Title: Wireless fence options?
Post by: pendoreilleadventures on May 18, 2013, 10:46:37 PM: Anyone have one the prefer? What are pros and cons for the one you own? If you could buy a different one what would it be and why? I have two labs a 45 pound female and an 80 pound male?

Post by: jechicdr on May 19, 2013, 09:58:50 PM: Largest market share is likely the PetSafe brand. I have the one that you turn up the radius. Works well for a round boundary. My yard is long and narrow, so not the best choice, but it was the only thing that was out there at the time I needed to buy it. They are coming out with a programmable boundary but runs about 600$. I'll probably make that investment when it comes out.

Post by: MadMooner on May 21, 2013, 02:53:06 PM: I got a Petsafe unit and after burying the fuggin' wire the unit did not work. Went through the trouble shooting guide and called the help line. Turned out it was a faulty unit.

Sent it back and ripped up the wire.

Went old school and put up a cable run.

We actually have a whole kit we may be able to sell you, Has about 500 yards of wire to put in the ground to make your "fence" and It comes with the shock coller and all the accessories. If your interested shoot me a PM and well try to dig it all out tonight. Its brand new never been used. Just never had the time to install.

My lab, who hates anything electric, is bomb proof on a radio fence. My daughter's Riesenschnauzer and son's walker just consider that jolt the price of doing business and blow through it like cold fog. One "yip" and I'm FREE!!!

Systems that use buried wires are very prone to getting chewed in half by ground dwelling rodents. Nothing more frustrating than to get a system up and running only to have a break somewhere in 500' of buried wire. :bash:

The cons that kept me from getting a dog was that it doesn't keep other dogs out of the yard or someone from stealing your dog. Still have to have a fenced yard or kennel for those reasons. Sounds like these products work great if you want your dog to stay out of garden areas or boarder the fence line so your dog doesn't dig or jump out.

We have the "invisible fence"......... (brand name)
As long as I keep the batteries fresh, we have never had a problem. Honestly she wears her collar less than 50% of the time and just knows the boundries. Not sure if all dogs will maintain their training, but she has. :IBCOOL:

Post by: littlemac on June 12, 2013, 11:07:35 PM: Invisible fence on an acre and a quarter. Two boxers (65 lbs) in the woods with elk, deer, coyotes...you name it. We've had three boxers on it and they will come train a new dog when you get one.

Never had an issue where they left the yard. They'll get to the fence line and hold even when tempted by wildlife.

The trainers do a lot of tempting. Our male wouldn't leave the porch the day the truck with the dog on the side pulled up to train our new dog, good memory since it had been about four years since he was trained. Amazing he remembered the van.

They bury it, train the dog and will make three training visits, also retrain if needed. It was worth it to us. We had done a DIY previously, this was better with the training.
