Title: ORV enthusiasts? EDIT: Van Epps Mine trip 6/12-13
Post by: MLHSN on April 10, 2013, 10:26:01 PM
Any ORV enthusiasts on the site? I normally don't drive to any destinations. But I've been wanting to get up to Van Epps pass for a few years now. I haven't been able to talk anyone into going yet. I don't have a high-clearance vehicle. I've considered just hoofing it up. I will probably use my two feet this summer If I can't talk anyone into driving.

It would be interesting to check out the old mine site. I would also like to fish Spirit Lake and maybe scramble up Harding.

Anyways, let me know if anyone is interested in the area for a summer trip. I'd be willing to pay for gas and dinner/lunch also.

That looks like a fun run in the Jeep. I'll have to put that on my bucket list. When were you thinking about going?

What mine site are you talking about?  Is it around St. Helens ?

Jeepasaurusrex,  I'd like to go as early as possible.  I was thinking around the last week of July.  It depends when road becomes drive-able.  Sometimes those high pass roads get pockets of snowdrift into the early summer.

Boss .300.  This particular ORV road is up off the teanaway.  It goes up on a ridge by the Kittitas/Chelan county line.  There's a few old mine shafts I guess.

I've been talking with a bunch of other 4-wheelers about this trip. That time of year sounds about right to be able and make it to the top.

Sounds like a good run for the ol' KLR650 as well... hey jeepasaurus, figure we could easily fit the bike in front or behind the jeep on that awesome trailer you got, right?  :chuckle:

I'd be all  about hiking in to fish spirit lake, too.  What's in it?

The Jeep rides nice the farther forward it is. There should be plenty of room after the Jeep, or in the back of the truck.  :chuckle:

Hmmm...might have to finally pull the engine out of my '72 K5 Blazer and get to work on it.  I have all the new parts in the barn, just had too many other obligations recently.

Is the trail wide enough for a full size Blazer?

Sounds like a fun weekend.

Yes Sir, I love mine.  4" lift w/2" extra body lift, 37" boggers, built SBC 400ci.  She's definitely a billy goat.  But, took her bogging a few years back and sucked some muddy water into the engine.  She now has low blood pressure as bearings were damaged by silt.  Need to pull engine and freshen her up!  Have new cam, bearings, oil pump etc.  But, other projects have been keeping me busy.  Went out behind barn this weekend and uncovered her, as I planned to ressurect her soon!

The weekend of July 27th will not work for me. That is the weekend they are dedicating the statue of Doug Vose III in Concrete. I have been working with the family on this project for almost a year. Going to be a big day. Multiple HALO jumps into the airport, static and other helicopter displays... big day for everyone.

I'm still game if someone has an empty seat for me.  It will still be a couple weeks though.  I just saw a TR from the area and there is still a decent amount of snow on that ridgeline.  Hopefully this warm weather coming with knock that down though.

Any idea on a date?

I'm out the next couple of weekends, but he the weekend of July 12 open, so far. Or later in the month but the weekend of the 20th I'm busy.

I think the weekend of the 12th would give the snow a bit of a chance to melt (as well as give me more time to plan.)

Hey justsaw this thread and thought COOL.  I was thinking about taking a run up there one of these days just to check it out.  Could ya use company? I don't know about a weekender but I could be up for a day trip and some scouting depending on the date, can't mess with my salmon fishing.

What do you have? Chances are a highly modified offroad rig won't be needed. That just happens to be what I drive.

Here is some pics I've seen from the trail.

Everyone is out of stock and will not have any available until late July  >:(

Going camping next weekend for the 4th with all my jeeping buds but I will be only one not on the trail  :cryriver:

Thought I found a place, was going to cost me an extra $20 but to get it in time for wheeling, no big deal, then I get word yesterday that they also can't get it until the 26th of July.

Looks like I will be fishing and riding my bike next weekend  :dunno:
