Title: My first elk shed
Post by: lablover on May 14, 2013, 07:44:55 PM
Found my first elk shed this year. Helped some friends with spring bear and found this guy near a tree in a steep rock shoot. Spotted it from over a mile away. For all the hunting i do I'm not one for going shed hunting so I love that I found one. Guesses on score? I'll tell ya that it has a 51 2/8" main beam!

After locating it I searched and searched for the other side. I'm sure that someone else has picked it up since we were in a high traffic area.

I went to pick one up last week and it was gone. I'm positive that is it from the atl pic and the second pic made me positive. Ha

Awesome shed. Good find with the spotter. How far away were you when you spotted it?

I'm guessing a little over a mile away. I was able to go back to the vehicle and then drive to the top of the drainage it was in. 30 minute round trip and I had it back at the vehicle. It was only 300 yards below the road.

Too much snow and it was a Hell hike up the canyon to get it. The road is close at the top but u couldn't drive it when i was there. Remember he was bear hunting no snow. Shed hunting there's alot of snow. Most the time.

I wouldn't think of you as a guy that's scared of a hike. Especially when there's that nice of a shed that you know is there....

In the picture it looks like the antler laying on the ground is the right side of a set. But you're holding the left...?

The way it looks through the spotter is deceiving. I thought it was the right side as well. This is how it looked when I walked up on it.
