Opening day, general season, no late season tags.....one week to hunt. Archery, Muzzel or rifle. Not concerned withthe shot but the animal. Would you put your tag on him..............

I'll let you think this one over for awhile, then I'll post another......
-
I would, but I am not picky
Wife say,"HELL YEAH!" :chuckle: :IBCOOL:
-
Yes I would shoot the buck and would be happy.
-
i'd poke a hole in him and put him in the freezer
-
A couple of questions first-
1-Have I scouted the area and is that the best buck I've seen?
2-What's the pressure like? Am I alone and the deer are acting normal or is the hillside alive with orange?
Most likely, no, unless I answered yes to number 1 and the pressure is unreal.
-
Oh yeah!! I dont have enough time to search for grand daddy and Im hungry!
-
In a heart beat. No questions asked. Mature animal and there are birds waiting to be hunted so I would get after it straight away.
Great pic.
-
THis is general season, Washington state.....note the sagebrush...that means lots of pressure. :)

Ill say yes but I've never had that opportunity... and i would be so shocked that i would think I'm dreaming and would let him walk on by. :chuckle:
-
id prolly screw it up and forget to take my safety off and he would get away
-
Just don't get too excited and shoot the tree. :)
-
Any thoughts on this one.........

I'd have to pass on both, even with a short season. Maybe archery on first but definitely not rifle or smoke pole for either.
-
Pass on the second.
-
Pass on 2nd unless I was looking for meat.
-
I would kill the first one but not the second one.
-
Id shoot both of them without hesitation. :IBCOOL:
-
I also shoot the second one....
-
I'd pop both--I'm a relatively younger hunter and therefore have lower standards... :hunt2:
-
That second one looks a lot like the buck I took last year, I think I would pass on both . I believe I know where the pics are and would hold out for a little better buck. :dunno: It would be hard to pass on them but if it was the first day then I hope I would find more deer. :twocents:
-

I would not have any problems shooting either one. I shoot does just as well. Nothing to be ashamed of.
-
id have to pass on the second.
-
This year I'd shoot both in a heartbeat... need the meat for school! If I had a week to hunt, and wasn't worried about meat I'd pass on the second, and probably pass on the first as unless it was after the 4th or 5th day of the hunt...
Michael
-
I would pass on both just because i shot my deer on the first day last year and i couldnt chase them in the late season but i would take the first one in the late archery season probably .
-
I'd put both of them to sleep :chuckle:
-
If I was archery hunting I would probably shoot either one. If I was rifle hunting then I would pass on both.
-
If I was hunting in Washington I would shoot the first one but not the second one. If I was in Idaho I would pass on both.
-
General season Washington, I'd convert either one to rectangular white freezer paper packages. Out of state, they'd walk.
-
Are you kiddin'?? They both look like breakfast sausage, deer steaks, and tenderloin to me!!!!
BOOM!!!!!!!!
-

BOOM!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't be able to get a round in the chamber fast enough.
I'm not all about the antlers. If I come across a monster, thats great. if I come across either of those, thats great also.
-
The arrow couldn't leave the string fast enough on the first one, the second one would probably have a little more time before the arrow flew just in case there was a bigger one behind him.
JBar
-
It would be hard but I think I would pass on the first one. Looks like he could grow a little bit more. The second I would not even have to think about it. Let em do some breedin.
-
i'd shoot that first one, i'd like to get a blackie this year that size
-
OK.....another scenario for you guys. If you were to have a late permit. One of the Methow or Entiat units. Would you take him or not. For those that haven't stated the other two, list all three.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv47%2Fboneaddict%2Fpermit.jpg&hash=d6aaaa1d502f7388bfef9082ee87b73c53bdd590)
-
Im a sucker for nice tall racks :chuckle: I would have to take a hard look at that one . Very nice pic
-
Buck #1- yes if it is a general unit and I have not been seing anything better while prescouting.
Buck #2- no
Buck #3- not the chilliwist/Methow tag, unless its the last day.

Same for me.... last buck looks like he could be better next year too!

