible. I was thinking around the last week of July. It depends when road becomes drive-able. Sometimes those high pass roads get pockets of snowdrift into the early summer.
Boss .300. This particular ORV road is up off the teanaway. It goes up on a ridge by the Kittitas/Chelan county line. There's a few old mine shafts I guess.
-
I've been talking with a bunch of other 4-wheelers about this trip. That time of year sounds about right to be able and make it to the top.
-
Sounds like a good run for the ol' KLR650 as well... hey jeepasaurus, figure we could easily fit the bike in front or behind the jeep on that awesome trailer you got, right? :chuckle:
I'd be all about hiking in to fish spirit lake, too. What's in it?
-
The Jeep rides nice the farther forward it is. There should be plenty of room after the Jeep, or in the back of the truck. :chuckle:

Overnighter sounds cool to me. Would give plenty of time to hike in the wilderness to fish Spirit Lake.
-
I don't hike anymore (3 knee surgeries, need a 4th) so I could hold down the fort at camp.
-
Humm wonder if i could make this in my nissan?? Anybody on here ever run it, the map jeep put up says it is an easy trail.
-
You could make it no problem. If you get stuck, I've got a winch... :chuckle: :chuckle:

Cool, i have a winch also with a really cool heavy heavy duty mounting plate..... :chuckle:

Is there a place up that way called gallaghers head?
-
Hmmm...might have to finally pull the engine out of my '72 K5 Blazer and get to work on it. I have all the new parts in the barn, just had too many other obligations recently.
Is the trail wide enough for a full size Blazer?
Sounds like a fun weekend.

Been reading the post and sounds fun! Would this be a fun trail for our three year old daughter without traumatizing her? :chuckle: :dunno:

Had a '69 K5 during my senior year in high school... what an awesome rig that was. Get it going!

Gallagher Head Lake splits off of the same road.

Yes Sir, I love mine. 4" lift w/2" extra body lift, 37" boggers, built SBC 400ci. She's definitely a billy goat. But, took her bogging a few years back and sucked some muddy water into the engine. She now has low blood pressure as bearings were damaged by silt. Need to pull engine and freshen her up! Have new cam, bearings, oil pump etc. But, other projects have been keeping me busy. Went out behind barn this weekend and uncovered her, as I planned to ressurect her soon!

We should make a mount so you can put it on the front of your trucks.

Sounds like you are voluntering, thanks.... :). that would be better than now just using it in the receiver hitch...
-
Lets do it. I'm getting low on steel, but we could fab up something.
-
An over night sounds awesome to me too
Lets make this happen when the snow melts.
-
The weekend of July 27th will not work for me. That is the weekend they are dedicating the statue of Doug Vose III in Concrete. I have been working with the family on this project for almost a year. Going to be a big day. Multiple HALO jumps into the airport, static and other helicopter displays... big day for everyone.
-
How about the weekend of July 20th?
-
End of july dont work for e thays when my daughter is due :bash: i say june, spring snow run would be way more fun
-
I am thinking late June, early July. With the way the snow pack is this year, late June should be doable no problem.
-
Is this still a go? I just installed 4.10 gears and lockers front/rear in the Jeep. :4w:
-
I'm still game if someone has an empty seat for me. It will still be a couple weeks though. I just saw a TR from the area and there is still a decent amount of snow on that ridgeline. Hopefully this warm weather coming with knock that down though.
-
Any idea on a date?
I'm out the next couple of weekends, but he the weekend of July 12 open, so far. Or later in the month but the weekend of the 20th I'm busy.
-
I think the weekend of the 12th would give the snow a bit of a chance to melt (as well as give me more time to plan.)
-
Hey justsaw this thread and thought COOL. I was thinking about taking a run up there one of these days just to check it out. Could ya use company? I don't know about a weekender but I could be up for a day trip and some scouting depending on the date, can't mess with my salmon fishing.
-
Im out the weekend of the 12th have an event to go to saturday, and thats also jamboree weekend in naches. I guess im out of this one cause my kids due thenext week. Have fun guys
-
Finished up the install of the gears and lockers in the Jeep today. Took it for a test drive. :IBCOOL:
-
ahem, Referring back to the original post. I'm still willing to pay for gas and buy lunch for whoever is willing to lend me an extra seat.
-
I got ya covered...
-
This is a killer thread. Wish we had a trail beast.
-
What do you have? Chances are a highly modified offroad rig won't be needed. That just happens to be what I drive.
Here is some pics I've seen from the trail.

Smossy has an Caddy!
Perfect for the trail!
-
Use a Sawz-all, you can fit 35s under it very easily!
-
Is there a date for this scouting trip? I got drawn for Muzzy cow elk in Willipa Hill and need to my weekends. Not thinking filling my cow tag will be difficult I just haven't been down there for years and with the new Weyco rules need to relearn my way around.
-
I do need to put together a scouting trip real soon. Anyone up for a quick trip over the hill and to check that area out? My F-350 dually does not make a good scouting vehicle....
-
Tagging to see when you folks are planning to do this run. If it works out might have to join.
-
July 12th it is then

Well, Im out for this camping trip. Cant find a 3.5 lift spring for the life of me :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
Everyone is out of stock and will not have any available until late July >:(
Going camping next weekend for the 4th with all my jeeping buds but I will be only one not on the trail :cryriver:
Thought I found a place, was going to cost me an extra $20 but to get it in time for wheeling, no big deal, then I get word yesterday that they also can't get it until the 26th of July.
Looks like I will be fishing and riding my bike next weekend :dunno:
-
I'll bring my range rover out for some trail runs. Haven't done a lot in it yet it's always a good time.
-
So if it's the weekend of july 12th, do you guys want to go up Friday afternoon through Sunday or Just Sat. Morning?
Let's get a roll call of who all is going:
I'm 1 I guess, and Jeepasaurusrex is 2. Others?

Im new here but wouldnt mind making it out to meet a few of you guys and screw around in the woods a bit. My truck should be capable enough for this trail and I may have one open seat for a passenger. Once you guys get a firm date set Ill let you know.
-
July had really filled up for me. I have a friend who was just up there and said the snow is still really deep on the road farther up. I will be gone Aug 2-11, so any time after that would really work good for me.

-
Yea, I am not going to be able to make it in the month of July at all.... :bash:
-
I cant get the front spring for my jeep until the of July. Been trying to find one for 2 months and found out last week that they will not be in stock until July 26. So I'm out for next weekend. :bash: :bash: :bash:
Aug is looking better and better for me :dunno:
-
Hey Pete go to wright spring of center st. Have them build you one. :twocents:

Well, this trip is looking cancelled. Looks like I'm headed to the Chelan Sawtooths for some giant High-Lakes trout instead. 8)

I checked with them all ready, they only build for heavy duty trucks. If not I would have had them build me some the last time.
