Got this guy last night around 6:30. Walking an old logging road at the bottom of a cut by a creek. Rounded a corner and he was 50 in front of he head down feeding away. Got broadside and let the 270 wsm sing. First shot he hunched up and spun a 180 and the second shot dropped him before he took another step. Very happy times

Looks like a little tike in the last picture. Really nice coat and had a half Y on his chest in white.

Only had to pack him around 400 yards to the truck but it was a flat grade which was a nice change of pace for getting a bear out of the woods.

Thanks guys!!!! Definitely had an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and happiness flood over me after he went down.

That bear's coat is absolutely beautiful. All the bears I've been seeing in the NE are pretty raggedy looking. What elevation were you, around 4000 ft?
Also, thanks for saving my NE corner fawns ;)

I'd say around 2500 ft elevation. No problem on the fawns.

We figured around 250 to 275. His head doesn't fit his body that well.
-
My boar from a few years ago was the same way. Long winters up there, they drop a lot of weight while in there dens! I bet he was pushing 400 lbs when he denned up last fall.

Yeah he was big for sure. I tried to keep a low guess because I know how deceiving bears are with weight.
-

They are a sweet gun! Then again I love anything sako lol.
What bullet you shooting? I run the 140g accubond in mine.
-
Same bullet. 140 grain accubond. Really did a number to this bears insides. Don't think I'll shoot any different bullets after that.

Strong work

They are amazing I have taken 30+ big game animals with accubonds and they have never let me down. If I remember right 9 of them have been with my A7 and the 140g accubond. I run them in a lot of my guns. They shoot great and they sure dump a lot of energy into the animals. The only thing is they do tend to blood shot a lot of meat if you hit really solid stuff like a shoulder.
-
Oh yeah that's for sure. Lost most of both shoulders on the bear. But he didn't run away. Good with me.
-
Huge bear and beautiful coat! Can't wait til August. You're a lot braver than I am, bear hunting and posing beside a dead bear with a black shirt on. I wear camo but as soon as the animal is down I pull out the blaze orange hat and flags. Don't mean to preach but it's not fun getting shot at and you've got a long life ahead of you. Let us know the size of the head on that beast as I'd say he makes book. Congratulations!
-
I know what your saying. Thanks for looking out. I always try to never wear black when bear hunting but I had just came from work and it was all I had. I'll be sure to let everyone know the size.
