Tikka T3 lite in 30-06
I was going to get the stainless, but meh. I'll paint this one anyhow.

Looks like I'm narrowing it down to a Leupold VX-3 in 3.5x10 x50mm w/CDS
ZIESS Conquest 4.5-14x50 A0 MC with target turrets

got 44mm scope on now with the stock tikka supplied rings (low) so pretty sure I can get burris medium high rings on with a 50mm sitting on top of an EGW rail.
It'll make a good combo for under (edit) over $1000 :chuckle:

I kinda lost faith in my old 30-06, used to kill everything with it and never missed or lost an animal with it (still haven't)
Plus it's heavy and got a wood stock I try not to bang up and the barrel is too long and too easy to mar up with it's blued nickel finish.
-
Nice rig, probably kill everything you shoot at, I would be darn happy to have it.
-
Nice!
-
Nice!
we need to shoot the hell out of it :chuckle:
-
You'll like those mounts.
-
awesome! Tikka's are amazing!
-
300wsm ?????? why not .
-
It will do you good

300wsm ?????? why not .
different tool.
30-06 is a boring old round I know - but it's a great round that's starting to kinda "come back" if you will.
brass availability
they don't burn gobs of powder
huge bullet choice
find factory ammo at any store that sells ammo
good ballistics
enough gun for Elk @ 500 yards or 'lope out further yet
I don't mind being a bit boring :chuckle:
-
There pretty tough to beat for the money. I've killed muleys and elk with
the same exact gun and have no complaints.
-
It will do the job. A proven round and a great gun.
-
Nice set up, it'll work.
-
I'm thinking of picking up a left hand stainless t3 in 3006 for my son's 1st gun. Hard to beat the 06.
-
Great round and probably the best gun for the money I love my tikka. and good choice on optics Vortex has great glass.
-
i luv my tikka 243 but when i went muzzy my granddaughter snagged it. wish tikka made muzzys. why did they not make them in the 50's and 60's? mike w

www.opticsplanet.com (http://www.opticsplanet.com) pissed me off - ordered a vortex and mount from them then got an email saying it'd be 7 weeks :yike:
So now I'm looking for a different scope >:(
got an old trophy ridge junker on it now :chuckle:
-
7 weeks isn't long, you will have plenty of time at the range before hunting season. ElkNut was great in helping me with my Vortex binocular purchase, maybe he can save you a few bucks and get it sooner. The Vortex seemed to be a good match for the Tikka, patience is a virtue and most times it pays off.
If you want to step up and go big and buy a scope you will never regret by a Leupold VX6 with CDS, mount a rail on that Tikka and other rifles and get custom dials made for each, Leupold makes some quick detach options that makes it easy to use one great scope for multiple rifles, in the long run you will have great glass and spend less.
-
Sweet
-
I probably over scoped it :chuckle:
-
I have a vx3 Lr 6.5-20x40 on one of mine :chuckle: Never hurts to run good glass.
-
I'm prolly going to go with burris XTR rings and weaver bases. I want a pictanny top so I can put on a nightfire or other light.
farmer wanting me to kill some yotes, but he's got them so trained I think night shooting is going to be the ticket.
-
With that scope you can't miss, best bang for your buck IMHO.
-
ya - I'm a little leery of the 4.5 power but I figure with the 50mm objective at least I'll still have a decent FOV.
It was the smallest one they had with target turrets.
-
I have that gun in 30-06, nice, light, for the most part very accurate (having some accuracy trouble lately but usually is a sub moa gun.)
-
whats your favorite factory ammo for it?
I want this gun to eat factory loads for out of state hunting, hoping it's good with Remington core lokt 180gr out to 300 yards but also hoping maybe I can punch that out a ways with hornady superformance 165gr.
This gun won't see handloads. Idea is to ship it to myself then grab a box of ammo off the shelf somewhere.
-
finally got it all put together and ran a few down the tube.
I sure like that glass, at 300 yards with shoot n see targets you can clearly see where you hit. Nice and crisp.
I ran some old remington core lokt 150 to walk in the scope - shoot, clean, shoot, clean shoot and clean some more. I zero'd it at 75 yards. I don't have my range setup so was just shooting the bank and 75 yards was all I could get at that spot :chuckle:
Then I set up a 300 yard target.
was zero'd at 75 so held the top of the paper - and hit 1 inch low.
Well shooting from a rickety old picnic table the gun was pulling 3" groups @ 300 with winchester silvertip 180gr. The gun will run better but I just couldn't keep it still. Haven't had a chance to run much else through it yet but I think I'm gonna like it.
I'll dig out the bags and really see what it'll do.

Hornafy super performance is tough to beat . I 'd go with the 165 sst's

That is my plan, just need to pick some up