Well since I passed on 2 bucks the same size as the 1st two yesterday in the Alta unit I guess my answer is no I wouldn't shoot them but it helps that I 've got the Multi tag in my pocket. On the 3rd pic it depends on the time frame. Early in the hunt I wouldn't kill it it's two spindly for me I like more girth. The pic could be deceiving though. But at crunch time different story. :hunter:
-
he has some decent forks but not much mass. Would also have to have a front view to see the width.
-
That last one is a close call, I dont know if I would pass or not. He might end up hanging on the wall :dunno:
-
:yeah:
-
I would shoot all three just because I probably wont have but a day or two to hunt deer this year.
-
nice respectful buck with good forks and mass. I would have see a width on him first before I made a good decision. Looks good though. nice picks bone.
-
Never killed a big muley...
all of em I would drop it likes it hot.
-
id shoot whatever one i saw first......
-
1st maybe, depends on how many days left, 2nd no, 3rd I'd need a better look but probably not. If I waited that long for a late season tag I wouldn't waste it on regular season :)
-
So many options.... :tung: i couldn't take buck 3 in modern firearm general season if i had a late season tag.... but i may be kicking myself after passing on him.
-
I'd shoot any one of them, but I haven't fired on a legal buck in 4 years. I've had it with the brush on the west side and I haven't hunted eastern Washington before, but this is the year! Heading out Thursday for Dayton. :IBCOOL:
-
The first two would be yes (not this year though) and no. The last would be tough as I currently have an Entiat late tag for archery. I haven't killed anything with my bow yet (this is my 3rd yr for deer) and that would be a great deer for my first with a bow. Having hunted Swakane though and seen some nice deer during the snowy late season, it would be hard to give up the chance at shooting something really nice. So my answer is.....I don't know right now, and probably won't until that moment. But I am really looking forward to finding out the answer during my week hunt at Thanksgiving!!!
This is actually something I keep playing in my head (and now I have a photo visual, thanks Bone) because I'd rather have a plan and stick with it, but the thrill of the moment is so hard to overcome.
Mike
-
Would pass on all three in the situation you gave. But probably tag the 3rd buck during Washington General, and again he might go down on the last day of the Late Hunt. I'm assuming he'll be about 24-25 wide and about 155 from that side view.
-
If I had like 5 days straight to hunt:
1st buck-----shoot
2nd buck-----pass
3rd buck-----pass
Otherwise I'd shoot them all if I was only hunting the weekend.
-
Still nope on all.
-
Yes to all three. I still havent killed enough bucks to be picky.
-
Definitely yes to the first two. I didn't get an elk this year and my freezer is nearly empty. On the third one my answer would be no if I had been putting in alot of time scouting the area and yes if I didn't put in the time to do the scouting. However I would be happy with all three, I'm jones'in for some garlic breakfast sausage, yum yum.
-
3rd one, Late season Tag, Archery gear, Arrow is flying!
-
Either weapon, any season, all three would have been in the freezer, without question.
-
I'm tippin' the first one over, passing on the second. I would pass on the 3rd since I have a desert tag this year.
-
I would take any of them and since this year I am taking my nephew out for his first go I would let him have first pick. I am more after the meat than the antlers.. ;)
-
I think my brain is not wired to the point of letting these pass. A lot of the hunt to me, is just that.....the hunt. If I spotted any of those animals, stalked with in range, and used the tools with in my knowledge base to out smart those bucks and get with in their kitchen for a kill shot....then its happening. I have the utmost respect for those who do pass, and yet still go out and get even a bigger or better buck....but until i draw that once in a life time trophy tag or put some hard earned cash down on an out of state trophy hunt....those are dead deer in Washington.
-
First Buck: I would count the tines as follows, "one...two...three...BANG!"
Second Buck:I would count the tines as follows, "one...two....three...(double check the third tine)....(double check agian)....BANG!
Third Buck: BANG!
-
Pass
-
Late season tag-special draw I might actually hold out. Good buck, but a hard to draw special tag, not that great.
-
all three NIGHT NIGHT....
"you are on the wall" for the first one! :IBCOOL:
-
I'm not going to lie to anybody. I'd wax all 3! :mgun:
-
all three would be in trouble late tag or not
-
I'm they are made out of meat, they are fair game by me.
-
sorry for the delay, my wireless was down. Here is a frontal on that guy for those that requested. I
don't know, I'd sure be tempted this year withthe tag I have and a longbow in my hand.

