i am trying to remove a scope base off of my thompson encore. i have broken two torx head screw drivers. can i heat the base with a propane torch with out damaging the blueing?
any other suggestions??? :bash:

i would try a hair dryer :dunno:

Sure, but heating it up moderately is the key. Don't try to get it up to tempature in a minute or so. Heat it evenly, I would concentrate on the screws themselves and not the complete base. I would use it as a last resort, try a hair dryer or heat gun first.

You need 400* to kill the loctite. A soldering iron works great, or put the torx bit in the flame and transfer the heat to the screws.

400*. Might first try a couple firm taps on the screw-heads with a hammer and your driver. May spread the threads a little and loosen them up, in case they are just torqued too tight. Then try the heat!

heat gun.

Unfortunately you should of tried heating them up with a hair dryer or heat gun first once you knew that they were not coming out easy ...Some people / gun smiths will put a dot of loc tight on the threads but they usually come out fairly easy ...sounds like someone over tightened them or they are rusted in place :twocents: Like stated above ----hair dryer or heat gun but be carefull not to heat them to much
