Details of the contest:
Here's the contest......$20 to enter for ALL of your Non-resident/out of state hunts(one fee covers all hunts). All monies can be either directly paypal'd to me at massivemuleys@aol.com or mail me a check. Some funds will be lost to fees if paypal is used, not much but some. PM me with your interest and I will get that payment information/mailing address to you. I will collect the funds and then we will decide how we will proceed with the monies towards the kids. It has been mentioned college fund, hunting fund, etc. or maybe they just need a trip or whatever. I will be in contact with Aarons brother who is also a member on this forum. We will sort out what we feel is the best way to handle this. Those that enter will be listed in this sticky thread . Currently there is no prize for winning the contest, but we are working on something. Right now its just to help someone, and some bragging rights. There is a travelling trophy that I will get engraved for the winner and you will be able to hang it in your home for approximately a year.
I want to emphasis that the contest is for out of state animals only. ( this was created to avoid the hassles of the WDFW). MANY folks contribute without actually hunting out of state.
-The contest will begin with the up and coming seasons 2013 license year. The contest will end midnite Dec 31st. Some seasons will not have run yet or may still be open, but the contest is over at this time.
-Any animal recognized and measured by Pope and Young or Boone and Crocket will be eligible. No Washington animals will be accepted for this contest, even if it meets the non residency requirements.
-The animals scores will be compared to the world record of each animal for each method of collection and for each category nontyp/typical etc. The score will be turned into a ratio and the one closest to the New world record, or the one that beats the new world record by the largest score. WINS
-Anyone that is hunting a Non-resident hunt is eligible. That means if you are from Montana and hunting Idaho, you are eligible. If you are from Texas and hunting Colorado, you are eligible. If you are from Washington, the animal must be from out of state. Washington state hunters that are interested in donating but are not going out of state can "join" the contest or donate to the cause.
Entrys will be judged on the honor system by the Boone and Crockett club or Popes, scoring system. These MUST be fairchase hunts as outlined by those scoring systems.
Similar to the Washington contest, I would like a committee of judges to be formed. These judges are eligible for the contest. They reserve the right to reject a trophy if an issue arrives or have it measured by another party or request that the trophy be officially measured. (Where's the lawyer, this is a pain to write) If one of the committee members trophies is in the top ten, then they will be replaced with another member to take their spot on the committee. The committee reserves the right to adjust or add rules during the contest if needed. The committee is currently the members who are administrators of this site. This may change as time progresses. I was going to put a deadline on when your funds needed to be in for the contest, but since this is an honor system, at this time I would like to keep the contest open for more applicants if possible as this is a fund raiser. PLEASE have your funds in prior to hunting. You must have your application in before harvesting in order for the animal to be eligible for entry into the contest.
It would be cool if you do donate, to put a comment from yourself indicating who you are (screen name) and that you are from this site, so that we might know where the generosity is coming from and we are sure to get your entry posted.

History of the contest for those who may not know. The contest was originally brought about for a young man struggling for his life with cancer. His name was Joshua Holm. Lots of funds were raised through this contest and from auctions that we had on this site. We continued the contest the next year for a young man who lost his leg in a horrible accident. The following year, we helped support a young man who was shooting for TEAM USA over at nationals. We took some time off for the contest until this horrific event happened and Colockumelk was taken from us leaving his wife and kids, ages 4 and 2 behind. I cant think of a more fitting charity then these folks. I am hoping that members from this site ban together and help support them. Items are already being donated and we will be running auctions and so forth shortly.

Its a good thing I have an office. Yesterday it was tears of grief and today its something different. Proud to know so many good people.

I really don't have words for how I feel. By happen chance I had one interaction with Aaron via pm. He sent an extremely long PM to me by accident (4/10/13). I replied with humor and advised he sent his pm to the wrong member. He replied and then said,
"Oops your right. Thanks for letting me know. Could you send that message back to me so I can send it to the right guy. That took forever typing that out on my phone
Aaron."
I highlighted the best part.
When I heard the news, it was like I lost a good friend. I am not sure why I feel that way other than the fact that an amazing man gave all for a great Country.
I too have wiped tears from my face. I have read every post on this topic (having to take many breaks) and am amazed by the generosity and heart felt comments. This is truly a hunting community / forum. We all share the same strong fundamental beliefs and values as it pertains to god, family and country.

A Paypal donation only has been sent for the family in memory of my own son Nic. My ex-Marine son Nic Taylor died 2 yrs ago of cancer at age 35 leaving an 8 yr old daughter and a 5 yr old son. Nic would have loved Aaron who sounds exactly like him.

A guide I know gets $225 per day per person. I can take two people for two days so I would think it values at about $900.

every time I read through these posts I get all welled up and foggy eyed . the way the members have stepped up is unreal. It just takes the time to give to make a differance the amounts arn't the importance , we all drink coffee or try a new fishing lure or bullet each year , how hard would it for everyone to kick in just a few bucks , what ever spare change we have in the cup holder will add up to help a grieving familly and mother raising two young children . Amen Coach. I was "talking" to one of us on here yesterday about just this. I was thinking of a song by Chris Ledoux. Not sure how appropriate the lyrics are for this case, but the song was working mans dollar. To me this symbolizes just that. The dollar is very important to most of us, hard earned, and yet these men and women are willing to put it in the cup. Every dollar is just as important as the other, and just as much appreciated. It becomes even more substantial when its for a member that gave all.
All one has to do that is holding back is look into the eyes of their own kids....or their own spouse and put them into the situation that Aaron's family is going through. I know that is what I did, and even though I have tried to help, I don't really think it will ever feel like enough.....especially for someone that gave everything for my family.

So I don't know if this is the best place to post it . As I look into my gear closset I see way too much stuff that has been provided to me . I have a limbsaver dz 30 thats set up at 30 inches and 70 lbs rh . I will donate it to a service member thats looking to get into archery ! it will come with arrows and a release , all used but in very good shape . anyone that wants to make a small donation to the cup in responce is appriciated . I figured I could auction it , but then thaught I rather see a service member use it in his brothers name . the draw length is easy to adjust on these bows and it's tuned ready for use . The only catch is I wanna see pic of your harvest !looking to get a guy set up here bump.

Sounds like an awesome year of hunting. The critter was supposed to be entered by December 31st to qualify. It was only compared to the BC or Pope records. It didn't necessarily have to be a record.
Thanks, I had a ton of fun in 2013 and got to hunt a bunch with family and friends. I've shot nicer animals(B&C wise)in past years but I'm not sure Ive ever enjoyed a season more as I got to help a lot of other people fullfill dreams . I didn't know captain Blanchard but he is a true hero and appears to have been a great sportsman as well.
