Well I was lucky enough to have some fresh oysters tonight. Neighbor dropped off 6 dozen..SCORE.... With the weather being so nice I was going to burn a few dogs on the grill but that all changed. butter, garlic, Parmesan cheese= yummy
-
Nice!!! Every time we go razor clamming we stop off @ oysterville and pick up a few dz. Cooked the same way
-
Those look YUM-O!! I suck at shucking oysters... Any tips?
-
BE DAMN CAREFUL, and use a shucking knife with more angle towards the shell with it going away from you and pry more while your pushing it in
-
I usually cook them on low on the BBQ until they open themselves, much easier to shuck that way, wear a shucking or leather glove on left hand, pry open, drain liquid, put your sauce and cheese on until melted and cooked.
Add a touch of Tapatio hot sauce once that cheese melts, YUM is right!
-
:yeah:. That's how I open mine as well. Let the heat do the work.
-
I always shuck mine first and take the oyster out and thoroughly rinse the oyster and shell. Much nicer to shoot them with no worries of bits of shell or sand. :twocents:
-
Bam! Nice, man.

No need to shuck when grilling. They pop open when cooked!

Gotta get a lil sand in it to make a pearl! :twocents:
-
my bud & i would always through a few on the grill, open & pour in beer to stew. shuck a few & throw them in a small pot with salsa to warm up.
all others were shucked & slithered down the thought as they were intended.
i like your idea kisfish, sounds good & if i ever get a good batch of freshies i will try that.

Easy tip and it works for me, shucking knife and pliers.
Hold the oyster flat side up, take the pliers and about the 2o'clock postion on the shell (where you force the shucking knife in) break off a little shell, the opening will be exposed and then use the knife to open it up, easy peasy and no stab wounds in your hands... :chuckle:

I've opened hundreds of dozens of oysters and never done this. I'm going to try it. Thanks Buckmark.

also the little bits of shell from shucking them & downing them raw helps with digestion. & don't forget the benefits of the juice you get from fresh raw oysters.
had a "old" oriental gentleman tell me in front of my galfriend (now wife) in front of her mother & father that raw oysters would "put lead in pencil" for spite i ate allot of them in front of her parents.