-
still pass
-
still pass
X2! He's a nice buck and I'd wax him on the general for SURE! But with a late tag in hand there's no way I'd shoot that... I'd kill myself knowing that I didn't get to hunt the muley rut when all the big boys come down... just wouldn't happen!
Michael
-
I suppose I have a pile of them that big with a bow, but I might still be tempted especially this year. Passion you might need to quote back to me my standards for this year......I think my fingers are getting ichy to release that string.
-
:chuckle: Thats funny i dont care who you are.
-
Something trashy :P
or
180+
I've heard some rumors of a old monarch in one of your hoods......6x5+ I believe the exact word was "ancient"
-
Damn I really like the dark antlers on this last one, thats a tough call.......time to dig out a quarter.
Sage
-
I'm alot pickier with a late tag or out of state than in this state general season...I would shoot the first two then weigh out the third depending on what I had been seeing, the weather etc... Public land in this state I have learned if it is legal you better shoot or the next guy will...there is not always another one over the hill.
-
You're just teasing Passion.
-
I have sheds from an ancient buck in there, but he has to be dead by now.......I'd sre dump an old one before anything else though. I love those old mossy clubs.
-
Your right the wolves probably ate him last week. I just can imagine him running very fast with a rack that big :chuckle:
-
He better learn to duck because within the next couple days, probably starting about Thursday as there are always guys out there early, there will be more orange on that mountain than on a ripe orange tree.
-
Rifle....no/no/no
Bow...yes/yes/yes
;)
:IBCOOL:
-
If I haven't filled my tag with a trophy blacktail and it was last couple of days of late season I would drop all 3, especially the third, I'm a sucker for those nice dark racks! And if it was entiat tag for the third it would be last day, also depending on the way the trip has gone (animal, people numbers)
-
OK, here is #4 for you all. Again, this is late permit in the Methow or Entiat. First hour of the first day of the hunt, any weapon.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv47%2Fboneaddict%2Fdougs08.jpg&hash=acb32a0b217e70ba7a89d082e0b3ef274eddc778)
-
I couldnt shoot him with a permit, hes not a perfect 4x4. No non-typical stuff for me this year :chuckle:
-
Tag filled.... I really like this buck, not alot of mass but hes got character.
Sage
-
tag him and bag him
-
For real , I would dump him , I think.
-
He's about what my general hunt buck looked like last year, first hour of the first day arrow slicing through his heart. I think I would take him. I would like a little more trash, but a bucks like this don't hang around every big tall pine.
He's dead withthe longbow, and maybe withthe rifle.
-
Who else here besides me loves the time of year that Bone and Pope start putting their pictures 3 o4 VERY long days befor season starts? :chuckle: :chuckle: Truly awesome picture Bone, I love the way hes stretched out and looking up and back.
Sage
-
I like 5 point he would hit the ground. :mgun2:
-
;)
1 1148 ENTIAT C SELECTED
2 1147 ENTIAT B Not Selected
3 1149 BIG BEND B Not Selected
4 1153 TEANAWAY D Not Selected
Well 1,2,3, I would leave them alone! 4th pic well I might try sneak up to him. If I was 30 yds I might wack him. If he saw me with in above 40 yds I would leave him.
Hope to find 25 to 30"wide!!!
Thank u for post a nice pics. Great pics! I am ready!!!
Mulehunter
-
1. take
2.pass
3.pass
4.take
any of these bucks would be decent in the 382 klickitat unit i hunt...nice photos!
-
That last buck would get dumped for me... :IBCOOL:
Michael
-
I would now pass on the third for sure. thanks for the frontal view bone. That will be a nice buck. the forth buck looks good I would kill him in his tracks I would love to kill a nice classy mule deer like that. I dont know how wide he is but if he is 24 he is dead. Love all the picks.
-
If I remember right, he was about 26. Thanks guys for the compliments and for playing the game.
-
Definitely would use my late tag on him!............maybe
I hope to have so many chances and opportunities.
-
I want to keep playin. thanks bone for sharing your portfolio it is always a pleasure looking at your picks.
-
I would shoot all for in a hart beat just becasue this year i cant really get out that much for modern deer season :( :(
-
I would take him with out a hesitation.
-
I would have to shoot all 3. Mostly cause I have never shot a deer.
-
Some people hunt to be out there in the woods. Some people hunt for antlers. Some people hunt for meat. I hunt for the total package, so that makes it real easy.
#1 - Yes
#2 - Yes
#3 - Yes
#4 - Oh hell YES!!!!
-
All 4 are already in the freezer :) 2 are on the wall :)
-
Well since I have yet to shoot anything bigger than a spike I have to say:
First buck: dead
Second buck: dead
As a matter of fact, any legal buck will be dead.
But, if I were drawn for a late tag I would much rather be able to hunt the special hunt than take home the biggest trophy, so I would not even take a gun with me if I went out for the general season with the family, I would pass on anything. (I also wouldn't be more then 10 yards away from someone with a gun and a tag at all times ;))
So:
Third buck: I just can't take a shot until the late hunt
Fourth buck: First day of the late season? He's dead, he's bigger than any buck I've ever seen during a valid hunting season (when I have a deer tag) so he would definitely be dead. Plus I just love 5 points.
-
I'd probally take anyone of them especially if the hunt was right. i shot a small 3pt on the highhunt last year just because of the way things unfolded. spotted him from a distance, threw a stalk on him. got to a rocky outcropping took a nice rest and checked him out for a while. the sun was shining, birds singin, POW, damn now I'm pack in. a spike killed in a true hunting fashion means as much as a bigger buck killed from the road. i don't mind pack in, cause it's still part of the hunt.
-
Yes to all four.
But I'd probably be a little disappointed with the second, although he's a good young buck.
The other three are going straight on the wall.
That's IF I could hit them, though. :bash:
-
Seeing how I ma still looking for my first archery harvest, I would stick all of them with out hesitation. They are great looking bucks and I wouldn't ashamed to brag about them either.
-
Thanks for all the pics, and I say in wa state yes to all four
