I missed the whole early season due to Army training. But I'll be hitting hard in the late season.
Title: My son's 2008 Muzzleloader Buck
Post by: MLCoug on October 12, 2008, 05:12:31 PM
Well, he said he was going to hold out for a big one.  But this one jumped up right under him.  He saw the forks and the eyeguard....the rest is history.  He says he can now focus on waterfowl.  I'm proud of him.  He's 16-years-old and has now taken 6 bucks.  First 3 were with a rifle and the last three with his muzzleloader.  I passed on a nice heavy 3x3 but will now focus on the late season chasing whitetails....
We were hunting the Wahluke unit GMU 278.  You'll have to wait until November to see my buck photos....

My first "Front Stuffer" hunt with a group of 8 friends in Selah (GMU 342).  We ended up with two spikes and one cow.  We're hooked!

Our group hunted 342 and I got a young cow to fill my tag.  We were in Camp Sidelock down by the feed station.  I am Bubba on the right.

Bubba- We went by your camp numerous times, liked the sign you guys had in front of the trailer (Camp Sidelock), very cool.  We got the spike & cow on Monday up there.   We'll see you guys up there next year.  Congrats, BubbaD

Thanks BubbaD, glad to here you had a good time.  I talked to you that day, good to here that you got the smoke pole fever.  I will be going with a few of our guys to GMU 130 in November for the late hunt to see if they can fill their tags.  And I will be going to Montana for a buffalo hunt in December with the smoke pole.  Well again good luck and we will see you next year.

Bubba

The Roosevelts do get darker in color than the rockies, its all in what they rub.  The ones that rub on hemlock get real dark like this and the ones that rub on alder are kinda red brown colored.

Not a 3200 bull, but he was half RTOC and half GHC....that timber is to big for RTOC....so you know where he died.

I shot this buck on the fourth day of the early season...before school. Saw eleven bucks the first day (three legal) and 4 the next day (one legal). I blew the stalk on two bucks the first two days. Thats hunting the sage though. I watched this buck bed with three does, crawled for 200 yards till I was within 50 of him. He stood up...my back safety wasn't off. Luckily he stood long enough for me to unscrew it and shoot him. The Ellensburg wind I think played into all that. He only went 20 yards and died before I could reload. I had to call my grammar professor to tell him I wasn't gonna make the test for the weirdest reason he had ever heard of. He is a 3x2 plus an eyeguard on the 3pt side. No monster, but meat for college.

this was my first buck ever and second deer ever.  i got this on the 26th, it ended up being around 200 yards, shot it right under the ear, and dropped it where it stood

On sunday my brother and I for the 1st time both got a deer on the same day.  He got a nice 2pt at about 7:15 am and I got a nice doe at about 12:30 pm.  It was a brown its down sunday, we wanted to take care of our deer tags, so we could get working on our elk tags.  These were our 1st deer with our muzzle loaders.
