We've all been waiting to lay eyes on this buck, rumored to be a new world record. Not to take the wind out of your sails, but he's no world record. But he is the buck of a lifetime for anyone who knows how difficult it can be to tag a mature Columbian Blacktail. Not only is Kevin's deer a mature specimen, he scores pretty well as a Non Typical. Kevin harvested this deer on 9-7-08 in SW WA. The best part was his 9 year old son was with him, and even helped his dad close the deal. He gave me permission to share his success with Hunting-Washington.com.
Here's a summary of some stats on this buck:
Scorable Points
Left = 10
Right = 12
Inside spread = 20 3/8"
Outside spread = 23 4/8"
Non Typical inches = 23 0/8"
Totals
Spread Credit = 20 3/8"
Left antler = 61 4/8"
Right antler = 66 7/8"
Subtotal = 148 6/8"
Deductions = 12 1/8"
add non-typ = 23 0/8"
Final Score = 159 5/8"

Nice! Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks for getting these up here. Tell your buddy congratulations on a truly awesome buck!
-
ditto. Good write up.
-
Very nice.
I've also got a big SW Wa Columbian Blacktail to my name, and I'm very interested to know where you got it? ;)
I understand the desire for discreetness, but would asking for the unit name be too much? :P
A dandy buck, nevertheless. Congrats.
-
THAT THING IS SWEET!!!
-
That's a sweet buck.
-
Holy crapper! Buck of a lifetime.....especially in these parts. Tell your bud congrats.
-
Great buck...great pics...thanks for sharing!
-
Very Nice Buck. Nice to see some blacktails showing up on here. Hope to see a bunch more after the weekend!!!
-

-
nice buck.
-
great buck so cool your kid was with ya
-
Guys, I didn't kill this buck. Just posting it for Kevin Anderson of Lacey, WA.
-
That thing is a Hoss. Awesome looking deer. Your buddy has a once in a lifetime memory with his son.
-
I love the narley bases, and the no nonsense write up was nice as well. Not that I don't love the stories ,but a straight forward score sheet makes every thing a little easier to digest. Thanks
-
Thanks for posting!!
-
Kevin, if you get on this site thanks for letting bow4elk post the pics. That is a great buck, congrats!
-
Nice! Kevin didn't happen to work at the brewery did he?
-
Great buck, one of the best blacktails I've seen.
-
Kevin said he "doesn't do computers" so I'm guessing he isn't going to be visiting anytime soon. I keep in touch with him via phone and will be scoring two more big racks of his very soon. 2006 and 2007 bucks. Haven't seen them but he said they are both "nice". I'm just going to go ahead and take his word on that!
-
thanks for showin us that awsome buck!
im gettin hyped up for this weekend! :whoo:
-
Knarly!!!
-
sweet buck
-
Thanks for posting that. Congrats to the hunter. I was lucky enough to get my hands on it the other day. What a great buck!
-
Oh my!!!! :yike:
-
Awesome blacktail! Gotta love all the character on that buck. A definite dream buck! Tell him congrats!
-
What a great buck congrats! I notice the cape is cut way up the chest and the skull is capped ... He's not mounting his buck?, did I miss something? :dunno:
-
I notice the cape is cut way up the chest and the skull is capped ... He's not mounting his buck?, did I miss something? :dunno:
I was just noticing the same thing, at the very least the cape was worth trade money. Another thing, if he is interested in the final score, he should have left the head whole until dry, the cap will curl much more when cut off like that, loosing width. :twocents:
-
the cap will curl much more when cut off like that, loosing width.
Probably about an inch on a deer of that size ... maybe more???
-
I have had an encounter with a large blacktail but nothing like this one.
nice work.
these are pics from separate years on my parents property, all the same buck.
he grew nicely and then some coward poached him out of my parents front yard.
WE CAUGHT HIM!..... >:(

Those are great pics BB, too bad it ended like that though.
-
Poachers are the scum of the earth. I was over at Bucklucky's place last Sunday when a truck drove by, slowed down, then put a shotgun out the window and touched off a shot, apparently at a pheasant in the ditch. Morons :bash:
On a positive note, it's neat to see the age progression with that buck. He clearly is the same buck based on that left front fork as a 3 pt. Too bad some joker had to put his ego in front of common sense.
-
Yeah i hate poachers.......we watched this big ol boy grow up from a fawn....i actually got him to eat out of my hand on a couple of occasions.(shhhh dont tell anyone) lol I never had any intentions of havesting this big boy, plus i was busy trying to keep the local yahh hoos from sneakin around my parents property to take him. we were really sad when they shot him. he was like a pet and his name was henry.
here are a couple more pics.
REPORT POACHERS!!!!
It will help...
ps. its funny that you saw some guy shootin at pheasants, cause the kid that we caught was also booked in cle elum for poaching pheasants out his window.
what an ass!

Sorry i didnt mean to :jacked:
-
:yike: great NT buck. i would have life size that toad
-
Hey Tom, I cought 3 kids doing a drive by right in front of my house again. They shot 2 pheasants jumped out and grabbed one and had the other in his hand. I scared the crap out of them, they dropped one of the birds that was still alive and stalled the 4 runner. Wasnt able to catch them though. I know the rig and see it all the time.
That buck needs to be mounted. I have some big capes I have been saving for those big racks I have collected. I think one of them needs to go on that buck :chuckle: That thing is a HOG!
-
Wow...that is a pig and yeah...I'd have life sized him or at least pedestal mounted him like half body with habitat!
That is a rare buck indeed...in 27 years of spending hundreds of days a year in the field in W. Wash I've never seen a buck anywhere near that. I've seen plenty (maybe 20) or so like BB's pic...and bigger...but nothing like that TOAD!
I doubt a Washington buck will ever pass the WR from Lewis county. Does anyone know how far into W. Wash the WR was taken? As big as he is.... I'd have to suspect he may have crossed the divided as a muley/muley hybrid....????
I LOVE it that CA isn't passing up that Lewis county buck!!!
Ernie
-
There is a bigger typical that was scored a few years ago at 183 5/8 net, beating the lewis county buck bt 1 3/8. It was shot in clark county if I remember right in 1954 by Cliff Richter.
-
Very nice buck, looks like one I've seen down close to this one river... It's a dandy!
Keith
-
Dang....I didn't know that. Sweet!
-
Awsome Blacktail!!!!!!
-
That is one awsome Blacktail I would love to see one like that someday. ;)
Backwoods, its too bad that buck was poached >:(. he looks like he could have had a lot of potential to be a real nice one. But he was still a nice buck.
-
yeah but justice was served!
the kid is a poor excuse for a human being and will never touch a gun or hunt ever again. i even think he is serving a little time for his multiple poaching crimes. dont quote me on that but i think so.
>:(

The buck you are referring to was taken west of I-5.
-
I thought everyone knew where it was taken :chuckle:
-
Some additional pics with the skull hide removed. Enjoy
-
 That thing has a wicked base. Awesome animal.

You are correct, that was the work of my grandfather in 1954. Clifford Richter. Please everyone take a moment of silence and say prayers for a great man. He just passed away this morning at 3:30am. May this record not be his only memory if any of you knew him.
God bless and happy hunting to everyone.
